Deals with the convective instability in a horizontal layer of electrically conducting fluid, which from below and cooled from above, in the presence of an applied vertical magnetic field. The temperature gradient between the surfaces of the fluid layer consists of two parts; a steady part and a periodic part which varies with time. Perturbation procedure has been applied to study the stability of the fluid layer, considering only infinitesimal disturbances. The combined effect of temperature modulation and magnetic field on the onset of magnetoconvection has been investigated. The correction to the critical Rayleigh number has been calculated, which is found to be the function of frequency of modulation, thermal Prandtl number, magnetic Prandtl number and the Chandrasekhar number. The effect of magnetic field is found to be stabilizing. Further it is also found that the onset of convection can be advanced or delayed by proper tuning of the frequency of modulation of the surfaces, temperature.

In addition, we show that total closed neighborhood graphs are not Eulerian and establish characterization for total closed neighborhood graph to be Hamiltonian.

A particular model of the interface is considered for numerical computations. The amplitude ratios are plotted against the angle of incidence of thermal wave for the saturated cracks. Effects of saturated cracks are observed on reflected and refracted waves.

Hall proved upper estimates for the second and fourth moment of the extreme values of the Riemann zeta-function between its zeros on the critical line with respect to the zero-spacing. We give a rather simple proof of these estimates; however, our implicit constants are slightly weaker than Hall's. Further, authors consider discrete moments of the first derivative of the zeta-function at its simple zeros on the critical line with respect to the spacing of zeros and prove upper bounds, comparable to Hall's estimates for extreme values. Finally, we give for both cases upper estimates for higher moments conditional on a conjecture on mean-values of Hardy's Z-fuhction. The obtained results may be regarded as numerical evidence for Montgomery's pair correlation conjecture.

Tansformations in classical geometries often come equipped with natural spatial ami numerical invariants. Moreover, although they are infinitely many trasforniations, their ''dynamical types" are finite in number. While not attempting to define the notion of a dynamical type, we attempt to explain these phenomena by relating them to the centralizer-conjugacy classes, or z-classes, of elements in the auto-morphism groups of these geometries. Fibration theorem 2.1 for an orbit class in a general group-action and specialize it to the z-classes. It describes two set-theoretic fibrations of each orbit class, in particular a z-class. The base and the fiber in these fibrations of a z-class provide a partial explanation of the spatial and numerical invariants. The possible finiteness of dynamical types is related to the possible finiteness of z-classes. Authorsbring out the implicit role played by the field of real numbers in the assertion of finiteness of dynamical types of transformations in classical geometries. The analysis shows that the finiteness of dynamical types is expected to hold in the analogues of classical geomeries defined over other local fields. Two examples, namely i) the plane Euclidean geometry, and ii) the semisimple operators on a vector space over an arbitrary field, are worked out in detail to illustrate the general ideas.

Some conventional approaches to deal with tied observations in estimating survival function have been used for a long time. However, mathematical confirmations for those methods are not yet available. In this paper, author reveals a general censoring model which has a clear physical interpretation, and verify the validity of the standard failure before-censoring method under that censoring model. When failure time is discrete, author gave a sufficient and necessary condition for the identifiability of survival function and derive several corresponding estimators associated with different observing mechanisms. Among those estimators are some conventional ones; and thus provided the theoretical derivations for those estimators.

Selecting optimal maintenance strategy under fuzzy environment is not a trivial task. This paper presents an illustration of multi-criteria maintenance strategy selection under fuzzy environment. Three most common maintenance strategies and eight maintenance decision criteria have been considered and most appropriate/ optimal strategy selection process is demonstrated using three different techniques/ methods. Fuzzy linguistic terms have been used to rate and weigh the maintenance decision criteria. Linguistic terms/ variables are represented by triangular fuzzy sets/ number and fuzzy set operations have been carried out using a - cut method. The basic technique used is rating and ranking method using fuzzy set theory wherein ratings of alternatives/ strategies is determined first and then ranking is carried out to decide the optimal strategy. Other methods i.e. ranking fuzzy sets using cardinal utilities and by maximizing and minimizing sets are also established to confirm our choice of optimal maintenance strategy.

The mathematical model based on the known solving method of partial differential equation is a good base model, which can be further developed. Nowadays a more general distributed parameter model that includes both transverse and torsion vibration of the drill bit also seems desirable. The effects of damping and temperature must also be investigated.

The present paper investigates the two-class priority M/M/1 queueing system, where the prioritized first class customers are served under first-come, first served (FCFS) preemptive resume discipline and have finite room capacity. The second class customers have infinite waiting space and low priority i.e. during the service of a low priority customer, if a high priority customer joins the system, then the low priority customer's service is interrupted and will be resumed again when there is no high priority customer present in the system. Our aim is to get explicit expressions for the generating functions of the steady state probabilities in terms of Chebyshev's polynomial of second kind have obtained. A recursive method is employed to solve the steady-state equations governing the model. Moreover, the expressions for the mean queue length, the marginal distributions of high and low priority customers are also given. The derivation is based only on the general structure of the system and the generating function involved, and thus is simpler than previous methods. We examine the effect of number of high priority customers, input and output rates on the average queue lengths of low and high priority classes by looking at a numerical illustration.

Several techniques of fundamental physics like quantum mechanics, field theory and related tools of non-commutative probability, gauge theory, path integral etc. are being applied for pricing of contemporary financial products and for explaining various phenomena of financial markets like stock price patterns, critical crashes etc: The cardinal contribution of physicists to the world of finance came from Fischer Black and Myron Scholes through the option pricing formula which bears their epitaph and which won them the Nobel Prize for economics in 1997 together with Robert Merton and which constitutes the cornerstone of contemporary valuation theory. They obtained closed form expressions for the pricing of financial derivatives by converting the problem to a heat equation and then solving it for specific boundary conditions. Author applied the well-entrenched group theoretic methods to obtain various solutions of the Black Scholes equation for the pricing of contingent claims. In this article, it is shown that parastrophes of a given quasigroup can apply as a method for encrypting messages on the properties of the quasigroups. Besides that, the plain text and its cipher text are of the same lengths, and the encoding is of stream nature guarantying a very fast implementation. These methods are reconfigurable from the point of view of used quasigroups, and can be successfully implemented both in embedded systems as well as in big security programming modules.

Cumulative effect of coriolis force and magnetic field along with the vertical axis on thermo convective instability of a multi component ferrotluidic system has been studied. The interaction of salinity on temperature (soret effect) is also taken into account. The linear stability analysis has been carried out using normal mode technique, on the double diffusive convective system, rotating with constant angular velocity about vertical axis. The multicomponent ferrofluidic system is assumed to be heated from below and salted from above. Wide variation in Taylor number is considered. Numerical computations are made to establish the effect of coriolis force on setting up of double diffusive ferrothermohaline convection. The conditions for both stationary and oscillatory modes have been obtained. It is found that, for Taylor number less than or equal to 10², the system stabilizes through stationary mode. But for Taylor number higher than l0², oscillatory mode is favored. The results are shown graphically.

This paper provides reliability analysis of linear strict consecutive-k-out-of-n:F system, introduced and studied by Bollinger in 1985, using Graphical Evaluation and Review Technique (GERT). The components are assumed to be i.i.d. One of the strengths of the GERT network is the graphical representation, which is intuitive and easy to understand. By means of Mason's rule a simple formula for failure probability is obtained. Mathematica Software is used for systematic computations for different sets of values of n, k and p. Numerical examples illustrate the time efficiency of GERT Analysis.

Stability analysis of the Goodwin-Griffith model on the regulation of tryptophan operon has been carried out in a straight forward manner. Uncontrolled version of the set of equations is transformed, by invoking a linear perturbation scheme about a fixed point, to a set of linear equations in terms of the state perturbation variables. A stability criterion is then established for the solution of the system. Next a control term is added to the right hand side of the second equation of the linearized set of equations and analysis is performed in the same manner to find ranges of values of the control parameter which allows transformation of the system from an unstable state to a stable state. Stability criteria for both the uncontrolled and the controlled versions of the system are illustrated by the numerical examples.

How fuzzy goal programming can be efficiently used to solve bilevel decentralized programming problems in a large hierarchical decision making organization is presented. Bilevel decentralized programming problem is an extension of the conventional bilevel programming problem in which the bottom-level decision making unit is composed of several subunits, where one decision maker is located at each sub-unit and each in isolation controls a decision vector in the decision making context. In the proposed approach, the individual optimal decisions of the top-level decision maker as well as each of the divisional decision makers located at the bottom-level are determined first. Then, the membership functions for the fuzzily described objectives of all the decision makers and the control vector of the top-level decision maker are defined in the model formulation of the problem. In the decision process, first a linear programming model for the defined membership functions by using distance function to minimize the group regret of degree of satisfactions of all the decision makers is developed. The linear programming model is then transformed into an equivalent fuzzy goal programming model to achieve the highest value (unity) of the defined membership goals to the extent possible by minimizing their under-deviational variables and thereby obtaining the most satisfactory solution for the decision makers in the decision making environment. The solution approach is demonstrated by a numerical example.

Here the mxn payoff matrix is reduced to 2x2 payoff matrix by dominance method. In this paper, we discuss a saddle point solution from an uncertain payoff matrix. Moreover solution method for fuzzy games has also been developed. Numerical example is provided to illustrate the method.

A systematic study of fractional Brownian motion (fBm) is developing in the field related to network traffic analysis and mathematical finance recently; fBm has the statistical self-similarity and dependence on the long memory of the past. In this paper, we consider stochastic differential equation (SDE) driven by fBm with Hurst parameter HE (1/2, 1). Then we obtain pathwise-uniqueness criteria for solutions of SDE. Here SDE is interpreted as a stochastic integral equation of the fractional Ito-integral type; in the definition of this integral the Wick product (the Wick calculus in white noise analysis) is used instead of the ordinary product in the Riemann sums. An important property of a new type of stochastic integral is that the mathematical expectation of the integral equals zero. When there exists a pathwise unique solution, it agrees with every other solution wherever both are defined. The path wise-uniqueness result corresponds to an extension of the Osgood-Montel-Tonelli uniqueness theorem of solutions of ODE. Further, author gave non uniqueness criterion in the path wise sense; this is an analogue of the Tamarkine-Lakshmikantham nonuniqueness theorem of solutions of ODE.
