Studies related to authorship trend and collaborative researches are considered as an important facet of modern science. The paper presents a study of the authorship pattern and collaborative research in the field of Psychology. The required data collected from 141 Ph. D theses submitted to three universities during the period 1963 - 2003 are used as source material for the present investigation. The collected data included 22,565 citations, among these only journal citations are consider for the study, which were appended to the 141 theses. A total 14374 journal citations came out and were utilized for the present investigation. Predominance of multi-authored papers over single authored papers is seen. The degree of collaboration in Psychology is 0.53. USA defences first by producing 42.28% of cited journals. Majority of the cited journals of Psychology (94.54%) are in English language.

Ministries of Government of India have hosted their own websites across the World Wide Web so as to provide the world a view of the functioning of the Indian Government. It is essential these have to be up to the mark to represent the nation in an appropriate manner. But, despite this scale of involvement, there has been relatively little analysis of contents and visibility of these websites. This study highlights the importance of online government information in India and shows how far these websites have been able to make an impact on the society. The paper aims to examine the websites for their linking and content presence, and also to find out their web impact factor. The research methodology adopted for the study is investigative in nature. It includes observation of the selected websites from different points of view like number of webpages, web impact factor, and number of rich files. Data analyses and interpretation show that for each of the indicator used in this study, there were a different set of websites which achieved the topmost ranks. The findings of this study highlights the standing of these websites against the average values and show that different ministries excelled from different points of view.

In the digital age, it becomes both a challenging issue and an opportunity for libraries to provide electronic resources in networked environment. With networking technology of Internet it is possible to form any number of logical networks using the Net as the backbone. Library and information system networking in India have come into existence more than two decades ago. By utilizing the support of the regional and national level networking, libraries in India should corporately establish library consortia for offering and shared electronic resources. Many libraries like technical libraries have their own network existing within their own locations. These networks can be expanded to enhance the access to the information resources through collaborative partnerships, in the form consortia. This paper also discusses about the library networking and INDEST-AICTE consortium.

The most innovative online journals are maturing rapidly and distinctive new Knowledge Portals are emerging day by day. Foremost among the features of the portals is the hypertext link, popularized by the World Wide Web and which will form the basis of a new, highly integrated scholarly literature. Journal integration in this instance seeks to recognize, extend and exploit relationships at the level of journal content-the papers-while maintaining some of the familiar contexts. Links are a powerful tool for journal integration, most immediately in the form of citation linking. The paper defines what knowledge portals are and describes a new system, a link service, which is being developed to support novel and flexible linking mechanisms on the Web. The main aims and objectives of the study and the definitions of citation linking of journal articles and the importance of the citation linking are also discussed in this article with reference to the e-joumal Knowledge Portal of ACM. Various universities in India have designed specific courses for this purpose. Organizations like the NCERT, UGC, NCTE etc. have been launching schemes to enhance the ICT skills of teachers. However, in a big country like India with millions of teachers at different levels, it is indeed difficult to produce ICT-enabled teachers on a large scale within a short period. Book Review is an excellent tool both for publicity and collection development. In a country like India, where the regional language publishing is much significant, the local book review media plays an imperative role in this respect. This article reports the results of a quantitative suidy of the contents of reviews of Bengali titles appeared during the initial five and half years in the new millennium. Four Bengali newspapers with weekly book review pages, one reputed literary magazine in Bengali and a group of twenty little magazines of literary importance have been chosen for study. Reflections of titles and participation of publishers in. local book review media in terms of the comprehensiveness and currency of review, identification of marginalized and prolific titles and publishers in terms of single and multiple appearances including the patterns of reflections of subjects and price of the reviewed titles are covered in this study. The study reveals that the local book review media is lacking in the comprehensiveness and currency factors. Prolific appearances of titles and publishers in more than one source of review simultaneously are not usual phenomena in local book review media.

Books and magazines, friends/teachers and radio/television were the information channels most frequently used to satisfy their information needs. Newspapers and magazines were the most frequently read information sources and fictions were the most frequently borrowed documents. Reading room and book lending services were the most frequently used services. Concludes that since majority of the users are students and unemployed youth, public libraries need to enrich their information resource collection, provide access to internet and offer community-based services, including literacy programmes. Public libraries need to take proactive approach in motivating users to use these resources and services to enhance their competence level.

Investigate the status of core competencies in each librarian. In particular, to examine whether professional librarian is achieving or adopting core competencies and, if so, how they are integrated into the overall performance management system. Any library professional shall be asked to consider sets of skills, knowledge, abilities, and attributes in place in their organizations that may not be called core competencies but are, in fact, very similar. Conduct a self performance analysis by completing a performance information questionnaire. The primary objective is to make sure that what they experience and perform are the key behaviors necessary to perform their respective jobs. While competency development and implementation are not fast or easy processes as part of a larger performance management system, their use can help research libraries to recruit, hire, train, and retain valuable employees. In today's ever-changing and increasingly challenging environment, well-designed and implemented core competencies enable libraries and library staff to meet the needs of the tough user community. Taking the professional competency one step further, one can use the results of one's evaluation to identify in what competencies individuals need additional development or training. This will help to focus the training needs on the goals of the position and company and help employees develop toward the ultimate success of the organization. As core competencies apply to all professional librarians, when core competencies are introduced to library professionals, they are made aware of them through information sessions and other updates. They are subsequently published on staff Web sites and in library instruction book. Where core competencies are part of the annual evaluation, staffs are reminded of them during the performance appraisal process. New employees may learn of core competencies through job announcement and recruiting information, during job interviews, and certainly during post-hiring orientation. Core competencies afford: A platform for developing individual professional training and development strategy. More reliable and well-articulated performance expectations for library professionals performance appraisal. A better understanding by library staff of the skills, knowledge, abilities, and attributes valued by the organization.

Though literature on information and knowledge management is vast, there is much confusion concerning the meaning of these terms. According to the literature review, technology-oriented information management includes data management, information technology management and strategic information technology management. The main emphasis of these approaches is the effective and efficient use of information technology. In contrast, content-oriented approaches focus on information and its use. They can be distinguished in records management, provision of external information, human-centered information management, and information resources management. The reading of the literature on knowledge management reveals that this term is either used synonymously for information management or for the management of work practices with the goal of improving the generation of new knowledge and the sharing of existing knowledge. This article identifies various aspects that are embraced by the terms information and knowledge management. Thus, it should contribute to more terminological clarity and finally improve communication both in science and in professional practice. In this sense, the author hopes that this article will not only contribute to more terminological clarity but have further positive implications.
