Study the possibility of using the Horvitz-Thompson (HT) estimator from a sample collected by the Rao-Hartley-Cochran (RHC) scheme. Derived expressions for several alternative unbiased variance estimators of the estimators given by RHC and HT for estimating a population total. For a real life problem, on finding well correlated auxiliary variate values, we consider selecting the first stage units by the RHC scheme and the second stage units by equal probabilities without replacement. Using real data, we compare the relative accuracies in estimation by dint of simulation, using the classical and the new variance estimators. Our criteria for comparison are the actual coverage percentage (ACP) and the average coefficient of variation (ACV). We demonstrate that as against the RHC estimator, the HT estimator is a viable contender in estimation from an RHC sample.

Assuming a Gaussian distribution for the background white noise or clutter, the problem reduces to selecting from k (≥ 2) normal populations the one with the largest value of the absolute mean. Assuming unknown means and a common unknown variance, we proceed under Bechhofer's 1954 indifference-zone formulation. Since the common variance is unknown, a single-stage procedure guaranteeing a preassigned level of the minimum probability of correct selection (PCS) would not exist. We propose a two-stage selection methodology whose minimum PCS meets the minimum PCS requirement up to the second-order term with respect to the difference of the absolute means. The roles of the proposed approximation are examined both via exact computations and simulations. A realistic example on passive acoustic sonar detection of marine mammals (Abraham 2004) is included with data analyses.

Due to this type of injection velocity distribution, the flow becomes three-dimensional one. Approximate solutions have been derived for the velocity and the temperature field's as well as skin-frictions and the rate of heat transfer using the series expansion. The results of main flow fluid velocity (u) and the amplitude of the perturbed part of the skin friction (F₁) are discussed extensively due to cooling (G > 0) and heating (G < 0) of the plate.

An attempt has been made to improve upon the Hansen-Hurwitz (1943) estimator based on PPSWR sampling scheme through Rao-Blackwellisation. In order to derive the sampling variance of the improved estimator obtained by Rao-Blackwellisation, it is of interest to derive the probability distribution of the number of distinct units in the sample drawn according to PPSWR sampling scheme, as the improved estimator is based solely on the distinct units in the sample. It has been possible to write down the exact distribution of the number of distinct units in the sample drawn by PPSWR sampling scheme in a closed form. Assuming a super-population model, the model-expected design-variance of the improved estimator is worked out and it is compared with that of the Hansen-Hurwitz estimator under the same super-population model. The percentage gain in efficiency in using the improved estimator over the Hansen-Hurwitz estimator is worked out for certain selected values of the model parameters.

The steepening of a normal compression wave into a shock in a homentropic flow field is understood well through the method of characteristics. In a non-homentropic flow field, however, shock formation from a compression wave is more complex. The effects of entropy (or sound speed) gradients on a shock formation from a compression wave are determined using a wave front expansion in Cartesian and in spherical polar coordinates in magnetic field. The latter problem has application to the intense energy focusing of sonoluminescence, particularly when applied to a spherically collapsing gas. The principal result is an analytical criterion for the time and place of shock formation, for a wave propagating into a magnetic field of smoothly varying entropy.

We present the inequalities of n-dimensional Kahlerian manifold and n-dimensional compact Kahlerian manifold. We utilize the properties of n-dimensional Kahlerian manifold to deduct 2-dimensional Kahlerian manifold as a particular case. We provide a brief description of spectrum of compact Kahlerian manifold with almost complex structure and metric tensor. Lastly, the properties of spectrum are employed to establish the relationship between compact Kahlerian manifold and constant holomorphic sectional curvature, which is presented in form of theorems.

Acceptance sampling plans are practical tools for quality assurance applications involving quality contract on product orders. The sampling plans provide the vendor and buyer decision rules for product acceptance to meet the preset product quality requirement. Quality Decision Region (QDR) indexed plan provides a method of designing sampling plan based on range of quality instead of point wise description of quality. The QDR indexed plan has been experimented on designing single sampling plan which provides higher probability of acceptance compared with (AQL, LQL) indexed plan. Quality Decision Region (QDR) concept possesses wide potential applicability in industry insuring a higher standard of quality attainment. This paper provides a new procedure for designing a Single Sampling Plan indexed through Quality Decision Region (d₁) involving Limiting Quality Level (LQL). New operating ratios are introduced to develop the sampling plan.

The p-median problem is location-allocation problem that takes into account the average (total) distance between demand points and facility. The practical utility of the problem is obvious by the number of solutions developed in the literature. A formulation is presented and computational experience is offered. Lexi-search algorithm can be used effectively, which takes care of simple and combinatorial structure of the p-median problem. For this problem a computer programme is developed for the algorithm and is tested. It is observed that it takes less time for solving fairly higher dimension problems also. For this problem the definition, notation and algorithm are illustrated with the help of a numerical example.

Introduced the effects of convection and electric field load parameter (Re) on a steady MHD laminar fully develop flow of an electrically conducting viscous fluid passing through a channel bounded by a highly permeable bed with impermeable bottom and a moving rigid wall, in the presence of buoyancy force. Variation of velocity and temperature fields for different values of electric field load parameter, magnetic and permeability parameters have been studied. The skin friction and the rate of heat transfer at the porous interface have also been calculated.
