Fusion technique was employed for the preparation of derivatives of composition [Na_xM_(1-x)/2aSm_(1-x)/2aPO₃]n where M=bivalent metal like Cu(II), Ca(II), Zn(II), Ni(II), and Mg(II), x = 1/2, 3/4 and 2/3, and a = valency of metal. Compositions of these polyphosphate glasses were confirmed by analysis for metals and phosphorus. The polymeric nature of all polyphosphate glasses was confirmed by determination of the average molecular weight (M_n). Conductance studies reveal the polyelectrolytic behaviour of these complexes and it was also found that the degree of dissociation and ionic mobility of the polymeric anions are independent of their molecular weights and composition.

Cadmium secondary systems have high energy density, power density, long cycle life, rugged physical structure and good low temperature performance. Cadmium secondary systems are mainly used in Electric vehicles as well as in military and commercial aircraft. The main problems of cadmium secondary systems are passivation, dissolution and precipitation of the oxidation products of cadmium in the electrolyte. The present study deals with the effect of additives added to the cadmium hydroxide electrode for increasing the discharge capacity and for minimizing self-discharge. The influence of individual additive in various concentrations of Pb(NO₃)₂, Cu(NO₃)₂, Mg(NO₃)₂ and ZnSO₄ on the reversibility of the redox couple in examined by cyclic voltammetric technique. The effect of discharge rate on the cyclic efficiency and ageing behaviour are also discussed. The self-discharge currents at both room temperature and elevated temperatures are determined by potentiodynamic polarization method. Impendance techniques is also used to characterize the performance of the porous cadmium electrodes. Based on these studies, a suitable and optimum composition for the electode fabrication is suggested.

The method is simple, sensitive and free from interference of many ions except Molybdenum.

Considering pure biodiesel of groundnut oil and its blend up to 10% in particular with heavy duty Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) vehicles, it is one of the important alternative safe fuels to stabilize green house gas (GHG) emission level in the atmosphere and the results were quite encouraging leading to 22% mileage improvement in groundnut oil ester diesel blend (GOED 10%) compared to 20% in pure groundnut oil ester (GOE). But both have selective improvement compared to diesel. Thus GOED 10% shows 74% improvement and considerable reduction in exhaust emission compared to 73% improvement in pure GOE. The best performance safe fuel compared to HSD is GOED 10% and besides biodiesel of groundnut oil having an agricultural base, it is one of possible renewable, oxygenated fuel with high calorific value. It strengthens the environmental issues in reducing emission particulates due to low sulphur content of 0.20 in GOE compared to 0.25 in high speed diesel (HSD).
