All the special libraries of Kerala using electronic information resoruces were selected for the study. The data collected were analysed and inferences made based on standard statistical methods. Though the special libraries in Kerala have electronic information resources to some extent, resources and services are not reaching the users to the expected extent. The findings would assist special libraries in Kerala to develop strategies and policies that could make better use of electronic information resources and services.

A library system contains books, authors and users and many types of other material. For books, the location is identified by a Class Number, for author by an author's name and for users by a users' name. Author and book is a one-to-many relationship whereas library and book is a many-to-many relationship. A library can hold many copies of a book, and a book can appear in many libraries. A book and a library enter into a relationship grouping by sharing a copy. This relationship instance has a cost attribute, which states how much the library paid for the book. Patron-library and user- to- book are many-to-many relationships. When a user borrows a book, the transaction creates an instance of the patron and book relationship and attaches a due date attribute to it. Highlights the findings during the study on LIPS (Library Information Processing System) regarding the advancement of a conceptual framework for considering a fully integrated library automation system. Limits the discussion to E-R model and Object Orignated model, it is not asserted that what follows constitutes a complete framework, but rather an attempt to take a step towards the development of a framework. The motivation is both intellectual and pragmatic. At an intellectual level, there is curiosity about the nature of things and about how and why they work. At a pragmatic level, there is the incentive that a clearer theoretical understanding might bring about greater effectiveness in practice.

Need for implementing better security policies for curbing any misuse of library materials has been highlighted, since libraries conserve and preserve the knowledge base for its patrons. Not only are materials often "unintentionally removed" from libraries; materials taken out by accident are rarely returned, leaving them out of bounds for genuine users. Studies have repeatedly prooved that recruiting personnel for security purposes is not an advantageous proposition since besides being costly, it is not hundred percent foolproof due to human error. Thus the most widespread resposne to theft and mutilation of library materials among libraries has been the installation of an automatic security system. An automatic security system serves three main purposes, viz., acting as a deterrent, offering ready detection of intrusion, and notifying appropriate personnel making apprehension of the intruder possible. An electronic security system includes sensors, a control panel to interpret the report from the sensors and to decide whether or not to activate the reporting devices, and reporting devices. The most popular tag and alarm based security system technologies used in a majority of modern libraries such as Electromagnetic (EM), Radio Frequency (RF), Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) and Acousto-Magnetic (AM) technologies are presented with their basic principles, implementation in libraries along with benefits and limitations.

Data Mining, also known as knowledge discovery in database has been recognized as a promising new area for database research. Mining frequent item sets in transactional databases, binary transaction tables, time series databases and many other kinds of databases have been an active research topic over the past few years. Frequent access pattern is a special case of sequential pattern in an application database which helps to make effective decisions in the respective problem domain. Given a large database of hook transactions in the library, where each transaction consists of book-lid, name of the book, author, and other related fields, the problem is to mine the frequent access patterns of the user from the library databases. The outcome of the findings will help the management to take effective steps that will cater the needs of the user. Apriori and FP-growth[5] algorithms can mine the complete sets of frequent item sets. These two algorithms were implemented and the performance of the algorithms was studied. The result shows that FP-growth algorithm performs well compared to Apriori.

Thefindings of the study reveals that nearly 44.3% users of the Yercaud Public Library are qualified +2 and below. Also, it is revealed that 61% of the Library users are non-members. They prefer to go to Library after 3.30 p.m. and 87.8% of the users are satisfied with the existing Library working hours. The study also reveals that the users require internet facility in the Library.

Development of digital collections and proliferation of such content through global information explosion are changing the way information is used and managed. This rapidly changing technology is facilitating experimentation and evaluation of new models and, the shift to renting digitized contents has reduced the cost of maintaining the physical materials. Before starting the digitizing project, careful assessment of the intellectual content of the collection is essential. It is also necessary to understand how digitization will help core groups of users.

Deals with the investigation carried out to study the status of occupational stress being experienced by library personnel working in different categories of job and the variation of stress with sex. For this, 150 each of male and female employees working in libraries of different universities and institutions were selected. Among the selected personnel under each sex, 75 were Assistant Librarians (ALs) and professional Assistant (PAs) and the rest 75 were Semi-professional Assistant (SPAs). The Organizational Role Stress on the employees was studied by using the scale developed by Pareek (1981) which measures ten aspect of role stress. The result indicated that males, specially at the SPA level experience higher levels of stress than even the AL/PAs, Among female, the ALs/PAs experience the least stress. In both sexes ALs/PAs have lower stress than the SPA as indicated by the scores obtained through the scale.
