Indian National Food Security Programme, with a goal to provide highly subsidized food grains to more than 800 million people in every nook and corner of the vast country, faces strategic challenges related to production, procurement, storage, transportation, distribution, finance, and organization. While the production issues are related to low yield, small farm size, and lack of financial support, the procurement process is skewed and lacks integration with the markets. The storage facilities are inadequate and are non-optimally located. Transportation facilities lack coordination leading to multiple loading and unloading of the food grains. Leakage and improper distribution of food grains are also big challenges. Very high subsidy, inefficient processes, and a large work force have brought to the fore the question of financial viability of the programme. There are also organizational issues related to payment disparity and resistance to labor reforms. The paper has also given a framework for efficient implementation of the programme using cloud system with effective procurement and stock management policy measures.

The Government thinks about the importance of agricultural sector for strengthening the developing Indian economy. As majority of the population nearly 65 percent depends up on agricultural and its allied sector, for their sustainable livelihood. The role of agricultural sector cannot be replaced by any others. By concerning the importance of agricultural sector, the GOI launched electronic National Agriculture Market (eNAM) portal on April 15, 2016. The main theme of eNAM Portal is to link the domestic markets over the states which creates pan-India market platform for the farmer to sale his farm produce anywhere in the country by overcoming the state barriers. eNAM provides a single window service for all APMC related information and services; it is also trading 90 different commodities. NAM is a “virtual” market but it has a physical market (Mandi) at the back end. And it mainly focuses on to get better price for their farm produce. The government have been reached of linking total 585 mandis on the eNAM platform as on 23rd march, 2018. As on now 73.50 lakh farmers, 1.01 lakh trader’s and 53163 middlemen/arhatias were registered. Through eNAM 1.52 MT of produce was traded. The total value of traded produce was Rs. 36, 275 Crores. The drawback regarding eNAM is the synergy of network organization and market services. eNAM offers the opportunity to access a larger national market for secondary trading. Therefore the internet based eNAM is aimed at integrating the mandis to help both farmers and buyer by providing them data of produce available, its quality and the price being offered at bidding markets and thus, it ensures transparency in buying and selling of farmer’s produce across the country.

Customer choice of bank is an important element of banking strategy in today’s increasingly competitive environment. Bank management must identify and improve upon factors that can increase customer retention. To plan a suitable marketing strategy, to keep existing customers and for attracting new customers, commercial banks need to identify the criteria on which customers determine their bank selection decision. Hence, the purpose of this study is to examine the significance of bank selection criteria and to present the most determinant factor influencing customers in respect of selecting a bank by customer in Ethiopia. Using responses given by 101 customers, both quantitative and qualitative approach is employed in the analysis. Six factors including 38 attributes on 5 point Likert scale were used to determine the criteria of selecting bank. A non-probability convenience sampling was used and data was factor analyzed to reduce the number of total variables in to manageable way. The findings revealed that the major factors determining customers’ bank selection are: the speed of services, the extent of the branch network, the location of branches, and Forex resources. On the reverse price, innovation, financial performance, e-banking are the least factors that customers consider when they make a bank selection. Given this findings, it is recommended that there should be frequent marketing research by the banks to monitor and evaluate the ever changing customer perspectives in order to develop products or services to meet the current tastes of their customers.

Sound educational system is sine-qua-non for any nation that wants to attain high level of economic awareness. Functional education, as a solution based and society/industry driven education is un-disguisedly what the nation needs for transition into the knowledge based economy. It has been appreciated that Technical/vocat5ional education is the missing link in the nation’s educational system. The dearth of skilled manpower consequent on this has obvious negative implications on the critical sectors of the economy, hence the deplorable state of the Nigerian economy. In view of this, Technical/vocational education should be prioritized to provide the citizens with lifelong/employable skills for their survival and for the nation to attain accelerated economic development/growth. The findings showed that while Technical and Vocational Education (TVE) has continued to hold sway in industrialized/emerging economies, where it has continued to propel national development, phenomenal economic growth, Nigeria has neglected it. Against this backdrop, therefore it is suggested that Technical/vocational education needs to be strategically repositioned to accelerate meaningful economic development/growth and more importantly to fast track the nation in global reckoning.

Reinforced concrete (RC) beams are one of the main load bearing structural elements in buildings. These elements suffer from distress, primarily cracks, due to many reasons resulting into degradation of stiffness and strength. The modal curvature approach is a very good technique in damage identification in steel and RC beams. This study provides a critical review on the different approaches for damage prediction. The current state of the knowledge is presented and the different models which have been proposed in the past for damage identification on structural systems are discussed. In this paper, a technique for damage identification and assessment of RC beams is proposed which makes use of vibration data to compute the Curvature Damage Factor (CDF). To detect damage progression, simply-supported RC beams were subjected to an incrementally increasing static four point loading in steps till ultimate failure. After each load step, vibration measurements were performed using wireless sensors mounted at critical locations. The experimental crack pattern and results of modal curvature were compared. The results show that this approach is efficient for damage identification of reinforced concrete beams which exhibit high non-linear behavior.

Aluminium alloy LM6 is used for manufacturing of components in automobile and marine applications. However, LM6 alloying elements pose challenges to manufacturing industry because they cause difficulty while machining, and rapid tool wear occurs due to the presence of high silicon content. Moreover LM6 strength falls down rapidly at elevated temperatures. In view of the above fact, engineers have focused their research on LM6 by adding suitable reinforcement particulates to develop metal matrix composites with LM6 as matrix. This research work discusses the method of optimising the technological data like machining-velocity, feed per revolution, machining-depth and insert nose radius in order to achieve better surface for LM6. It also investigates the influence of machining variables on surface roughness and the machinability measures such as resultant force, specific cutting pressure and co-efficient of friction between work-piece and tool. The study reveals that 0.8 mm nose radius insert gives better result and moreover interactions of feed per revolution and machining-depth have a noteworthy influence on surface finish. The optimal turning process variables are in close conformity with experimental results. The machinability measure analyses are useful in the prediction of machining performance as it more sensitive in reflecting the machining performance.

Resistance spot welding is a widely used sheet metal joining process in automobile and rail car manufacturing industries. One of the most important quality characteristics of a spot welded joint is its tensile shear strength, as it is crucial in improving the crashworthiness of the vehicle. Amount of indentation made by the electrode on the surface of the sheet during spot welding, is another quality characteristic that needs to be minimized, to improve the surface finish and aesthetic value. Ensuring maximum strength of the spot weld joint, while keeping indentation at the minimum level is one of the major challenges in spot welding. In this work, multi-objective Taguchi method has been applied for optimization of various input parameters in resistance spot welding of AISI 409M ferritic stainless steel sheets, to maximize the tensile shear strength of the weld joint and minimize the surface indentation simultaneously. Furthermore, a linear response surface model has been developed to correlate tensile shear strength and indentation values with process parameters. The optimum values of control parameters were 11.5 KA for current, 14 cycles for weld time and 3.5 KN for electrode force. Current was found to be the most influential parameter affecting tensile shear strength and indentation. Results of the optimization process were validated by confirmation test.

Heavy Industry is an industry that involves one or more characteristics such as Large and Heavy Products; Large or Heavy Equipment and facilities; or Complex and Numerous Processes. Outsourcing in heavy industry sector has gained a strategic importance in order to survive in the cost and quality conscious environment. In order to meet the customer demand promptly, any industry must have a healthy and competent supplier base. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate and rank the criteria affecting the performance of the suppliers of a Heavy Industry (BHEL, Tiruchirappalli) by using Multi Criteria Decision Making Tool (MCDM) – Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP). The Criteria and Sub Criteria affecting the supplier performance have been decided by a team of experts from the industry and through literature study. AHP derives the relative weights of the criteria using pairwise comparison between criteria in a hierarchical system. It also provides a clear picture to the industry about the importance of various factors affecting the performance of the suppliers. This research helps the industry and its suppliers to identify the factors in which they need to strengthen in order to improve their performance.

There has recently been an increase in lavender plantations in Turkey. More people are interested in lavender farming for essential oil production and rural tourism, and it brings many questions regarding production and marketing. Turkey is traditionally a medical and aromatic plant and essential oil producing country but has a corner in the world market only for rose oil, jasmine oil and oregano oil. Current interest in lavender production in the country has exposed a need to understand and analyse the world lavender oil markets. However, there is an information shortage and no regular dataset for world lavender oil production and trade. This study aims to consolidate information, data and expertise in order to understand and conduct a qualitative analysis of dynamics of lavender oil prices and actors in the world markets. In Turkey, almost all lavender production is from Lavandula intermedia (lavandin), as is the majority of world lavender production. Although the quantity of essential oil of lavandin traded is five times more than L. angustifolia (true lavender) oil, the most qualified and sought after lavender oil is produced from L. angustifolia. The largest lavender oil suppliers in the world are Bulgaria, France and China, and there are also many other countries which have recently increased their production. World lavender oil supply has tended to increase based on increases in plantation in Bulgaria, but quantity and quality depend on weather conditions. Demand for lavender oil, as the main driver for price determination, does not vary a lot from one year to another. However, it is expected that increases in consumer awareness towards healthier products associated with natural and organic ingredients may create an additional demand. The question is whether Turkey can become a player in the world lavender oil market. Low production costs, high profit rate and its role in rural development make lavender production attractive, but small farm sizes and a complex value chain make lavender oil production far from being economic for farmers working alone and force them to stay at the beginning of the value chain. However, as there will always be a place in the market for quality lavender oil, Turkey should focus on quality and organization of lavender value chain in order to be competitive in the world market.

The study aims to examine the economics of Colocasia Marketing pattern which include Marketing Surplus and Price Spread at different size of farms in Bastar and Kanker district of Bastar plateau of Chhattisgarh state. The survey for this purpose was conducted in three blocks of each Bastar and kanker district of Chhattisgarh. Primary data were collected from 300 farmers, five villages from each block was selected through personal interview method with the help of pre-structured schedule for the year 2016-17. Study revealed that the average Marketed surplus of colocasia was 60.51 qtls/farm. The average yield was observed to be 101.68 quintals per hectare. Highest yield was found at large farms i.e. 115.30 quintals per hectare across the different farms. The marketable surplus was highest in case of large farms (67.88 Q) followed by Medium farm (59.61 Q), Small farm (57.13 Q) and Marginal farm (50.31 Q). Therefore the marketable surplus shows rising trend as farm size increases. The producer’s share in consumer rupee was higher in case of channel-II (66.32 per cent) than in channel-I (56.97 per cent) for colocasia. There was large number of intermediateries in the channel-I followed by channel-II. Because of it, producer’s share in consumer rupee was comparatively lower in channel-I and higher in channel-II i.e. large marketing channel reduced producer’s shares in consumer rupee is accepted.

Kenya is the world’s top performer in terms of real estate transparency and there has been a phenomenal growth in real estate investment in Kenya in the last ten years (2005-2016), with returns that way outdo the returns in the security markets. Despite this growth, Kenya has the lowest real estate returns in the Eastern Africa. The returns of real estate in Kenya are the lowest, standing at an average of 8 % compared to that of Uganda with 11.1 % and Tanzania 8.8 %. Based on this trend, a fundamental question would be what is really driving this investment. This study therefore attempted to determine the contribution of Prospect based behavioural biases in influencing real estate performance in Kenya using a sample of 353 individual investors. To test study hypothesis, Model R2, ANOVA Statistics and Regression coefficients were generated and interpreted. The results indicate that prospect bias negatively influence the performance of real estate industry. These findings imply that there is apparent irregularity in human behaviour when evaluating risk under uncertainty thus affecting the performance of their investments. Further interpretation is that losses hurt more than gains satisfy therefore real estate investors in Kenya tend to be risk averse when choosing between gains and risk takers when choosing between losses.

India is one of the emerging economies, which has witnessed significant developments in the stock markets during the liberalization policy initiated by the government. However, investing in shares include high risks which can be guided but not controlled. Most of these risks affect the market or the economy and require investors to adjust portfolios or ride out the storm. This paper analyzes the risk and return in banking sector taking Nifty Index as the benchmark. The study compares the performance of the 50 stocks in the NSE. Indian banking industry, the backbone of the country’s economy has always played a positive key role in prevention the economic disaster from reaching horrible volume in the country. Risk & Return is a concept that denotes a potential negative impact to an asset or some characteristic of value that may arise from some present process or future event. It has achieved enormous appreciation for its strength, particularly in the wake of some of the worldwide economic disasters. NSE Shares have proved to be more volatile than the pure diversified equity funds which make some of them a high-risk proposition. The study evaluates the performance of stocks mainly to identify the required rate of return and risk of a particular stock based upon different risk elements prevailing in the market and other economic factors.

Microelectromechanical system (MEMS) devices are typically combined with integrated circuits (ICs) for operation in electronic systems. A variety of possible factors could affect the decisions of integrating MEMS and IC components. This paper aimed to investigate the critical influence factors of MEMS and IC integration technologies through expert interviews, and to further analyze their causal relationships based on fuzzy decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory (fuzzy DEMATEL) method. We found that product footprints and product costs are the two major influence dispatchers in the cause group, while fabrication complexity is the major influence receiver in the effect group. Moreover, signal path length has very little strength of influence on other factors. The research analysis of fuzzy DEMATEL method could serve as a reference to future development strategies in the field of MEMS and IC integration technologies.

The purpose of this paper is to analyse the effects of innovative leadership on organisational productivity and profitability. A deterministic mathematical model using Runge-Kutta integration was utilised to analyse the effect of innovative leadership. A numerical simulation of the model differential equations disclosed how innovation leadership enables a company to change and adapt to its external environment and by implication enhance its performance. The study revealed that without innovative leadership, the production efforts remain stagnant with low productivity and profitability. Due to a change in the production efforts introduced by innovative leadership, an increase in the level of productivity and profitability is observed. The findings further emphasise that productivity increases with time under the innovative leadership. The proposed mathematical model can be broadly used to analyse the effect of innovative leadership on profitability and productivity within different organisations.

In order to improve the quality of products and to provide features that can satisfy consumers’ needs, technicians must understand the expectations of consumers. This paper recommends the use of quality function deployment (QFD), a method that integrates consumers’ dynamic requirements with product designs, which can be represented using a House of Quality (HoQ) matrix diagram. Here, the unmet and uncovered needs of consumers relating to the smart watch are analyzed extensively using a questionnaire-based survey. The opinions of consumers and technicians are then examined, and a HoQ diagram is constructed to evaluate the relationship between the design attributes of smart watch and its technical attributes. Finally, the attributes that need to be improved are listed in a suggested order of priority.
