Cryptology is basically the science of secret messages that underlies cryptography and more glamorous cryptanalysis; refers to the numerous ways of hiding or breaking information in storage and transit, thus enables users to transmit information securely over the insecure channel. This paper quantitatively analyzes the scholarly publications of cryptology research over a decade-long period from 2001 to 2010. It provides an insight to the cognitive structure and scientific behavior of cryptology research; thus suggests an innovative way of connecting various aspects for governing and administering a cryptology centre. The study examines the growth-trend of publications, extent of collaboration, focused areas of research based on scientometric techniques and related indices. The productive-authors, potential-collaborators, predominant-institutions, prolific-countries, and prevalent topics of cryptology research have been identified using fractional counting method. Critical analyzes have also been made to determine the activity-index (performance indicator), collaboration index, degree-of-collaboration, and collaboration density. Empirical validation of Lotka's law is tested and the value of a (productivity parameter) is carried out. It also derfi-onstrates on highly cited materials and identifies the core journals to be earmarked for library collection of a cryptology research centre. Therefore, the study reveals a lot of useful infcirmation to develop strategies for enabling better administration in this emerging field of research.

An algorithm represents the computer-based road map for accomplishing a given, well-defined task. In general, computer algorithms form one of the core practical technologies of computer science. In principle, research in theoretical computer science focuses on the design and analysis of algorithms and data structures, as well as the study of fundamental barriers to efficient computation. The research community of this field has been significantly growing in the last decade. In general, in the computer science field, disseminating research outcomes is an integral part of a scholar's professional career. The preference for conference publications is motivated by many arguments such as the high dynamism of the field requiring shorter turnaround time between submission; the prestige associated with publishing at highly-selective venues. We analyze the publications of three top-tier computer algo-rithms research conferences (SODA, ICALP and SOCG) over the last two decades (1995 - 2014). In particular, we report the list of the scholars who have the highest number of publications for each venue separately and when combined. We also analyze the co-authors relationships to understand their research collaborations. Finally, we study the increase in the number of publications and the size of the research community in the last two decades.

Computer Systems provide the foundation upon which all other software applications rely. The goal of systems research is to develop the key abstractions and services that enable software to be efficiently and portably run on hardware, as well as to elicit the principles underlying the development and use of complex, parallel and distributed software/ hardware systems. In this article, we study the com- munity of the computer systems research community by analyzing the research publications and the program committee memberships of three top-tier and prestigious computer systems conferences (EuroSys, SOSP and OSDI) over the period between 2006 and 2014. We study the growth in the size of research publications, research community and the program committees of the three studied conferences over the period between 2006 and 2014. We highlight the main scholars participating in the program committees of these venues. We also analyze the affiliation of program committee members to determine the main countries and institutions contributing to the computer systems area. Further, we show our results on the scholars with the highest number of participation on each of the studied conferences and when combined. Finally, we analyze the co-authorship network to highlight some of the important research collaboration patterns in this community.

Discussed in details the chronological development of Bengali LIS concepts in fifty years. An effort has been taken to study the development of LIS concepts in the course of time to find out their frequency of occurrence as well as if there are any social factors behind the occurrence of these concepts. For this, first fifty volumes of Bengali LIS periodical 'Granthagar' have been studied thoroughly from where different Bengali LIS terminologies have been recorded for consideration. These collected terms have been grouped under 67 broad categories and then studied under ten different sections where each section covers issues of 'Granthagar' published within every five year. After this indepth study it has been revealed that frequently occurred concepts have been chosen as the themes of following Bengal Library Conference under the social demand and the most striking feautre is that there has been a total paradigm shift of discussion of LIS concepts from traditional concepts such as library act, cataloguing, classification, etc. to information, information science and library modernization.

Reference Publication Year Spectroscopy (RPYS) was proposed by Marx, Bornmann, Barth, and Leydesdorff (2014, [18]) to identify seminal publications in a research field which are most important in a historical context. We refined our RPYS toolbox by adding some features to the existing programs and we developed two new routines. First, a direct comparison of the results of different RPYSs is now possible, because the software transforms the results of the RPYS into percen-tiles for standardization. Second, we added routines that facilitate the user with retrieving the most-cited publications in specific years indicated by peaks in the spectrograms. Cited references can be aggregated across misspellings and variants. For this paper, two examples from trfe humanities and natural sciences are provided to demonstrate the functionalities and results of the programs. A more technical description of the usage of the programs can be found at http://www.leydesdorff.net/ software/rpys/.

In the present era information filtering is a major challenge for Libraries and Information Centers. With the Hooding of Information in the web; searching to multiple journals and finding relevent papers from the heap of garbage papers is a major issue for researchers. A model is developed to provide information service based on artificial intelligence. This system would be capable to filter papers from multiple databases/ journals on the basis of relevancy priority. The model is based on neural network which is a part of Artificial Intelligence. The way human brain learns and stores information in several neurons, same method is adopted in this model. In this system key words with their corresponding document links and priority number would continuously be sorted in a logical table and stored to keep system uptodate. For this sorting process the model has been sharing the knowledge of human brains. First the Expert system is trained, after that the system has become smart enough to provide service to the user. It has been found that the model is providing better information filtering mechanism to the researcher of specific subject area. But learning of the system will be lifelong process. Experience will improve its intelligence gradually with time.

Curr Sci 2016, 110(9), 1823-8.
Scientometric analysis of research outputs is important in universities for research evaluation as it provides necessary inputs for decision makers. Common scientometric indicators are the number of publications, average citation per document, A-index and the number of authors. F-index is also an indicator considering both the quantity and quality of scientific products, based on first author and corresponding author publications. This study aims at determining these indicators in first-grade universities of medical sciences in Iran and investigating the correlation among F-index and other mentioned indices, and comparison between F-index and A-index. The population under study comprised of all scientific productions of fourteen top universities of medical sciences in Iran, indexed in Web of Science in 2012 (7435 documents). The Tehran University of Medical Sciences is ranked first considering five indicators under investigation. A significant positive relationship was obtained among F-index with the number of publications, the number of authors, and /i-index. This indicates that F-index can be a potential proper index, for qualitative and quantitative evaluation of universities along with other scientific and research institutions.

The development of science and technology (S&T) in India is widely believed to have not quite lived up to the high expectations in the Scientific Policy Resolution of 1958. To paraphrase a major scientist, it has had tall peaks towering over some much more modest achievements. This article traces some of these shortcomings to the divergence between the direction which the S&T policies have advocated and the socio-economic road the country has taken. Based on an analysis of this divergence, the article argues for a new Science and Technology Policy based on a much broader conception of technology.

Independent research of a country may be defined as research conducted solely by researchers affiliated with institutions of that specific country with no external collaborators. In fact, it represents the 'core' research a country is able to carry out without any foreign help. Therefore, studying a country's independent research may give a more genuine picture of the country's research capacities. In this study, we analyse and compare the independent research of the Czech Republic and Slovakia, two countries that emerged after the dissolution of Czechoslovakia in 1993, based on journal articles published between 2001 and 2013, and indexed in the Science Citation Index Expanded. We concentrate on the production of scholarly publications, research topics and journals, institutions, and citations of Czech and Slovak 'articles. We conclude that although Czech and Slovak independent research have some common features, they differ largely in some aspects such as article topics and citation impact.

Indicators are constructed from research publications to capture the dynamics of research. The rationality of this approach is discussed. The study also shows that publications are increasing exponentially underscoring the intensive research undertaken globally. Determinants of publication growth have changed significantly in comparison to earlier periods. The study argues that the above determinants are indicators of changing global research structure and dynamics, and should be considered in national research and innovation policy making.

Computational biology is relatively a young branch of science, which has experienced tremendous growth in the last two decades. The seeds of this inter-discipline were sown at the end of the seventies, when computers became simpler to use, some biology laboratories de-cided to adopt them, mainly for storing and managing genomic data. As a result, there was quick completion of projects that would have otherwise taken several years. With a snowballing effect, genome sequencing projects generated large amounts of data whose man-agement required more powerful computers. The advent of the internet has allowed all the research laboratories to share their data, and make them available worldwide through some new genomic and pro-teomic data banks, such as Gene-Bank, European Molecular Biology Laboratory Data Library and many more. A patent portfolio shows the state of the art of research and development in a specific discipline. Patenting an invention is still tough in many countries, especially when the major part of the claim invention involves mathematical formulae, algorithms and computer programs. These per se are not pat-entable in many countries; however, they can be protected under copyrights as literary works or trade secrets. It is well known that mathematical formulae, algorithms and computer programs mainly form the core of computational biology. Till date, no study has been made to measure inventive progress in this new inter-discipline. The study shows the research and invention have occurred in a wide range of inter-disciplines, including functional genomics, molecular structure, sequence comparison, molecular simulations, machine learning, data visualization, database development and inventive activity confined to a handful of industrially developed and developing nations, of which majority are privately owned.

The purpose is to provide an oyerview of the research activities in the country on the subject during the last ten years, exploring different aspects of scientific literature. Data on 3529 items, including 2945 articles and 584 reviews published during 1 January 2005 to 31 December 2014 were collected using Scopus. An advanced search was conducted in the database. The search results were filtered for English language, journals, India and the period under study. Lotka 's law was applied to assess the author productivity and Bradford's law of scattering was used to ascertain the distribution pattern of articles in journals. Most (about 96%) contributions were found to be an outcome of collaborative authorship. Around 19.05% of the papers had collaboration of four authors and 16.53% appeared due to collective efforts of three authors each. Trend of an increasing number of articles published over the period has been observed. Author productivity did not fit the Lotka's law with a value of n - 2. The distribution of articles in journals was found acceptable to the Bradford's law of scattering.

Biosci Biotechnol Res Asia 2016, 13(1), 407-16.
This study aims to study the relationship between perceived usefulness and satisfaction with query reformulation tools in the Science Direct Database, A descriptive analytic method was used to study the relationship between variables; the data were collected using a researcher-made questionnaire. The participants were selected among the students of Information Sciences in Islamic Azad University of Research and Science Center of Khuzestan (n = 28). The findings showed that users main reason for query reformulation was not having enough time to investigate all retrieved results (Mean = 4.66). They also showed that based on perceived satisfaction and usefulness, the users used the query tools which bounded them to the topic (Mean = 3.92 for usefulness and M = 3.83 for satisfaction). In addition, Pearson's correlation co-efficiency (r = 0.939) at (0.001) significance level showed that users perceived usefulness from query reformulation tools increased satisfaction. Perceiving the usefulness of query reformulation tools improves the use of results. However, the usefulness is not the same for all tools and needs to be reviewed.

Ann Libr Inf Stud 2016, 63(3), 194-202.
Libraries are constantly grappling with ever-escalating cost of scholarly resources. Price escalation in e-resource subscriptions coupled with budgetary constraints has serious impact on libraries across the globe. This paper critically examines the prevalent situations that have been leading to resource sharing; primarily emanated from library cooperatives, interlibrary loan, buying clubs; subsequently changed to utility services, site licensing, and ultimately the Consortium - an emerging toolkit for libraries to survive. The strategic alliances amongst libraries and growth of library consortia have been discussed. The implications of different consortia models to the Indian libraries are explained; which suggests for a sustainable consortia organization among potential partners. The paper also attempts to provide an insight into how consortia strategies can overcome an unending fiscal constraint, and to sustain the buying power in collection development for better access to greater resources.

Research and publications are an important part of academics. Nowadays, there is an increasing trend amongst professionals including anaesthesiologists to submit scientific articles to journals for publication. Most journals are peer-reviewed which means that the articles they publish go through the peer review process. Peer review is carried out for assessing the inadequacies of research and manuscript preparation so that the best papers are published in a journal. Although peer review is a key part of the process for the publishing of medical research, there are some limitations in the system. Keeping this in mind, all aspects of peer reviewing were searched from books and journals for full text from PubMed and Google search. The information so gathered is presented in this article which focuses on the general aspects of the peer review process.
