The effect of censoring X variable only on the performance of Kendall's tau coefficient is evaluated in terms of Pitman Asymptotic Relative Efficiency (ARE). Christ-nian and Pontius (2000) applied several bootstrap techniques to construct confidence intervals when simple random samples are selected without replacement (SRSVVOR) and adaptive cluster sampling is used to sample lo-calized population units. Here we extend Sitter's (1992a, b) 'mirror-match' (MM) bootstrap to a practical survey set-up using varying selection probability. Also demonstrate using real data from the Indian Economic Census how the extended procedure can bo applied to adaptive cluster sampling adopted for estimating simultaneously the numbers of earners engaged in a number of localized unorganized rural industries.

Nested balanced incomplete block (NBIB) designs are useful when the experiments are conducted to deal with experimental situations when one nuisance factor is nested within the blocking factor. Similar to block designs, trend may exist in experimental units within sub-blocks or within blocks in NBIB designs over time or space. A necessary and sufficient condition, for a. nested block design to be trend free at sub-block level, is derived. Families and catalogues of XBIB designs that can be converted into trend-free NBIB designs at sub block and block levels have been obtained. A NBIB design with sub-block size 2 has a one to one correspondence with designs for diallel crosses experiments. Therefore, optimal block designs for diallel cross experiments have been identified to check if these can be converted in to trend-free optimal block designs for diallel cross experiments. A catalogue of such designs is also obtained. Trend-free design is illustrated with example lor a, NBIB design and a design for diallel crosses experiments.

This model describes the effect of the infected person's alertness on the time to cross ADT. It is shown that the adoption of preventive strategy lead to the elongation of the expected time to cross the ADT.

The features used for identifying a speaker based on an observed variable extracted from the spectrograms, rely on the distinct speaker effect, his/her interaction effect, with the particular word and with the frequency bands of the spectrogram. Performance of this novel approach on spectrogram samples, collected from 40 speakers, show that this methodology can be effectively used to produce a very high success rate in a closed set of speakers for text-dependent speaker identification.

Virchenko et.al. [Integral Transform and Special Functions 12 (1) (2001) 89-100l have extended Gauss hypergeometric function by introducing an additional parameter τ. Two new generalized fractional q-integral operators associated with a ggneralizad basic >50,000 per year. The present study was designed to assess the change, if any, in the time trends of HIV infection in children over the last 15 years as observed at the surveillance centre attached to Nehru Hospital, Chandigarh. All patients reporting to the surveillance centre at the PGIME&R, Chandigarh were subjected to a detailed history and screened for HIV by the three tests protocol recommended by the WHO. In babies under 18 months of age, viral load assay or DNA analysis was done to confirm infection. Time trends were ascertained over a 15-year period to assess the impact of information, education and communication programme launched by National AIDS Control Organisation. Data indicates that the total number of HIV positive cases increaseff 10-fold over the last 10 years. During 1991, 41 cases were recorded; the number increased to 439 in year 2001, and 574 in 2004 (r=0.98). A similar trend was observed in the paediatric age group. During the initial 5 years ie, 1987 to 1992 only 7 paediatric cases were documented positive while the number increased to 45 in the year 2001 to 64 in the year 2004 with a cumulative figure of 323 children. Linear regression analysis showed a highly significant trend (r=0.94). Out of the 323 cases, 44.6% were symptomatic. Maximum number of babies were observed in the age group of 3-5 years. Thirty-nine patients (12%) had acquired the infection through blood. Thus the information, education and communication programme has had very little impact on the HIV epidemic and it calls for urgent antiretroviral intervention in antenatal mothers to control the emerging paediatric HIV epidemic.

New weaker form of continuity, called Z-continuous functions, was introduced by Singal and Nimse in 1997. A function f: X → Y is Z-continuous if the inverse image of co zero set in Y is open in X. By using co semi zero-sets in place of co zero-sets in the range space, we can have a stronger form of Z-continuity. The purpose of this paper is to introduce such functions and to study some of its fundamental properties.

Simultaneous decisions regarding procurement and pricing policies are discussed for a deterministic inventory model in which piece and time dependent product life cycle type demand arises for seasons of fixed durations separated by random time intervals. Inventory once purchased may be carried over a number of seasons. Backlogged shortages are sold at a discounted price. Conditions leading to concavity of the expected net profit function are discussed. Algorithm for finding the optimal solution is presented along with numerical solutions. Sensitivity analysis with respect to demand parameters and decision variables is presented.

The results are expressed in terms of Bessel's function in the form of infinite series.

Letter motivating factor in the development of the techniques of communication is posting. The integrated communication of letters posting have made communication quite successful. Different types were developed for communicating data over communication system. Among these, letters posting, parcels posting, money order have dominated the scenario since last 10 decades. Our primary focus in present paper is the development of an appropriate queuing model for the performance evaluation of the letters processed in post office. In this paper we develop two queuing models for analyzing the performance. The models consist of a transmitter and receiver connected together with communication channels. Arrival of the packet is assumed to bulk in first model and general service in second model the result for mean waiting time at the transmitter, mean transmitting time and mean service time for receiver have been derived to determine the mean response time of the system for the communication channels of varying arrival rates and post office work load.

Main purpose is to improve the sequencing method to get minimum elapsed time and minimize idle time. The well-known sequencing problem is to determine the sequence in which two or more tasks should be processed on one or more processors .in Computer Communication system in order to optimize some measure of effectiveness. The measure of effectiveness could be the total elapsed time between the start of first task at one processor in CCS and the completion of last task on the last machine. So our main purpose is to optimize the total elapsed time and also minimize the total idle of different processors task allocation in distribution system is a crucial issue for improving the overall performance "Task Allocation" refers to the processors in such a way that some measure of effectiveness is optimized. This measure of effectiveness may be total execution time of the program.

An exposition on the 'congruence subgroup problem'. This subject is at a common ground shared by group theory and number theory. It deals with certain groups defined arithmetically and their subgroup structure. This is a relatively modern subject having taken off in the mid 1960's after Klein's early investigations on the modular group. Apart from interest in its own right, the subject gains importance also because of connections with the theory of automorphic forms which is central to number theory. This exposition is meant to introduce the subject to professional mathematicians working in other areas. At the end, some recent work by the author is mentioned.
