It is the first time in the annals of Mysore University Library, University of Mysore, that an attempt is made by the investigators to explore what image the users have about the library. The application of strategic marketing methods to libraries and information centers is however of recent origin. The outcome of such studies, if found positive helps in attracting good funding. It also leads to the most effective way of managing a library besides enhancing its efficiency. The results show that the image and familiarity of this library among the users is somewhat favorable and most of them know a fair amount about it. A great majority of users seek the help of the library professionals to look for documents More than 50% of the respondents are satisfied with the library services. The users also suggest that they need more books followed by journals.

Results indicates that periodicals (79.12%) are the highly utilised source. Three authors (25.3%) write major percentages of articles. 25.98% and 76.70% cited journals and journal articles respectively are available in the J.J.M. Study attempts to explore the complexity of measuring productivity of scientists working in the laboratories functioning under the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), the primary public-funded research and development (R&D) laboratory system in India. The multifaceted nature of scientific productivity with outputs as varied as research papers, technical papers, patents filed and granted, processes developed, and processes utilized, have been explored. The analysis has been carried out at two levels - considering the five different productivity indices mentioned above put together across all the CSIR laboratories that have been considered and hence judging the performance of the concerned laboratories; and considering the impact of factors like age of a scientist, rank or hierarchy of a scientist, and research area of the laboratory he is working in, upon the productivity of the scientist measured in terms of the total number of research papers and technical papers published by him. It has been observed that some of the older laboratories have lost steam and are in urgent requirement of corrective action whereas some other older laboratories have maintained their level of R&D output. The biological sciences laboratories have been the most productive, so are the first rank scientists at the senior level and scientists in the age group of 40-50 years. The implications of the study results are discussed.

The aim of this paper is to forecast the time series of growth of literature data. Two different approaches to probe this kind of data have been applied. These approaches are the multiplicative seasonal model approach and nonlinear model approach where the trend has an exponential growth form. It has been shown that there is plethora of models that come out with good fit parameters. This communication thus highlights some basic issues related to forecast of growth of literatue data.

Presents a bibliometric study of library and information science research literature emanating from India based on the data abstracted ih Library and Information Science Abstracts (LISA). Standard bibliometric techniques are employed to analyse the collected data and accordingly get indicators. Bradford's law of scattering is used to identify core journals of library and information science wherein Indian authors publish their research output. To understand the productivity pattern of authors, Lotka's Law has been applied. The identified core journals are mostly published from India. Indian authors' contribution in' international journals is very low. A list of authors who have published 10 and more papers during 1967-2004 is drawn and presented. Such authors are 37 (1.35% number and authors with single publication have major share (74.63%). The author's productivity pattern is in conformity to Lotka's law.

The study presents an analysis of 536 papers published on library and information science education during the period 1995 to 2004, has been presented The productivity of authors and core periodicals have been determined using Lotka's and Bradford's law. Literature growth. country-wise distribution of papers and Ianguage pattern have also been studied. Literature growth in this area of LIS has been found to be negative. Most of the papers have been contributed by single authors (72.8%) and two authors (20.69%) and 72% of literature is published in 72 journals.

Bibliometric studies with dedication pages are hard to come by. Hence, this study was taken up to find out types of dedicatees, dedication pattern, trend of dedication, chronological distribution of dedications, subject-wise distribution of dedications and reasons of dedications. Some of the findings are quite interesting. Parents top the list among dedicatees, followed by spouses, teachers, children, friends, students, and so on. It is also to be noted that some authors of religious books have dedicated their books to gods, goddesses and saints. The country, countrymen, martyrs and leaders have also figured in the dedication pages of some books penned by patriots. Some practitioners and teachers of medicine have dedicated their books 10 patients whom possibly they could not forget because of their untimely death or some other reason.

On the basis of collected data this study examines year-wise distribution of papers, research group of the scientist and scattering of papers in different communication channels. In addition, it finds out author productivity, spectrum of research activity through analysis of the title keywords, and productivity of Koley's research group. Finally, it shows that the data set does not follow Bradford distribution.
