The primary focus of this study is to investigate the connection between peer relationships and alcohol use among Filipino college athlete and non-athlete students. This paper had examined the contribution of peer pressure to the initiation of alcohol use and the implications of alcohol consumption to Filipino athletes and non-athlete students. To give deeper understanding and justification on the main issue, the descriptive research method was utilized in this study using literature review. The study also identified that college students either athletes or non-athlete often struggle when dealing with the pressure to drink alcohol. Responding to peer pressure is part of human nature but some people are more likely to be in harm or in danger because of it. It consistently linked to alcohol use in college students. Higher peer pressure susceptibility is found to be the main factor why most college athletes and non-athlete students face emotional, physical and mental issues. The research also discussed other studies to re-examine the relationship between participation in sport and binge drinking and how this varies by age and gender. To do so, this study have discussed and analyzed the influences among athletes and non-athletes and implied possible explanations for the relationship between alcohol drinking and peer pressure in organized sport.

The philosophy of mind is generally concerned with the following two types of questions— epistemological and metaphysical. The epistemological questions are the questions about what we can know when it comes to the mind. These epistemological questions include questions about (a) how we can know about the mental states of others, (b) how we can know about our own mental states, and (c) the nature of these forms of knowledge. Metaphysical questions are concerned with the fundamental structure of the mind. The problem that has dominated the philosophy of mind over the last three centuries or so, and which will provide the basis of these notes, is a metaphysical one: the mind-body problem. This paper is an attempt to answer these questions.

Healthcare is an essential element in the lives of all humans, yet it is controlled by so many factors that determine how it can be delivered. The difference in the social class and economic status of individuals contribute to the disparity in the treatment of some conditions mostly because of the costs incurred and processes required. As for the case of India and its population, the significant factors hindering cancer treatment include late diagnosis of the condition affected by various social beliefs and cultures. On the other hand, while cancer centers do exist, the infrastructure in some regions deters most patients from accessing the services provided. It is also observed that the high numbers of cancer patients exceed that of the oncologists giving them a hard time to manage each as required and expected. Despite the information and rate of literacy among Indian women, breast cancer is prevailing making it a concern to all involved stakeholders. The research conducted on what causes cancer and the reasons it is on the rise has helped healthcare practitioners to come up with relevant solutions that ease treatment and allocation of information. The goal of all cancer centers is to inform individuals of all the cancer causes for them to play a role in prevention. On the other hand, more oncologists are needed, so training as many individuals a possible will help curb the patient: doctor ratio disparity.

Cancer is a curable disease that can turn terminal when presented for treatment in its later stages. While it is a non-communicable illness, many factors contribute to its prevalence including genetics, lifestyle and exposure to toxic waste. Social work involves helping individuals, families and communities to improve their overall well-being to enhance social functioning (Healy, 2014). Oncology social workers help patients and their families cope with the distress brought on by cancer from its onset to the treatment or terminal stage (Mostert, 2017). Social workers in the Dakshina Kannada area, therefore, must create awareness on the causes of various cancers, their advancement and treatment to increase the current cancer survival rate (Mostert, 2017; National Institute of Cancer Prevention and Research, 2017). This paper reviews the cancer awareness levels in the Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka state in India to determine the levels of cancer awareness causal factors and possible solutions that social workers can use to solve the issues this raises.

Imprecise chronological data have long been affecting archaeological studies in Assam and Meghalaya, North East India. Relative dating methods have been used to study the antiquity of stone tools and ceramics found in the archaeological sites of these two areas. Both the areas are important as the eastern Asiatic Neolithic complex of double-shouldered celts and cord-marked pottery was first reported in India from Daojali Hading, Assam (1961), Garo Hills, Meghalaya has the highest concentration of prehistoric sites found in North East India. Optically stimulated lumi- nescence dating offered an excellent opportunity for dating the ceramic samples recovered during the first excavations in 1961 (Daojali Hading in Dima Hasao district Assam) and 1999 (Gawak Abri, Garo Hills), as the method provided a direct age estimate of the time of last exposure of quartz or feldspar minerals to light or heat, and the purity of the etched quartz (i.e. any feldspar contaminations) can be confirmed by infrared stimulated luminescence technique. Date obtained from Daojali Hading is 2.7 ± 0.3 ka (LD1728) and that from Gawak Abri is 2.3 ± 0.2 ka (LD1727).

In the recent years empowerment of women has been recognized as a central issue in determining the status of women. The participation of women in SHG have made a significant impact on women empowerment both social and economic aspects. Empowerment of women is essential for development of full potential of our total human resources. Empowerment of women is therefore pressing need of the day. Various dimensions of empowerment include psychological, political, social and economic empowerment. Psychological empowerment means to establish individual identity, self image, increasing self esteem and developing capabilities. The study was conducted in Karnataka state during 2014-15. Eight districts from all four geographical divisions were selected for the study viz., Chitraduraga, Ramanagara, Chikkaballapur, Bagalkot, Belagavi, Dharwad, Koppal and Mandya. From each district 50 Self help groups formed between 2005-2010 were randomly selected. Thus the total 400 SHG's were selected for the study. From each SHG three members were taken as respondents. Against each SHG two non members were selected from the same village. Thus the total sample consisted of 2000 respondents among which 1200 were members and 800 were non-members. As the SHGs have made the women to come out of their houses, farm groups interact with members by attending meeting, hence it has given way for the improvement in their socio- life psychological attitudes thus the SHGs have helped the members to empower socio-psychologically. But the non-members have not got such opportunity and hence their empowerment level is low compared to members of SHG's. 92 per cent of the non-members have low level of economic empowerment whereas only 56.92 members are at low level, only 4 per cent of the non-members but 38.25 per cent members are at medium level of economic empowerment with regard to high level almost equal percentage i.e. 4.83 per cent members and four per cent non-members are at this level of economic empowerment. It is also clear that the empowerment status of members is greater than non-members in all the cases. This clearly indicates that the Self help groups have helped women to improve in all dimensions of empowerment and in turn overall empowerment which leads to development of women as well as nation. Thus Shakthi Shakthi movement has gone a long way in empowering the rural women.

No doubt, William Shakespeare is the greatest creator of characters ad his characters have got a wide range. He has maintained a balance between major ad minor characters as he himself was a nice actor as well as director of his dramas. The drama Hamlet is remarkable for its variety, richness and its fullness of interesting characters major as well as minor. In Hamlet minor characters- Polonius, Laertes, Horatio, the Ghost, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern and Fortinbras play their significant roles. The ghost initiates the action. Rosencrantz & Guildestern play a dubious role. Fortinbras inspires Hamlet to shake off his idleness. In fact, Shakespeare was a man of the world and with his unique artistic gift he wrote plays which are a true replica of our world.

Underweight is a predisposing factor and a leading cause of mortality among pre-schoolchildren in low and middle income countries worldwide. Pre-schoolchildren require relatively higher nutritional requirements for their body weight compared to older children and adults which makes them vulnerable for underweight. According to the third National Family Health Survey-3 in which 42.5% of under 5 children are underweight. This study aims to study the selected environmental factors associated with underweight among pre-schoolchildren in a rural area. A community-based case control study was conducted in 10 villages of Kancheepuram District, Tamil Nadu. Sample size was calculated with two-sided confidence interval of 95%, power 90%, and ratio of cases to controls of 1. Taking the percent of exposure (lower socioeconomic status) in controls and cases as 22% and 43%, respectively, and an odds ratio of 2.6. The sample size calculated was 112 (cases-112 and controls 112). Chi-square test was applied to test the statistical difference in proportion and odds ratio was calculated. The significant risk factors on univariate analysis for underweight were socioeconomic status (OR=5.16), inadequate ventilation (OR=1.8), presence of indoor pollution (OR=2.8), firewood used as fuel for cooking (OR=1.8), practice of open air defecation (OR=2.06). After adjusting for confounders using multivariate analysis the significant risk factors were socioeconomic status (OR=5.75), inadequate ventilation (OR=3.2). Poor socioeconomic status and inadequate ventilation were found to be associated with malnutrition in our study population.

The mean age of the study subjects was 17.39 ± 1.35 years range was 15-19 years. The pattern of internet use was seen in our study, majority students were using computer for the past 4 years, whereas the majority of students were using internet for the last 4 years. Chatting was most common preferred use reported in our - 418 - study, followed by shopping 140 (64.22%). There is a need to make aware both students and parents about the positive and negative effect of internet use.

Tea is consumed by a range of age groups in all levels of society. Tea is one of the richest sources of antioxidants and the three major forms of antioxidant tea are green tea, oolong tea and black tea. White tea is one of the newer entries. Antioxidant activity of tea is affected by many natural polyphenols: catechins, oxyaromatic acids, tannins, flavonols, thearubigins, theaflavins, etc. The present study was conducted to determine total antioxidant activity of different teas, black, white, green and oolong tea, to determine flavonoid content, total phenol content and study phytochemical screening of the different teas. A survey was conducted among 40 subjects to assess the popularity of tea consumption, awareness on the different varieties of tea, its health benefits, type and brand preferred etc. Among the four samples of tea, antioxidant activity was tested by using DPPH method. The methanolic - 390 - extracts of white tea showed highest antioxidant activity, with IC50 value of 231.52 μg/ml. Black tea showed weak antioxidant activity with IC50 value of 317.45 μg/ml. The antioxidant activity of white tea was higher than the other varieties of teas. Flavonoid content is higher in white tea than in green, oolong and black tea. Phenol and tannin content was also high in white tea than other three teas. Hence antioxidant activity, free radical scavenging and microbial activity were higher in white tea than the other varieties. From the sensory evaluation conducted, white tea was found to be highly acceptable.

Nutritional points of view, P.sajor had high content of all the proximate principles like protein, fat, carbohydrates, ash and fibre in as compared to P.florida and P. sapidus in both fresh or dry weight basis. The drying process for extension of shelf-life indicates that hot air oven drying method took less time (4hrs) in comparison to sun drying method (12hrs). The weight loss was, more rapid in hot air drying method. Before drying of mushroom, 0.5% kms treatment with blanching was essential for controlling the browning reaction of the product. Better rehydration ratio was observed in sundried mushroom than the hot air oven dried mushrooms. Blanching of mushroom carried out during drying also reduced the rehydration ratio in both the processes.
