Int J appl Res Inf Technol Comput 2014, 5(1), 1-13.
Usually it is observed that Bio-physical systems or Bio-chemical systems are many a time based on nanoscale phenomenon in different host environments, which involve many particles can often not be solved explicitly. Instead a physicist, biologist or a chemist has to rely either on approximate or numerical methods. For a certain type of systems, called integrable in nature, there exist particular mathematical structures and symmetries which facilitate the exact and explicit description. Most integrable systems, we come across are low-dimensional, for instance, a one-dimensional chain of coupled atoms in DNA molecular system with a particular direction or exist as a vector in the environment. This theoretical research paper aims at bringing one of the pioneering 'Reaction-Diffusion 'aspects of the DNA-plasma material system based on an integrable lattice model approach utilizing quantized functional algebras, to disseminate the new developments, initiate novel computational and design paradigms.

Retrieval of meaningful and relevant information from any data repository has always been a major challenge of any Information Retrieval system from the early ages of computing. Earliest Information Retrieval systems were designed for Libraries and for internal search of big organizations. Last 20 years has seen a drastic change of paradigm shift of Information Retrieval systems from stand-alone system to online systems. More and more information of Commercial organizations, Academic and research Institutions are going online which in turns is responsible for an exponential growth of users seeking this online information. Searching meaningful and relevant information from a sea of this unstructured, inconsistent and fast changing data is a challenging task for today's Information Retrieval systems. The complexity of this challenge is further increased by the users who are most of the time uncertain about his/her own information need. Fuzzy Logic has established itself as one of the main methodologies to deal with such kind of uncertainty. This short survey paper is an attempt to find some challenges of Information Retrieval system in today's scenario and the use of fuzzy methodologies in today's Information Retrieval systems.

Paper studies the trends in acquisition of e-resources vis-a-vis their print counterparts, identifies the e-resources being subscribed by Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) libraries at Kharagpur, Bombay, Madras, Delhi, Kanpur, Guwahati and Roorkee either individually or through a consortium, and analyzes the usage of these resources during 2004-11. The study also compiles a union list of all e-resources accessible at IIT Libraries. Data were collected by personal visits, interviews, and using a questionnaire. Web sites and annual reports of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, IITs and INDEST-AICTE Consortium were also scanned to supplement the above information. COUNTER compliant data as provided by the publishers were used to study the usage. Data analysis revealed that IIT libraries spend a significantly large proportion of their budgets to acquire e-resources. There is a clear shift in the collection development policies of these libraries where e-resources have become a vital part of their core collections. E-resources in all IITs are being heavily used as the number of downloads have increased from 32,33,818 to 76,17,691 articles reflecting a growth of 135% over a period of 8 years.

Basic implication of a subject in the context of library and information science is outlined here. It is pointed out that the purview of library and information science mostly reckons any subject in the form of some either assigned or derived terms or keywords. The basic concepts of words as per the scope of linguistics are also provided. Different modes of formation of complex and compound subjects as enunciated by Ranganathan are described. The modes of formation of compound words as depicted in linguistics have been described and compared with different modes of formation of complex and compound subjects as portrayed by Ranganathan, Neelameghan, Seetharama and Sen. It has been observed that there are similarities between modes of formation of words and subjects. As similarities are observed at the very basic foundation level between words and subjects, therefore it has been concluded that there may be some similarities of intrinsic properties between them. The specific words belonging to a particular subject domain or subject-specific words that are commonly known as keywords may thus be recognized as eventual denomination or fundamental building block of the concerned subject. The keywords may thus be looked upon as molecule of a subject from linguistic viewpoint.

Reported damageto the ozone layer in 1985 was a significant milestone in Antarctic science research. The research work played a significant role in generating international socio-political debate on this great environmental crisis. This article aims to reconstruct the intellectual developments in the field and identify important scientific events which contributed to the formulation of the world's most successful multilateral treaty, the Montreal Protocol. The dynamics of the research field was mapped using a newly developed indicator - weighted direct citations (WDC). The WDC value indicates intellectual closeness between two citations in terms of co-citations and shared references. Direct citations were weighted with shared references and co-citations to derive WDC values. An attempt was made to decompose the citation network of articles to identify significant activity layers. The work of J. C. Farman et al. (1985) and S. Solomon (1986), which are the top two most cited significant papers in the subject accounts for top WDC values jointly

Internet plays a drastic role in part of communication nowadays but in e-mail, spam is the major problem. Email spam is unwanted, inappropriate or no longer wanted mails also known as junk email. To eliminate these spam mails, spam filtering methods are implemented using classification algorithms. Among various algorithms, Support Vector Machine (SVM) is used as an effective classifier for spam classification by various researchers. But, the accuracy level is not up to notable level so further. To improve the accuracy, Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI) is used as feature extraction method to select the suitable feature space. The hybrid model of spam mail classification can provide the effective results. The Ling spam email corpus is used as datasets for the experimentation. The performance of the system is evaluated using measures such as recall, precision and overall accuracy.

Although the provision of facilities and staffing at Fiji National University (FNU) Libraries appear to be adequate, there seems to be less emphasis on quality service delivery in the customers' eyes. This study therefore aimed to establish service quality determinants, which may have good relationship with customer satisfaction in FNU libraries. Invention of quality determinants were derived upon a comprehensive methodology consisting of three methods. First, 68 determinants were generated through the existing literature, and then these determinants were reviewed by focus groups and 39 determinants were identified as applicable determinants in FNU libraries. In addition to that 7 determinants were found by focus group discussions which are very specific to the FNU and which cannot be found from the prevailing literature. The focus groups were used as the key method for selecting the appropriate determinants. Finally, the content and face validity of these determinants were evaluated by a panel of experts to identify the most appropriate determinants and produced 37 determinants in the FNU library system. This study provides a useful device as a reference tool for library professionals and policy makers to gauge the levels of overall user satisfaction and setting up a quality assurance scheme in Fijian university libraries.

The central purpose of this paper is to explore and evaluate users' experience of service performance of four private university libraries in Bangladesh. For primary data collection, the study used a 26-item instrument based on five dimensional modified version of SERVQUAL scale. Respondents indicated their degree of opinions on a 7-point Likert-type scale in the three column format. SERVPERF scale (perceptions scores) was applied to explore the service performance. To evaluate existing service performance, the study develops a Service Performance Matrix (SPM) using SERVPERF scale. Result shows that services of IUB library at a large scale (twenty items) and EWU library at a limited scale (three items) are perceived with better performance. The other service items of these university libraries are seeking immediate improvement, which is equally implied for the whole service items of NSU and BRACU libraries. The SPM method used in this study may acts as a more comprehensive performance assessment tool for the librarians to determine the level of service performance, and to maintain the order of improvement priorities for the service items.

The choice of a career is very essential in learner's academic endeavour. This study investigated the academic profile and career choice of fresh undergraduates of LIS(Library and Information Science) in a Nigerian University of Education. The study sought to find out the academic profile and the preferred course chosen by the undergraduates, as well as the perception of the undergraduates about LIS. A total of 120 newly admitted undergraduates in the Department of LIS, Tai Solarin University of Education, (TASUED) Nigeria were purposively chosen. Data was gathered using an instrument tagged Perception of New Entrants about LIS/Profession(PERNELIS). All questionnaires administered were returned and found useful for the study. The entry academic profile indicated that 113(94.3%) and 109(93.4%) of the undergraduates had at least a credit or more in the mandatory subjects i.e., English and mathematics. Also, the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination(UTME) score revealed that most of the undergraduates had above 200 i.e. 88(72.5%) over a total score of 400 while the Post-UTME results indicated that majority or 70(58.3%) of the undergraduates had between 13-25 on an overall scale of 100. Furthermore, the study found out that undergraduates were influenced to study LIS based on their interest(55.0%) hence 40(33.3%) and 55(45.8%) undergraduates choose the course LIS as their first and second choices respectively. The study therefore recommends sustained and continuous awareness about LIS in order to ascertain that LIS schools are not dumping ground for low intelligent quotient (IQ) undergraduates.

Rural people in northern states of Nigeria are those whose main occupation is subsistence farming. They exhibit a relatively higher rate of poverty than their counterparts in the urban areas. Therefore, they need information that can empower them to fight poverty and other social vices. The objective of the study was to identify the types of information required, channels available and used to disseminate information to the rural people. Two research questions were raised and answered, and one null hypothesis was formulated and tested using chi-square. Descriptive research method was used and questionnaire was the instrument used to gather data. The study revealed that the information required by rural people in northern states of Nigeria was information on agriculture, bank loans, poverty alleviation programmes and any other information that can raise their socio-economic status. It further revealed that the channels available and used for the dissemination of the information were not adequate. It was suggested among other things, community information centres (CICs) for rural people be established and that state public libraries should use the CICs to disseminate information through the Local Government Information Units.

Impact Factor (IF) is a popular bibliometircs and scientometrics tool for assessing the performance of scholarly journals. But there are many national journals from developing and under developing countries which are not indexed by SCI and are without IF. National journals play a vital role for a country. It is suggested that the performance of a journal cannot be measured by a single indicator. Diffusion of information is a basic notion of publications and citations. So diffusion study has been used to measure the influence of a journal. In this study two Indian non-SCI medical journals, viz., Indian Journal of Cancer and Journal of Communicable Diseases were selected for diffusion measure. New JDF and equivalent IF is calculated using citations data. Data is collected from Elsevier's SCOPUS database for the period of 2001-2010. It is found that there is improvement in Diffusion factors for both journals, but there is significant rise for Indian Journal of Cancer. As Journal of Communicable Disease is cited by more number of countries than Indian Journal of Cancer, so the former is more international in nature. Generally they have published papers mostly from India, but number of foreign authored papers has been increased in IJC. Open access of IJC may be one of the factors for better performance.

Biosci Biotechnol Res Asia 2013, 10(1), 85-8.
Research institutions are organizations that are traditionally composed of a number of researchers either working independently or as part of small clusters (such as research groups) within the institute. While there are a number of methods to evaluate the contribution of individuals to the overall research productivity of an institute, these methods tend to be relatively static, and may fail to accurately represent the nature of the institution. This study describes the application of a well established biological interaction program, Cytoscape, to allow visualization of the interaction of the individual researchers and show that by weighting the information with collaborative link strengths and output data or citation data, it is able to produce a picture of the `research landscape' of an institution. The data can be easily updated and can provide a continual picture of the activity of a research institute or other organization. In particular this system is adaptable to use without subscription to potentially expensive databases which may be unavailable to workers in smaller institutions or those in developing nations.

Rapid technological developments, shorter product life cycle, greater expectations of customers and globalization lead to many consistent developments in the business operations. An effective information system is needed to cope with the changes in the environment. SMEs in India should understand the facts and benefits flowing from the linkage between the implementation of Information Systems (IS) and the Performance of Firms. The present study was conducted among the SMEs in Madurai District. The findings of the study reveal that there is a direct influence of system quality, information quality and service quality of IS on the users 'satisfaction which has a direct influence on the firms' performance. The indirect influence i.e., through users' satisfaction, was higher than the direct influence of all qualities in IS. Hence the study suggests that the quality of IS should focus on the users' satisfaction at first, so that it will generate the firm's performance automatically.

Lotka's Law has always been attracting much attention in academia ever since its appearance and its applicability in literature has already gained verification. On the basic of former studies, this paper works at re-testing the applicability of Lotka's Law according to the massive data of the distribution of inventor productivity in patent literature. The result proves that Lotka's Law shows favourable applicability in patent literature. Meanwhile, it reveals that power-law distribution which dominates the three basic laws of literature metrology is also applicable to patent documents.

This paper aims to examining the effects of knowledge networks modularity on the utility of inventions at industrial level empirically. Based on USP-TO semiconductor-related patent data from 1976 to 2000, it first measures the modularity of knowledge networks and utility of inventions quantitatively, and then examines the relation between modularity and utility of inventions using Granger causality test. It is found that a long-term and stationary relationship between knowledge network modularity and the utility of innovation in the semiconductor industry and knowledge network modularity has a positive effect on the utility of inventions.

This report is a study on the use of online databases in the order of priority and ranking of databases by the faculty and research scholars of - University of Hyderabad (UOH) and Osmania University (OU) both located in Hyderabad, India. The findings indicate that the user communities of both the universities are familiar with the use of e-resources. 67.5% of UOH users and 64.4% of OU users agree that e-resources provide information for their research work without visiting the libraries. Highly used online database in both universities put together are found to be Science Direct. The important databases other than Science Direct are Scifinder, SCOPUS, Science Online, Biological Abstracts, American Chemical Society etc. with little variation in use in the two universities. The data bases which are less used are Mathscinet, Taylor and: Francis, AIP, RSC, Blackwell Synergy, J-Gate etc. Extent of University wise use of online databases is described. Similarly extent of university wise non-use has also been worked out. ANOVA test for all the online database has been done. But the variations in their use are depicted and it is tested with statistical ANOVA one way test to know the mean ranking and also to know the consistency in their use. Recommendations to improve the use of online database in the university libraries are suggested.

This paper examines the validity of Lotka's law to authorship distribution on the subject Area "LAW". In the process, we chose to consider the articles published under Columbia Law Review (CLR) since from its inception i.e. during 1901-2012 for the study. Lotka's law constituting the most significant bibliometric law is applied and tested using various methods like Sen's Method, Pao's Method, and Maximum Likelihood Method and finally verified through Kolmogorov-Smirnov Test. The Hypotheses is thus tested with these measures for its validity and it is found that the values of exponent n and constant c obtained through Pao's Method is par with the observed values and hence, the Pao's method is suitable to adopt, to test, the validity of Lotka's Law for the Legal Research Area with Scholarly content published in the Columbia Law Review.
