¹H NMR spectroscopy has been employed in the characterization of some under-utilized legume seed oils while the quantitative integrity of the NMR derived fatty acids composition is verified by gas chromatographic analysis of the oils. The peak area ratio of (-CH₂-)/(=CCH₂C=) in the proton NMR spectra of oils have been used as an index of characterization of oils. The ratios are close for all the oils studied being, 26.4 for dark red coat Vigna subterranean, 21.6 for Kerstingiella geocarpa, 24.8 for moderate brown coat Vigna unguiculata, 24.3 for small white coat Vigna unguiculata and 25.9 for Phaseolus coccineus indicating similarity in the level of unsaturated fatty acids.

These are characterized on the basis of analytical, conductance, thermal, magnetic data and infrared, electronic and spectral data. The ligand NBHB is a potential chelating agent. The ligand NBHB is behaving as a neutral bidentate, NN donor coordinating through azomethine nitrozens (ring & side chain). The stoichiometry of the complexes has been found to be 1:1 (metal: ligand) in Cr (III) and Fe (111) complexes 1:2 in case of Mn (II) complex. The ligand and metal complexes were screened for their physiological activities against the E. co/i, S. aureus and Proteus sp.

The experimental values of the ionic percentage of the alkali-halide bonds in the vapour of phase, do not agree well with the celebrated pauling formula. A new formula has therefore, been proposed here which is in better agreement with the data. The semi-empirical AMI and INDO/CIS methods as well as density function theory have been used to study equilibrium geometries and spectroscopic properties of the possible isomers of C₇₈O₆ based on C_2v-C₇₈. The most stable geometry at the ground state of C₇₈O₆ is found to be 28, 29, 30, 31, 52, 53, 70, 71, 73, 78, 75, 76-C₇₈O₆ (A). The C(70)-C(71) and C(75)-C(76) bonds are opened up to form annulene-like structures, whereas the other four bonds are not broken and show epoxy features in C₇₈O₆ (A). The oxygen atoms added tend to approach the sites vacated by the previous oxygen atoms since the conjugation system in C_2v-C₇₈ is destroyed at these sites. Based on the B3LYP/6-31G optimized geometries, the main absorptions in the electronic spectra and the stretching vibrations of the C=C bonds in the IR spectra of C₇₈O₆ isomers are blue shifted as compared with those of C_2v-C₇₈ calculated using the INDO/CIS and AMI method, respectively. The chemical shifts of the carbon atoms in the epoxy and annulene-type structures of C₇₈O₆ isomers, calculated at B3LYP/6-31G level, move upfield.

Betulinic acid, 3β-hydroxy-lup-20(29)-ene-oic acid is a natural product isolated from several genuses of higher plants. The isolated active compound has a molecular formula of C₃₀H₄₈O₃, as determined by high-resolution mass spectral analysis. Betulinic acid has attracted attention due to its important pharmacological properties, such as anti-cancer and anti-HIV activities. In order to obtain derivatives potentially useful for detailed pharmacological studies, enzyme was introduced in this study. Enzymatic reaction of betulinic acid with benzoyl chloride using Novozymeas catalyst produced ester of betulinic acid with 45% yield. The reaction was carried out at temperature of 50°C for 12 hrs with chloroform as solvent. The product was identified based on spectroscopic data.

Cellulose esters with linear aliphatic acyl substituents [C8 (octanoyl chloride) to CI8 (stearoyl chloride)] were synthesized in homogeneous solution (DMAc/LiCl) using triethylamine (TEA) as acid-scavenger and characterized by means of elemental analysis. FT-IR and CP/MAS ¹³C Solid State NMR spectroscopy. Wide angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD), Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) showed that solvent exchange has no effects on the crystallinitv of cellulose, but crystalhnity structure was destroyed after esterification in DMAc/LiCI homogeneous solution. SEM results suggested that fibril structure was also destroyed after esterification. Glass transition temperature (T_g) of cellulose oclaonale (C8) increased linearly with degree of substitution (DS) from 61°C for 0.08 to 172°C for 1.57. At the experimental conditions, side-chain crystallization occurred with increasing linear aliphatic side-chain length to C18.

Eu(TTA)₃phen/vinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) composite nanofibers have been prepared by electrospinning technique. The spectral properties of Eu(TTA)₃phen/PVP composite nanofibers have been studied, as compared to that of Eu(TTA)₃phen powders. The excitation of Eu(TTA)₃phen/PVP systems by UV light results in a ligand-to-metal energy transfer and the emission spectra display characteristic luminescence of the central ions (⁵D₀→⁷F₂ for Eu³⁺). Photoluminescence measurements show that Eu(TTA)₃phen/PVP nanofibers have higher intensity and longer lifetime than that of Eu(TTA)₃phen powders because of the influence of PVP on the coordinative environment of lanthanide ions.

Silica nanoparticles have been prepared using tetrethylorthosilicate, water, aqueous ammonia, ethanol and octadecyltrimethoxy silanc as constituents. Kinetics studies have been carried out to characterize the material by analyzing the yield, which follows an S type curve. At the eighth hour, the yield reaches maximum in time (hours) versus yield (%) plot. In conventional synthesis, a part of the product particles is small in size (100 nm, 80%) while the remaining is bigger in size (300 nm, 20%). The particle size is normalized on addition of octadecyltrimethoxy silane and is increased to a small extent (400 nm). The sample has been analyzed by XRD, SEM, TEM, E-DAX, FT-IR, N₂ adsorption and ²⁸Si MASNMR techniques. The sample is amorphous with surface area of 93.54 nr/g and contains Q₂, Q₃ and Q₄ species. TEM reveals the particles to be core shell type which is absent in ODTS-free samples. The samples show Si-O-Si tetrahedral skeletal vibrations.

Removal of chromium(VI) from aqueous solution was studied using abundantly available trametes versicolor polyporus fungi as biosorbing medium under equilibrium and column flow conditions. Various sorption parameters such as contact time, effect of pH, concentration of Cr(VI) and amount of biomass on the adsorption capacity of the biosorbent were studied. The equilibrium adsorption data were fitted to Freundlich and Langmuir adsorption isotherm models and the model parameters are evaluated. In addition, the data were used to predict the kinetics of adsorption. The results indicated that the adsorption of Cr(VI) on fungi followed second order kinetics. The column flow adsorption data were used to predict break through curves. The fungi loaded with Cr(VI) was regenerated with 0.1 M NaOH solution and the regenerated biomass was used in the subsequent adsorptionªdesorption cycles. The experimental results demonstrated that the trametes versicolor polyporus fungi could be used as sorbent for immobilizing Cr(VI).

Density (p). viscosity (η) and ultrasonic (U) velocity (2 MHz) of pure solvents (1,2-dichloro ethane, chloroform, THF and 1.4-dioxane) and solutions of polysulfonate (PANDPE) in these solvents have been investigated at 303, 308 and 313 K. Acoustical parameters (specific acoustical impedance (Z), isentropic compressibility (K)_s, Rao's molar sound function(R), Van der Waals constant (b), internal pressure (π), free volume (V_f). intermolecular free path length (L_f), classical absorption coefficient (α/f²)_el and viscous relaxation time (π)] have been determined from p. η and data and correlated with concentration at 303, 308 and 313 K. A fairly good to excellent correlation between a given parameter and concentration is observed at all temperatures and solvent systems studied. Linear or nonlinear increase or decrease of acoustical parameters with concentration and temperature indicated existence of strong molecular interactions. Positive values of solvation number suggested structure-forming tendency of the polymer.

Dissolution kinetics for the removals of iron and aluminium from red mud, a by-product or waste of the Bayer Process, with sulphuric acid were studied. The process parameters studied include calcination temperature, sulphuric acid concentration, particle size, agitation rate, dissolution temperature and time. Temperature and acid concentration had strong influence on the dissolution of iron and aluminium. The mechanism for the dissolution of both iron and aluminium followed first order kinetic model equation (F1), -ln(1-a) = kt, controlled by interfacial chemical reaction, with the apparent activation energies of 61.42 and 7.39 kj/mol, respectively. Using 6 M acid, the removals of 97.46% iron and 64.40% aluminium were achieved from red mud calcined at 873 K.

A potentiometric titration method in non-aqueous media is proposed for the determination of some vic-dioxime compounds. Potentiometric titration of vic-dioxime ligands was carried out in 2-propanol solvent using tetra-n-butylammonium hydroxide (TBAH) as titrant at 25°C and under nitrogen atmosphere. The hydroxide protons of vic-dioximes were titrated to have clear information about their acidic characterization. There are two main effects to acidity of vic-dioximes, respectively, molecular structure and solvent effect. PK_a values and half neutralization potentials of these compounds were determined using the potentiometric titration curves. A comparison of the pK, values of vic-dioximes reveals that the chlorophenyl ring is more acidic than the phenyl and naphthalene ring. PK_avalues of the naphthalene ring were determined that more acidic then phenylene ring. The standard errors and signum values of the potentiometric titration datas were calculated with linear regulation method.

Cu(II) complexes are binucleating, EPR-studies provide support for a weak magnetic exchange infraction between the two copper (II) ions via the ligand bridge. Both Cu_A and Cu_B-have different stereochemistry as revealed by physical studies.

A polyaniline/polypyrrole (PANI/PPy) polymer film was deposited on a tin oxide coated glass electrode, which was used to study electrochemical behaviour of furazolidone by cyclic voitamrnetric method. Two well-defined reduction peaks (c₁ at-0.35SV and c, at -0.784V) and one oxidation peak were.observed at 0.306 V. The results, compared with that of a glassy carbon electrode, indicate that reduction peak potential of furazolidone shifts in negative direction and reduction peak current increases significantly at PANI/PPy modified polymer film electrode. PANI/PPy polymer electrode, characterized by FT-IR spectroscopy, UV- vis spectroscopy, and SEM studies, was found stable and produced a pronounced response in long pH range (5-12). Resistance of polymer film was determined by I-V characteristics. Proposed polymer electrode gave satisfactory results in determination of furazolidone.

The experimental data have been used to calculate various acoustical parameters such as, apparent molal volume (ϕ_v), apparent molal compressibility (ϕ_K(S)), intermolecular free length (L_f), specific acoustic impedance (Z_s) and relative association (R_A). Tin(IV) complexes of 7-substituted 6,7-benzo-l,5-dizepines have been synthesized in absolute alcoholic medium. Elemental analysis indicates that the complexes have 1:2 stoichiometry of the type L₂SnC₄ TGA data support this conclusion. Molar conductance values in DMF at 10^-3 M suggest that, these complexes are non-electrolytes. Infrared spectral data shows the involvement of C=N and NH groups in coordination with the metal ion. X-ray diffraction pattern of few representative complexes indicate that, these are having simple cubic crystal structure. The energy of activation and order of reaction are calculated using TGA data of the complexes. All these information support that Sn(IV) in these complexes exhibits coordination number eight.

A series of novel tetrahydroxy cyclic urea molecules as HIV-l protease inhibitors were designed using computational techniques. The designed molecules were compared with the known cyclic urea molecules by performing docking studies on six of wild type protein and three mutant protein varieties and calculating their ADME properties. A series of novel molecules were designed by substituting hydrogen at the P₁/ P₁' positions with hydroxyl group increasing the bioavailability these had better ADME properties and binding affinity towards HIV-l protease. The biological activity of these inhibitors were predicted by a model equation generated by the regression analysis between biological activity (log l/Ki) of known inhibitors and there combined docking scores from six of the wild type protein docking. The synthetic studies are in progress.

Sandwich-type composite films of polypyrrole (PPy) and La_1-xSr_xCoO₃ (0 ≤x≤0.4) on a conductive graphite support (G) have been obtained by electropolymerization for electrocatalysis of the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). The composite films have been characterized by SEM, EDAX, cyclic voltammetry, impedance and Talfel polarization techniques. The studies show that the composite electrodes are greatly active for the ORR than the non-composite one. The higher Sr substitutions (>0.2 mol) have an adverse effect on the electrocatalytic activity. The rate for the ORR at the composite film has been found to decrease with decreasing pH of the electrolyte. Among all the four composite electrodes studied, the G/PPy/PPy(La_0.8Sr_0.2CoO₃)/PPy electrode in 0.5 mol dm^-3 K₂SO₄ plus 5 m moldm^-3 KOH at 25°C exhibits the highest electrocatalytic activity towards the ORR.

The kinetics and mechanism of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide catalyzed oxidation of tetraethylene glycol [2,2'-(oxibis(ethylenoxy)diethanol)] by N-chlorosaccharin in aqueous acetic acid medium in presence of perchloric acid have been investigated at 323K. The reaction is first order dependence on N-chlorosaccharin. The reaction rate follows first order kinetics with respect to [tetraethylene glycol] with excess concentration of other reactants. The miceller effect due to cetyltrimethylammonium bromide, a cationic surfactant has been studied. The change in ionic strength shows negligible salt effect. The dielectric effect is found to be positive. Addition of one of the products (saccharin) retards the reaction rate. Activation parameters are calculated from the Arrhenious plot. A possible mechanism consistent with the experimental results has been proposed.

Reactions of the ligands, 2,6-diacetylpyridine bis(S-methylisothiosemicarbazone) and 2,6-diacetylpyridine bis(S-butylisothiosemicarbazone) with ruthenium(III), rhodium(III) and iridium(III) have been studied and their structures have been proposed based on elemental analyses, molar conductance, magnetic moment, spectral data (IR, ¹H NMR, FAB mass) and thermal investigations. The ligands behave as pentacoordinated and give acyclic complexes of the general formula [M(H₂L)Cl₂]Cl and macrocyclic complexes, [M(L')Cl₂]Cl-H₂O, which are formed by template condensation by using |3-diketones. Pentagonal bipyramidal geometries are observed for acyclic and macrocyclic complexes. In both types of complexes, the ligands coordinate in their amino form. The thermal stability and mode of decomposition of the various complexes have been studied by TGA techniques. Conductance measurements reveal 1:1 electrolytic nature of the complexes.

This prochiral allylic phosphine oxide was treated with OsO₄, DHQ₂ PHAL and NMO in t-BuOH to give the chiral 4-diphenylphosphinoylbutane-1,2-diol. The synthesized products are served as excellent inhibitors in the medium of 15% H₂SO₄on API 5L52X steel.

Preparation and properties of a few chelated diamine complexes of copper(II) are reported. The compounds, [Cu(en)₂(H₂O)₂](ClO₄)₂ (1), [Cu(tmen)₂(H₂O)₂](ClO₄)₂ (2), [Cu₂(en)₂Cl₄]_n (3) and [Cu₂(en)₂(SO₄)₂(H₂O)₄].2H₂O (4) have been prepared in moderate to excellent yields and characterized by various physicochemical techniques. The structure of [Cu₂(en)₂Cl₄]_n (3) has been determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction. Complex 3 crystallizes in monoclinic space group P2₁/m, with unit cell parameters a = 6.7850 (14) Angstrum, b = 5.7600(12) Angstrum, c = 8.2240(16)Angstrum, β= 93.75(3)°, V = 320.7(1)Angstrum³. The structure has been solved by direct method and refined by full-matrix least squares to final R₁ = 0.0460, wR₂ = 0.1249 and GooF = 1.135 for all 818 reflections. Each copper atom in complex 3 is present in a distorted octahedral environment created by a chelating ethylenediamine ligand and four chlorine atoms. Two adjacent parallel -Cu-Cl-Cu- chains joined by short Cu-Cl bonds give rise to a zigzag ribbon-like polymer. Complex 1 has been studied as a catalyst for the conversion of aromatic aldehydes to acylals under solvent-free conditions at room temperature.

Arylazo barbituric acid prepared by coupling diazotized 4-aminoantipyrine with 2-thiobarbituric acid is tautomerised to its hydrazone form, 5-(2,3-dimethyl-1 -phenyl-3-pyrazolin-5-one-4-ylhydrazono)hexahydropyrimidine-2-thioxo-4 , 5, 6-trione [HTB-AAP] and acts as a tridcntate monovalent ligand towards zinc(II) as evidenced by IR, ¹H-NMR and electronic spectra. The single crystal X-ray study of [Zn(TBAAP)(H₂O)₂]NO₃.DMSO reveals that the coordinating sites are the azomethine nitrogen and the two carbonyl oxygen atoms on the pyrazolone and the thiobarbituric add rings. The zinc(II) ion is five coordinated and nitrate is in the ionic state. Thermal studies support the presence of two coordinated water molecules. XRD investigations confirm the presence of one molecule DMSO as solvate in the complex.

Chromatography was performed isocratically on Thermo Hypurity C₁₈ analytical column, (50 mm x 4.6 mm, 5 μm i.d.). The assay of cinitapride was linear calibration curve over the range 20.118 pg mL^-1 to 2011.797 pg mL^-1. Plasma concentrations of cinitapride were determined by LC-MSIMS with a limit of quantification of 20.118 pg mL^-1 that allowed an appropriate characterization of the pharmacokinetic profile of cinitapride at the therapeutic dose. The method was successfully applied to the bioequivalence study of cinitapride tablet (1.0 mg) administered as a single oral dose.

The complex has been characterized by FT-IR spectroscopy, UV-vis spectra, thermogravimetric analysis, cyclic voltammetry and X-ray crystallography. The iron(II) complex 1 crystallizes in the monoclinic, space group C2/c, a = 26.664(5) Angstrum, b = 6.9943(11) Angstrum, c = 14.727(2) Angstrum, β = 97.498(3)°, and Z = 8. The structural study reveals that it is a penta-coordinate Fe(II) dimeric complex.

The Schiff base acts as a tridentate dibasic and coordinating through the deprotonated oxygen, thioenolic sulphur and azomethine nitrogen atoms. It is found that Cu(II), Co(II), and Ni(II) complexes exhibited octahedral geometry. The antimicrobial activities of ligands and its complexes were screened by cup plate method.

The viscosities, densities and ultrasonic velocities of binary liquid mixtures of methanol with piperidine and morpholine and pyridine with piperidine and morpholine have been determined at 303.15 to 318.15K over the entire composition range. These data have been utilized to estimate the excess free volume, excess internal pressure, excess enthalpy, excess velocity, excess acoustic impedance and excess Gibb's free energy of activation of flow. The results obtained have been discussed in the light of existing theories of molecular interaction involved and chemical constitution of the liquid components. Analysis of these parameters indicates that there are intermolecular interactions among components of the binary mixtures that lead to possible hydrogen bond formation (of the type N...H-O) between unlike molecules.
