Considured a highly porous material occupying the annular region between two coaxial infinitely long cylinders. A viscous incompressible fluid fills the porous medium and is initially in a state of rigid rotation together with the medium. The porous annulus is partly of constant permeability (up to some radius) and the rest is of variable permeability, in such a way that the permeability is a continuous function of radius in the entire annulus. The flow has been disturbed by imposing suction/injection at the outer/inner cylindrical boundary respectively. The rate of injection at the inner cylinder is equal to the rate of suction at the outer cylinder. The Brinkman's law has been used to represent the motion in the porous medium. We consider the steady flow corresponding to this problem. An exact analytical solution is obtained in terms of Bessel functions. The manner in which the steady boundary layer gets modified by the presence of a variable permeability has been examined. It has been established that by a careful choice of variable permeability of the medium, the flow can be regulated so as to make the velocity nearly constant in the entire channel except in the boundary layer on the source and the sink. The results are compared with the already existing theories in the case of constant permeability.

The obtained governing differential equations are highly non-linear and contain up to fifth order derivatives of the flow functions. Hence exact or numerical solutions of the differential equations are not possible subject to the given natural boundary conditions, therefore the regular perturbation technique is applied. The flow functions H, G, L and M are expanded in the powers of the Reynolds number (taken small). The behaviour of the radial, transverse and axial velocity at different values of cross- viscous parameters for the cases of radial outflow and radial inflow have been discussed in the regions of no recirculation, recirculation and shown graphically.

Numerical solution of unsteady two-dimensional, laminar, boundary layer flow of a viscous, incompressible, electrically conducting fluid along a semi-infinite vertical plate in the presence of thermal and concentration buoyancy effects under the influence of uniform magnetic field applied normal to the flow, has been obtained. A time-dependent suction is assumed and the radiative flux is described using the differential approximation for radiation. Asymptotic series expansion about a small parameter ε is performed to obtain the flow fields. The Galerkin finite element method is used to solve the equations governing the flow. The results obtained are discussed for cooling (G_r> 0) and heating (G_r< 0) of the plate with the help of graphs and tables to observe the effects of various parameters such as P_r, Sc, M, Q, K, Nr, k_r, A, G_m and G_r. It has been found that when the thermal and solutal Grashof numbers increase, the thermal and concentration buoyancy effects are enhanced and the fluid velocity increases. Furthermore, when the Prandtl and Schmidt numbers increase, the thermal and concentration levels decrease resulting in reduced fluid velocity. These results are in good agreement with earlier results.

The stress and strain rate distributions developing due to rotation have been calculated and presented for various values of stress exponents. The study revealed that the stress exponents of 8 gives better approximation to experimental results than those of 3 and 5.

In this paper a coordination of governing control and excitation control using Fuzzy interval theory based Adaptive Neuro Fuzzy Inference System (FIT-ANFIS) model compensate their control inputs during faults. The proposed FIT-ANFIS automatically coordinates the behavior of the two compensations. The observations show its satisfactory behavior for proposed control. Another interesting case is the notion of fuzzy interval, a fuzzy set of numbers whose cuts are intervals. Fuzzy intervals account for both imprecision and fuzziness (regardless of whether their cores are reduced to a point or not). This issue was a topic of (unresolved) debates in early Linz Seminars on Fuzzy sets between pure mathematicians and applied ones. The design problem of the proposed controllers is formulated as an optimization problem and GA is employed to search for optimal controller parameters. By minimizing the time-domain based objective function, in which the deviation in the oscillatory rotor speed of the generator is involved; stability performance of the system is improved. The proposed controllers are tested on a weakly connected power system subjected to different disturbances. The non-linear simulation results are presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed controller and their ability to provide efficient damping of low frequency oscillations. The output signals U_s and V_s of FIT-ANFIS is further analyzed and processed using Genetic Algorithm (GA) based optimizer for development of robust and trusted systems.

Then perturbation solutions are derived for the large magnetic parameter. Crocco's transformation technique is used to calculate the skin friction co-efficient on the stretching sheet. Finally, a direct numerical solution of the governing equation is obtained subject to the relevant boundary conditions for the existing flow parameters by using Runge-Kutta algorithm with shooting technique. The effects of the various existing parameters entering into the problem on the velocity field, Skin-friction are discussed with the help of tables and graphs.

This paper presents some simple heuristics to increase flexibility in particle swarms. The particle velocities are updated with an extended inertia weight formulation, particles are also allowed to act as hill-climbers and the population is divided into exploration particles which are allowed to roam the search space more freely and exploitation particles which try to improve the fitness by fine tuning a local search, thus making the swarm much more flexible in its behavior. These heuristics improve the traditional inertia weight PSO and show comparable performance in the computational results of benchmark functions to other state of the art techniques. The benchmark functions used are a rigorous test bed for evaluating any optimization algorithm. An introduction and general overview of approaches to particle swarm optimizers is first presented, followed by a discussion of the proposed method. The result of the experiments is then discussed followed by proposals for future research directions.

Purpose of this paper is to study an important application of Singular Value Decomposition (SVD) to image processing. The idea is that by using the smaller number of vectors, one can reconstruct an image that is closer to the original. The clarity of the image depends on how many singular values are used to reconstruct it. In this paper, SVD was applied to the image and also using the Matlab software we developed the code. We also demonstrated how the SVD is used to minimize the size needed to store an image.

This paper introduces central force optimization as a new, nature-inspired metaheuristic for multidimensional search and optimization based on the metaphor of gravitational kinematics. CFO is a "gradient-like" deterministic algorithm that explores a decision space by "flying" a group of "probes" whose trajectories are governed by equations analogous to the equations of gravitational motion in the physical universe. This paper suggests the possibility of creating a new "hyperspace directional derivative" using the Unit Step function to create positive-definite "masses" in "CFO space." A simple CFO implementation is tested against several recognized benchmark functions with excellent results, suggesting that CFO merits further investigation.
