Main access point for any library's collections is the Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) which is the primary source of information in any library. In general, libraries use gateway approach for providing access to eResources such as eBooks. To effectively increase the usage of eBooks, it is necessary to develop & maintain library catalogue and provide searchable collection for electronic books. eCataloguer - an automatic tool for developing bibliographic database, designed and developed using Java. eCataloguer has a web interface by which library professional can seamlessly and quickly develop bibliographic database of library documents using ISBN number. This tool locates MARCXML record of the document by matching with ISBN number at Library Congress, reads the MARC tags & data values and presents the user in an interface for developing local database of library documents. In supervised mode of database development, the tool quickly locates and presents bibliographic data to the user for making corrections before submitting to the local database. It also facilitates for the development of database in batch mode. eCataloguer helps the library professionals to develop bibliographic database in a multi-user and multi-platform environment as it has been developed using Java technology not only for print books but also for electronic books. The developed search engine i.e. OPAC is integrated with the database developed using eCataloguer for searching and accessing relevant eBooks. Configuration of both tools on a Web server facilitates to increase the utility ofeBooks especially on Intranets where the users do not have Internet facility on their desktops.

This paper begins with the scope of natural information and encoded information. Natural information is the pattern of organization of matter and energy in the material world and gets represented through the process of encoding and embedding. The encoded information is based on patterns of organization derived from the use of symbols, language, and signals of our social and perceptual world, Embedded information is the corporeal manifestation of previously encoded information. Information appears as the external manifestation of knowledge named 'explicit' or embodied knowledge. Hence, the study of time-space effects on knowledge is relevant to information science. The Information Science Abstracts (ISA) of USA defines IS as "an interdisciplinary field concerned with the theoretical and practical concepts as well as the technologies, laws, and industry dealing with knowledge transfer and the sources, generation, organization, representation, processing, distribution, communication and uses of information, and communications among users and their behaviour as they seek to satisfy their information needs." The dynamic shifts and changes in the emerging knowledge society are taking place in a time / space matrix and has reciprocal relationship with knowledge. The changes over time in the production and quantification of information are discussed. The time-related attributes of time discussed include compressibility and expandability; role of communication in information flow; bibliometrics and informetrics; patterns of growth of information over time, the logistic pattern and exponential pattern; application of Boltzman equation model and heat conduction model to diffusion of information; sociological implications of time-dependent models; and acceleration of pace of information growth in relation to its obsolescence rates. Time in collaborative research and business data growth, statistical pattern in information phenomena such as document life parameters are considered. Sociological and behavioural aspects of research communication are also noted.

Knowledge means the data and information are insights and context of the mind. It may be viewed as the cumulative effect of a lifetime of insight, intuition, context, experience and wisdom. Knowledge management means "knowing what you know and profiting from it". (Built upon computational logic and based on memory). It can also be explained as "doing the right thing" as opposed to "doing things right". Knowledge management can be classified into two types 1) Codified or explicit knowledge, which can be written down, transferred and shared and this can be protected under a legal mechanism. 2) Tacit knowledge or "know-how", which is, by nature, more difficult to describe as it can be demonstrated but not codified. Knowledge Management in the library called as "the strategies and process of identifying, capturing, and leveraging knowledge to help the assessor at the right time". Both intellectual capital and knowledge management have come to be the two strongly emerging themes in today's emerging world. From these perspectives the digital libraries prove that a society based on knowledge and learning is critical.

Education plays a vital role in the overall development of an individual. Public library should be a living force behind it. It should cover all sections of society including the illiterate, neo-literate, semi-skilled, children and youth, house-wives etc. Library should create reading habits among the rural people through distribution of books, display of attractive pictures etc. In India, rural population's economic needs are very much related to small enterprises and agriculture. The material should be related to better farming techniques, new seed technology, pesticides, good health family planning programmes, cultural values, small savings and other activities related to social evils which will fulfill the purpose of rural libraries. Lack of education is a huge problem for the developing world, and literacy and information literacy just have to be promoted. Therefore rural libraries and school libraries should be main targets for aid from developing countries in order to create a situation where the developing countries could reach the ability to help themselves.

Except difference in total number of publications, growth, rank, quality and ICP all are almost the same. Difference in number of publications can be due to the limitations of the study and duration of establishment of these institutes. Earlier, due to paucity of means to gauge the quality of the research, it was not possible to observe the quality of the research. Hence, an effort has been made to create awareness amongst the medical fraternity about the quality check of their research, which is now possible through these citation databases.

The paper attempts to study the pattern of expenditure and the number of books acquired in the five disciplines each from the three major subject groups of Sciences, Social Sciences and Humanities in IGM Library, University of Hyderabad, for the period 2004-05 to 2009-10. The impact of increasing prices of monographs and foreign exchange conversion rates on the acquisitions were estimated. The annual increase of prices, their dispersion and consistency over the period were examined by applying reliable statistical methods: The average increase of prices was compared with the Indian inflation. Finally, price index numbers were compiled to find out the real increase of prices among the subjects. The results of the study indicate, that no uniform policy was adopted in spending the budget amount for each discipline. The impact of increasing prices of monographs is very high on acquisitions and the foreign exchange conversion rates had very little influence on the prices of monographs. Overall, the prices of monographs increased by almost two to three times over the Indian inflation. The price index numbers also showed an increase of two to three times over the base year. Wliereas the budget has decreased by six to eight times during the period of study.

This study examined the information needs, sources and search strategies of international travellers in Nigeria within the backdrop of unfavourable events in the aviation sector in the past 10 years. Accidental sampling technique was used to select 203 willing respondents from an undefined number of travellers found at the departure wings of the 14 international airlines operating at Nigeria's busiest international airport: the Murtala Muhammad International Airport Lagos, Nigeria, during June to September 2010. Data collection was guided by a questionnaire covering demographic characteristics, information needs and information sources of the passengers as well as travel variables. Chi-square analysis was used to reveal statistically significant relationships in the proportions for different groups. The travellers were a little above middle age on the average; mainly women, about 1 of 3 being self-employed, about 3 of 10 Christians and a little more than half were married, and 9 of every 10 reported residing in Nigeria. Travellers required information about fare more than they did about safety. Travel agents were the major sources of information to travellers; less number of travellers used the Internet, and lesser were solely reliant on the strategy. There is a significant difference in all the groups examined. Travellers from Nigeria seemed not to show any apprehension about safety; they prefer sourcing information from travel agencies probably because it takes away from them the troubles of logistic arrangements. This research is useful to travel agencies and airline operators in modelling their marketing management decisions and designing effective marketing communication campaigns and service delivery.

006265 Neville C (NO, Bradford Univ, Bradford, UK) : Referencing: principles, practice and problems. RGUHS J pharm Sci 2012, 2(2), 1-8.
This paper explores a neglected aspect of academic writing, namely the principles and practice of referencing sources. In recent years, plagiarism has been a dominant concern for higher education practitioners. However, there can be a fine line between plagiarism and poor referencing practice, and higher education institutions report that students often struggle to understand, not just the 'how', but the 'when' and 'why' aspects of referencing. This paper will, however, assert that student difficulties can stem from the inconsistencies of institutional advice, proliferation of referencing styles, and an over-emphasis by institutions on the technical presentation of sources, rather than on the principles underpinning referencing. The author will argue that academic writers, particularly students, should be encouraged by institutions to perceive referencing primarily as a tool for the development of an authentic authorial voice, rather than just as a defensive shield against accusations of plagiarism.

Agriculture is mainstay of more than two-third of population in India as 60-65% of population is in villages and earns their livelihood through agriculture and related activities. A total of 91% of India's population lived in villages during 1900s this number has eroded in course of time and it is expected to be 50% by 2020, Agriculture is the backbone of Indian economy and animal husbandry is backbone of agriculture. The agriculture sector is in serious crunch and the situation become worse when there is draught or flood. Series of hurdles in agriculture sector and neglected field of animal husbandry as co-business to agriculture has made a serious concern and obtained the national attention as evident from the recent suicides in Vidharbha region. Adoption of newer technologies and awareness among the farmers along with minimum assurance from government may turn the picture. Our livestock development programmes in the state are affected due to depletion of pasture, low public investment, productivity stagnation, inadequate technological applications and low processing efficiency of animal by-products and appropriation of value by market intermediaries at the cost of farmers. Livestock, unlike farming, rearing is less affected by weather conditions and thus provide dependable source of income to the farmers during lean agriculture period, which provide fair amount of sustainability to family. The above facts reveal that more research and invention are required in order to elevate the production and augment the income of the poor farmers. The veterinarians are working hard to invent something new to facilitate the farmers to increase the production. The librarian can assist the researchers several ways. The librarian offers several services to make the research work easy. The content analysis is one of the methods to provide information and reference to the previous research work to the researchers.
