Although the biologic principles underlying successful clinical implant are still not completely understood, it is clear that both physical and chemical attributes of the material may influence the clinical outcome. Knowledge of the stresses and strains in an implant system and superstructure is still incomplete, but micromotion at the interface must be avoided for bone fixation. The composition and topography of the implant surface influence the cellular events at the bone-biomaterial interface. These surface parameters require definition to interpret the tissue response to a particular material. The most critical aspect of bio-compatibility is of course, dependent on the basic bulk and surface properties of the bio-materials. Thus clinician should consider all the available information on material and design before embarking on extensive clinical trial. These article summarizes the properties of different implant biomaterials available in the market.

The automatic classification of library document by using the computer is still far away from being implementation. But, the emergence of web and merging of different databases of different libraries paved anew way for classification of library document. The study only includes the web tools that can be used freelyor does not required user to "Sign Up" or "Log in". Sometime, some search in such database or tools willproduce null results. In such cases, the classifier should turn his hand to the next option available. In case ofdoubt of the validity of the classification number obtained from the online tools, the classifier should verifythe number by using the original DDC scheme. This paper will depicts such online tools that can be used forclassification of the library document with efficiency.

Visually impaired students need alternative format in braille, talking books and large prints to function like sighted students. Because few materials get converted into these formats, the availability and consequent use of alternative format for study and leisure by visually impaired students has been of concern. This study reveals the availability and use of alternative formats by visually impaired students in Nigerian Secondary Schools. The study is a survery and it purposively focused on southwestern, Nigeria. Using total enumeration technique, data were collected 123 students from six purposively selected secondary schools in southwestern Nigeria. A questionnaire having two rating scales on availability and utilisation of alternative format with reliability scores of a = 0.77 and a = 0.73 respectively were used. 104 (84.5%) of the instrument was correctly admistered. The study found, that braille (77%), talking books/tape recordings( 65.4%) are not readily availabile while large prints (96.2%) are not available. Braille is the most frequently used on dailly basis (91.3%) followed by talking books (34. 6%) while large prints are not used. There was no significant positive relationships between alternative formats availability and its utilisation in the selected libraries. The study recommends increased transcription of information materials into alternative formats for the students, adequate funding from government and donors and the building of a balanced collection of alternative formats in the school libraries.

Management system is becoming systematic and simpler day by day with the application of computer aided software and internet. In this scenario, Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) around the world are developing Higher Education Management Information System (HEMIS). In some countries, it is developing both at institute and national level. In spite of this, some projects could not reach their desired target due to poor project planning. Failure rate of such projects is high particularly in developing countries. This is perhaps the planning of such projects which requires combination of management and IT knowledge and also the knowledge of prevailing education management system of the institution or the country. This article aims to provide concise and key considerations in planning a HEMIS project. Keeping the management issue during implementation and operation phase under eye, planning considerations of HEMIS is depicted in this article. Hopefully, this article will add some additional information to the project planners.

In addition to the theoretical aspects of the law, the review covers papers dealing with the application of the law in the various subject fields. Applicability of Bradford's law on various methods has been tested. The journal distribution pattern of the doctoral theses does not confirm the Bradford's distribution pattern. The Bradford multipliers are calculated, and the law was found to be applicable with the value of k as 2.66. The distribution of the journals in three zones done and the number of references in each zone is then calculated. The applicability of Leim-kuhler model is also tested with the present data. The Bradford's law of scattering doesn't follow the journal distribution pattern.

Collnet J Scientomet Inf Mgmt 2010, 4(2), 21-34.
Technological capability at the national/firm level provides competitive advantage and is intrinsic to the 'catch up' process. However, it is difficult to capture 'properly' technological capability attained by a country in a particular industry/sector and gauge future trends; particularly so for a country in transition. Present paper addresses this issue. We argue that in high technology sectors, patents can provide relevant indications. Based on this argument, we analyse India's patenting activity in biotechnology (a country epitomising developing economies). Global patenting trends shows core activity areas and changing dynamics. In addition comparison with BRIC countries assess India's activity in proper perspective. Analysis was undertaken for 'biotechnology domain' and individual technology classes that constitute this domain. To assess role of different organisational categories in technology creation; patenting activity was delineated under Indian organisations, foreign R&D centres and resident individuals. Along with trend, types of actors involved, collaboration, linkages with other industries, etc were investigated. The Study shows that India is developing technological capability both in terms of depth and breadth. However, in comparison to global landscape, it is still in infancy. We conclude that in spite of limitations, novel indications derived from patent statistics is a good indication of measuring a country's technological capability.

Computer programming is one of the basic subjects for all the first year B Tech courses and practice is the most Important aspects in learning the computer programming. With the substantiaiincrease in the number of students intake leading to large class sizes, it is fortunate that the human grading of programming assignments in the laboratory sessions, are tedious and error prone task. The only potential solution to this inevitable problem is to automate the assessment process. So far, several tools have been developed both in the field of academy and commercial. As on date, dynamic, static and program matching are the specific approaches available and the existing tools adopt either one or a combination of two approaches with a feasible solution to assess simple and straightforward programs. This paper discusses the implementation of a hybrid method using all three approaches for assessing the students'program automatically. It includes all the vital strategies needed to assess the students' program and assign marks with different credence.

Information Literacy has become the basic need for every human irrespective of their field, age, geographical locations, behaviorisms, etc. The aim of this study is to evaluate the growth pattern involving trend of growth, nature of actual growth through Relative Growth Rate, Doubling Time, and the respective growth model. The expected approximate growth is also forecasted. Data was collected from the ISI Web of Science bibliographic database for the period 1998 to 2009 and retrieved 2100 hits. The study reveals that the Relative Growth Rate R(P) is inversely proportional to Doubling Time Dt(P). There exists steady growth from 1998 to 2008, but declined in the year 2009. This slight decline leads to logistic growth model. The approximate expected growth has also been calculated using mathematical formula.

The research on bioethics by developing countries shows a significant growth. The objective of this study is to explore the scientometric analysis on bioethics literature from People's Republic of China, since bioethics began to emerge in the late 1980s in China, which was borrowed and introduced from western countries. This study analyzes the PubMed database from 1999 to 2008. The literature growth analysis results in exponential growth and the yearly growth is about 38.3%. The Relative Growth Rate increases with the decrease in Doubling Time and there exists no evidence for saturation in the growth. The additional publication type designations are also analyzed. The Research Support, Non-U.S. Gov't (37.18%), stands first and this predicts that, the research is being supported and conducted by several cooperating institutions from various other countries. It is found that English is the most predominant language used which shares to the maximum of 82%. Chinese language is made use of by 17% articles. In the subject analysis the Chinese concentrate first on human bioethics. Citespace visualization mapping network on institutions' contribution confirms that National Research Institute for Family Planning and School of Nursing from China occupies first position. It is concluded that China may concentrate more on bioethics research since the literature output is 0.13% out of World's total bioethics productivity which is very less.

As per the international survey on literature of the mammograms image database the mammograms have been grouped under only three categories like, fatty, glandular and dense. In our proposed method these have been further classified based on some statistical features into the five classes as uncompressed fatty, fatty, high density, dense, and low dense. This classification would help a radiologist to determine the breast anatomy affected due to Estrogen secretion. In this method the specified statistical features extracted are significantly the important texture features of breast tissue. Based on these features of a digital mammogram, an attempt has been made to classify the breast tissue in to five basic categories like uncompressed fatty, fatty, high density, dense, and low dense. This categorization would help a radiologist to detect a normal breast from a cancer-affected breast so as to proceed with further investigation. The proposed method has two steps one is preprocessing where the boundary errors will be removed successfully using new morphological operations. The second is by evaluating the statistical parameters to classify and to find abnormality in breast Images. The database of mammograms of different categories, have been selected for the testing of performance of the proposed algorithm. The proposed method would help a radiologist in detection of changes in breast tissues.

In this digital era, web based products occur more, the usage of those products is not up to the mark. Effective utilization of web based information retrieval tool has to be enhanced in the user community. Though search engines are often used for information retrieval (IR) from the World Wide Web (WWW), current search engine technology seems obsolete. The quality of query results from today's search engines is unacceptable, creating a demand for new information search and retrieval techniques. The conventional IR methods often lack the flexibility to adapt to changes in the content of the WWW. This paper aims to explain the web based information retrieval system to build new and effective research tools for the users to access, explore and use information on the web, which may lead to improved research productivity and quality.

Conventional search techniques for searching a database follow Boolean logic. When a database search is made with a given set of keywords, a minor variation in the keyword due to difference in spelling standard, typographical error or difference in inflection of the same stem, results in failure in getting records from the database. This situation demands a special kind of search technique, which should take into account approximation along with exactness. Fuzzy sets are more appropriate to represent imprecise information and matching based on it is better suited to process it. As fuzzy logic is an extension of conventional logic; it handles the concept of partial truth along with true and false. Fuzzy logic more closely follows the way humans think and helps to handle real world complelxities more efficiently. Paper a new information retrieval support technique used for database search, using fuzzy based matching and is expected to significantly enhance searching benefits over conventional approaches.
