Product design and development needs a lot of relevant and background information at the initial stage itself and literature review is one of the initial and important process in the new product design (NPD) process. In NPD, patent analysis is an important part of literature review, since the patent documents represent a huge reservoir of most systematic and updated information about any particular technology and product. A systematic search on a trusted global patent database with proper analytical tools could be used as powerful R&D tool to not only identify the state-of-art but also to extract leads to solution for critical R&D problems. Therefore, a focused search on professional patent database was performed to extract most relevant patent documents for R&D work related to the chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) decontamination device. Semantic keyword search and IPC based search followed by a thorough screening and analysis of the searched documents resulted in useful patent documents. These patent documents disclosed various aspects related to CBRN decontamination device which helped in the design & development of a novel CBRN Decon device.

The word 'system' has become a common term, often applied to things which seem large or complex. It is so frequently encountered, that it can become quite difficult to decide what it means even within a defined context. When a manufacturer of washing powder, computer programmers, doctors, economists, astronomers and ecologists use the same word, 'system', in describing their interests, can anyone be sure what they mean'.' What is the connection between the solar system and the monetary system? Do the skeletal system and a computer system have anything in common? Traditionally, libraries have been evaluated in terms of input or available resources, such as number of volumes, number of staff members, size of facilities, and so on. More recently, there has been a vigorous movement toward evaluating libraries according to their output of performance. This latter evaluation focuses on what was accomplished with the library's resources. Many of the performance measures developed thus far have concentrated on such factors as library effectiveness, the library's impact on the community, and user satisfaction.

Learning is very important in the current knowledge based society. The economy of a country depends on the education level attained by the population of that country. Traditional learning cannot satisfy the various demands of the people. Due to the rapid growth in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) more and more innovative methods for accessing and sharing knowledge develop as the days pass. Government is keen on the integration of technology in educational programmes which are cost effective as well as time saving. E-learning or electronic learning is one such idea which is gaining momentum at a very fast pace. The new digital technologies used in e-learning are capable of meeting the user requirements at a high level. For all these a high bandwidth Internet connection is required. The National Knowledge Network (NKN) established by the government of India is mainly for sharing knowledge between research institutions. The e-learning facility has been started in Technical Information Resource centre (TIRC) of Naval Physical and Oceanographic Laboratory (NPOL) in 2014. This paper presents the different e-learning platforms which have been used through National Knowledge Network (NKN) to access e-learning programmes in NPOL. It also points out the increasing user demands for e-learning facility and the importance of librarians in the e-learning environment.

Nowadays internet has the most important priority in our society, since it had made many changes in our today's world. Using wireless communication in any public place or deciphering authentication in order to connect internet may lead to aggravation because of stumpy speed. A solution for this concern is LI-FI. This technology was sham by physicist Harald Haas. This technology allows transferring "data in the course of illumination "taking the fiber beyond fiber optics by distributing data through an LED conn that vary strength quicker than creature ogle can tag on. Li-Fi is part of the VLC system. We adopt three types of wireless communication technologies that are; Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Wi-Max in order to compare with Li-Fi. The intention of this paper is to cram the fundamentals and developments of Li-Fi by evaluating their main features, behaviors and communication standards in terms of various matrices including transmission time, frequency, nominal range, data coding efficiency, complexity and power consumption. A questionnaire was used to collect data from 150 students who formed the study sample from a study population of about 1800 graduate students in the Humanities and Social Sciences disciplines at the University. Data collected was analysed in simple statistics and presented in tables consisting of frequencies and percentages. The study revealed that electronic theses and dissertations and eBooks are the most frequently used items of the repository's collection. The study also showed that there is low usage rate of the repository by the respondents but they have positive attitudes towards the repository, and that the majority of the respondents learnt about the existence of the repository from a colleague rather than from a librarian. The findings indicated that, in order to enhance the usage of the repository by graduate students, there is a need for more awareness raising and advocacy programmes to be carried out by the library about the repository and its benefits to the academic community of the university.

The genesis of bibliographic databases can be - 5 - traced to the abstracting and indexing (A&I) periodicals. The Journal Des Scavans published in 1665 did contain abstracts of articles, but the formal abstracting journal began in 1820 (English) and in 1830 (German). The growth of primary periodicals required libraries to subscribe to A&I services to search for papers scattered in different journals as it was not possible to acquire all the primary periodical titles. The electronic versions of A&I periodicals started appearing in 1960s with emergence of database concept. The Chemical Titles and the MEDLARS are considered to be the earliest bibliographic databases. The Silver Platter is believed publish first biomedical CD-ROM database the MEDLINE with search facility - SPIRS. The growth and development of bibliographic databases has continued since then and enters the digital era to serve the users. The present paper theoretically examines EMBASE, PubMed and IndMed databases.

Ann Libr Inf Stud 2017, 64(1), 28-36.
An analysis of 801 papers published in the area of bibliometrics and scientometrics during 1995-2014 indicates a steep increase in the number of papers published by Indian researchers as compared to the number of papers published during 1970-1994. This indicates a growing interest of Indian scholars in scientometrics and bibliometrics. The paper provides several reasons for this steep increase. The main focus of research is on bibliometric assessment of India and other countries followed by cross national assessment and bibliometric analysis of individual journals. CSIR-NISTADS is the top producing institute contributing about one-third (31.4%) of the total output followed by the output of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre and CSIR-NISCAIR. The distribution of citation data indicates that about one-fifth (21.7%) papers remained uncited. The paper identifies journals in which these uncited papers were published. Only 15% papers were cited more than 20 times. Most of the prolific authors as well as highly cited authors were from the institutions belonging to the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research. Among all authors B.M. Gupta (CSIR-NISTADS) produced the highest number of papers, but the impact as seen in terms of citation per paper and relative citation impact, S. Arunachalam (MSSRF) topped the list.

Gastrointestinal Cancer Database (GICDB) is a repository of genetic association studies on gas-trointestinal cancer which allows researchers to interpret the risk factors of the disease accurately and provide new insights towards further work. GICDB has been developed to provide a platform to clinicians and researchers for the easy retrieval of appropriate information. All data are stored and managed in MySQL and web interface has been developed in ASP. Currently, the database in-tegrates information of 463 genes and 713 - 1 - miRNA; these genes are implicated in the diverse phases of various gastrointestinal (GI) cancers. GICDB is distinct from other databases in that: (i) it con-sists of information on genes and miRNAs involved in various GI cancers; (ii) data in GICDB are linked to other on-line resources such as Entrez, Ensemble, UniGene, Swiss-Prot and On-Line Mendelian Inheritance in Man; (iii) there is information on GI cancer-associated drugs retrieved from DrugBank, and (iv) it also integrates the information related to medicinal plants and their use in the treatment of different GI cancers with the structure of their chemical constituents. Unambi-guously this database would provide a platform to retrieve genuine information for researchers working on GI cancer. GICDB can be freely accessed at http://gidb.subdic-bioinformatics-nitrr.in/
