The purpose of the study was to identify the ICT self-efficacy (ICTSE) of users, factors affecting ICTSE, and the EIR usage of undergraduates based on the four sources in relation to the self-efficacy theory. The Survey research design was used in carrying out this research. A structured questionnaire was validated through experts and piloted among the final year undergraduates studying Humanities and Social Sciences of four state universities in Sri Lanka. The structural equation modelling was performed using partial least square. The model revealed that ICTSE has a direct, negative, and significant relationship with ICT anxiety and that ICT training also has a direct, negative, and significant relationship with EIR. The model explained that there is a 27 % of variance in the EIR use variable. The management of the library may deem it a worthy investment to instil adequate self-efficacy in users and encourage them to engage in more self-reliant search practices and decrease their dependence on staff. The finalized scales provide a potential tool applicable to different domains and disciplines to yield more common managerial implications in relation to training, teaching, and learning along with can be used as a tool when policy-level decision are made about the behavioral changes among university users on EIR usage in the current ICT domains within the university library systems.

The dissemination of agricultural information process to the farmers of Baruipur, a community development block in West Bengal, India is studied. Semi-structured interviews were conducted to collect qualitative and quantitative data from 129 farmers and two government officials. The study reveals that among the available wide range of information sources and learning forms, farmers primarily value local knowledge as it is mainly experience-driven, practical and can be shared or transmitted informally among the farmers. But, informal local knowledge gradually gets influenced by extraneous factors, constructing an alternative pathway that resist the flow of information from reaching to the grass-root level. Limitation of genuine and accurate agricultural information impeded the empowerment of farmers at the micro level which demands for a superior integration among diverse knowledge systems with informal local knowledge. Here, the study identifies a more practical approach for knowledge integration, aiming to secure local preference, dynamisms and internal cohesiveness among participants from different domain. Further, this paper forwards a participatory approach based informal communication model, facilitating two ways communication for better and effective flow of need based, value added, accurate information towards holistic empowerment of the farmers at the ground level.

Influence of social media such as WhatsApp is tremendously increased among students. The query aroused was whether such a familiar platform could be used as a learning tool. The purpose of the study was to assess the effectiveness of WhatsApp as an educational tool in a complex subject such as oral pathology among undergraduate students. Third‑year students of Government Dental College, Alappuzha, were selected as the study population and were divided into Group A and Group B by a simple random sampling. Histopathology slides were discussed conventionally with both Group A and Group B. Furthermore, labeled histopathological images were discussed only for Group A students, in a WhatsApp group named “GDC ALLEPPEY OPATH.” To assess the effectiveness of a new method, a questionnaire was given to both groups and the results were statistically analyzed using Mann–Whitney U‑test. An additional opinion poll was carried out with Group A to identify students’ perspective toward the novel learning tool. Pair‑wise comparison of the mean scores of Group A and Group B showed a statistically significant higher mean score for Group A (P = 0.005). There was a significant improvement in the mean score of Group A in their ability to comprehend individual histopathologic features compared to that of Group B (P = 0.008). WhatsApp can prove to be highly advantageous and enhance learning in undergraduate students when used in supplementation to the conventional learning methods.

The study aimed to determine the presence of publication bias in the top five dental journals with high impact factor published during 2007–2016. The journals included are Journal of Clinical Periodontology, Dental Materials, Clinical Oral Implant Research (COIR), Journal of Endodontics, and Journal of Dental Research (JDR). The content of these journals was hand searched by two authors for scouring the proportion of positive or negative results. Articles showing two outcomes (primary and secondary) were registered depending on the primary result. The present study revealed higher percentage of statistically significant results in the published dental literature. Of five journals, JDR has shown fewer tendencies toward publication of nonsignificant results, whereas COIR has evidenced the highest publication of nonsignificant results. The journals with higher impact factor showed significantly different acceptance rate for research with positive results. However, year‑wise publication (2007–2016) did not depict any significant difference. In dental research journals, articles with positive results are finding a better way in getting published compared to articles with negative results.

Research on information communication technologies (ICT) for entrepreneurship development is burgeoning, yet our understanding of the use of ICT in support of grassroots innovation remains unclear. This paper examines the moderating role of the use of ICT on the relationship between grassroots innovation (GRI) and entrepreneurial success (ES). The study involved 400 grassroots entrepreneurs selected from three states in India, and the moderating effect of the use of ICT was analysed using moderated structural equation modelling. The results revealed that the use of ICT partially moderates the relationship between the new learning practices and economic benefits. It also partially moderates the relationship between local solution and economic benefits, but it fully moderates the relationship between networking capabilities and economic benefits, where the relationship is stronger when the use of ICT is high. Furthermore, the study found that the use of ICT does not moderate the relationship between new learning practice and non-economic benefits, relationship between local solution and non-economic benefits and relationship between networking capabilities and non-economic benefits.

Genetic diseases are diverse and many of which have debilitating consequences affecting the individual, the society, and the economy. Trends databases, including Google Trends database, can be used to estimate the digital epidemiology of these diseases. Digital Epidemiology is valuable when it comes to conditions of low prevalence as in the case of ciliopathies including that of Meckel–Gruber Syndrome. To assess the digital epidemiology and the geographic mapping of Meckel- Gruber syndrome via a trends database of the surface web. Google Trends database will be usedfor geographic mapping and retrospective analysis of interest of users of the Surface Web. The aim is to infer and predict the digital epidemiology of Meckel–Gruber Syndrome. A retrospective analysis is conducted as far as the trends database permits (2004-2017). The trends database was explored using the thematic expression of keywords specific to Meckel–Gruber Syndrome including its synonyms. Subsequently, descriptive and inferential statistics were carried out to estimate the digital epidemiology as well as the geographic mapping. The aim was to conclude the existence of any significant change in web users’ interest and the variation of that interest versus geography (country) and chronology (time). Concerning geographic mapping, signals of web users were found to be originating from the United States (68.49 %) and Finland (31.51 %). Globally, the average value of the relative interest of surface web users in Meckel–Gruber Syndrome was 34.10 (+/- 14.59). There was an overall decline in web users’ attention towards the condition for the period 2004−2010 versus 2011−2017 (20.06 vs 4.88, p-value<0.001) and for period 2004-2006 versus 2007-2009 (29.14 vs 14.19, p=0.001). Digital epidemiological analysis has been proven feasible with good accuracy via Googles Trends. In the case of Dysencephalia Splanchnocystica, the geographic mapping of the surface web has been limited to the developed world. Prospectively, Google Trends can be integrated into a predictive early warning system to anticipate any change in the interest of the users of the Indexed Web in a particular disease including genetic ones.

The Medical Council of India came out with the criteria of research publications for the promotions for the first time in 2009. Though this was done with the intention of promoting and encouraging research among faculties of Medical Colleges, this has given rise to the genesis as well as mushrooming of predatory journals. Hence MCI has been making attempts to refine the criteria of publications and make the criteria more stringent. The last such attempt was in its PG committee meeting in January 2018 where it decided to constitute a committee of experts in each subject to draw a list of standard journals in their respective subjects so that publications only in these journals would be considered for future promotions. In this context, this article makes an attempt to assist researchers and regulatory bodies in assessing the quality of journals by means of a score-sheet.

The advancement of medical knowledge is quint-essentially based on the authentic and reliable scientific research and publications. This is in addition to the recently mandated requirement of original research publications in indexed journals to ensure career progression in academic/medical institutions, thus the need for 'publications' in scientific medical scholarly journals has increased substantially. On the other hand, this has given an unparalleled rise in the number of stand alone journals and publishers “Predatory” is the term, who are ready to process the manuscripts on priority with almost guaranteed publication, at a cost, but having no credibility to the research being published. To foster awareness creation among students at the post-graduate level and for faculty of medical colleges and research institutions, it has become very important to avoid these predatory journals. It is high time that the thinking among researchers of 'Publish or Perish' be changed to 'Publish and Flourish' by adopting stringent measures which have evolved over time to curtail this birch of predatory publishing. Researchers should now take the road less travelled. This review article aims to highlight all the relevant and important points about the threats posed by predatory journals and also suggests possible ways to overcome them.

This paper discusses teenagers’ need of library resources and library services in the public libraries in Iran. Descriptive method is used and a researcher-made questionnaire formed the major instrument for data gathering. Descriptive and inferential statistics are applied. It found that teenagers’ need is more textbooks than other resources, of course their first priority is educational books. It means that the teenagers interest to educational books, but it wasn’t their main need. Most used library services was familiarity to library while adolescents need to expand and improve lending services. Finally, it was concluded that libraries were less successful in meeting the teenagers’ need based on their priorities. Therefore, libraries need to be equally important in the development of their resources and services based on the priorities and needs. In this way, their needs are answered, and according to their priority, the library will answer their leisure time according to teenagers’ interest.

Nowadays, mobile technology seems to become integral part of our life. People with different careers have begun to use it in their jobs. This research aims to identify influential factors in mobile technology adoption at library context. To this end, a conceptual model was presented based on an integrated model of technology acceptance model (TAM) and technology organisation and environment (TOE) model. A researcher-made questionnaire was distributed among 120 academic librarians. Seven Factor out of the integrated model of TAM and TOE were chosen to investigate their influence on mobile technology adoption. The results of the study suggest that the proposed model (integrated model of TAM and TOE) is a favourable one to identify the influential factors in mobile technology adoption at library context. In addition, regression analysis indicated that out of these seven factor, perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, compatibility, relative advantage and organisational competency are determinant factors in adopting mobile technology-based library services among academic librarians.

DESIDOC J Libr Inf Technol 2018, 38(3), 213-20.
Electronic information resources are increasingly become an important component of the collection-building activities of libraries. This paper attempts to understand how far the licenses of commercial publishers support resource optimisation in general and what other important issues that are usually ignored by publishers, knowingly or unknowingly, but are essential for better resource optimisation. Five international publishers namely Elsevier, EBSCO, Sage, Springer, and Taylor & Francis were identified and analysed their agreements that are available in public domain with some model agreements like Liblicense model and model license developed by John Cox Associate. Study indicates that core part of the negotiations still remain price, IP access, display, ILL/document supply, etc. while important issues like perpetual access, archiving, self-archiving, copy of individual articles and share the same for non-commercial use by authorised users were minor issues of the contract. Furthermore, most of the obligations of the publishers that are identified as core issues in Liblicense model are also absent in commercial publishers’ license. A greater awareness of this to library managers is essential. They must be acquainted with the clause of the license agreement of commercial publishers and must negotiate to that extent so that the access should be uninterrupted.

Spam e-mail and calls from the predatory publishers are very similar in purpose: they are deceptive and produce material losses. Moreover, the predatory publishers show evolving strategies to lure potential victims, as their number increases. In an effort to help researchers defending against their constant menace, this article aims to identify a set of common features of spam e-mail and calls from predatory publishers. The methodology consisted of a comparative analysis of data found on the Internet and e-mails received at several addresses during December 2017 – January 2018. The results indicate that concealed, fake or disguised identity of the sender and/or of the message, mass mailing, missing or useless opt-out option and an obvious commercial character are the most prominent common features. Moreover, the location of predatory publishers is well disguised; the analysis of the real location, found using web-based tools, suggests a joint management or at least a concerted action of several publishers, and raises additional questions related to the reasons of masking the true location. From a theoretical standpoint, the results show, once again, that predatory publishers are a part of the worldwide scam, and should be ‘convicted’ in a similar way, including the means of legal actions. From a practical perspective, distinct recommendations were phrased for researchers, policy makers, libraries, and future research.

Data and Information safety is an act of shielding records and information systems from unauthorized access, use, disclosure, disruption, change or destruction. Currently, aside from the army and institutional records safety, man or woman records safety is very essential. If person data safety is neglected, it can reason intangible harm and monetary loss. In this take a look at, a novel technique which include photo primarily based data hiding at the side of textual content to speech conversion gadget application has been evolved and examined to decorate records safety. This software is intended to provide a extra relaxed way of verbal exchange for emails which play an essential function in personal facts switch. Text hiding in Image is the exercise of concealing a report, message, picture, or video within some other report, message, photograph, or video. It benefits from the reality that the incidence of a few neighborhood features within the photo demonstrates terrific patterns for figuring out the payload of the duvet photo sub-regions based on Human Visual System (HVS). In this project we have proposed a novel technique for the secure data transmission for Military use and Police use with the help of steganography and social media or email. We have encoded secret data and sent it through Whatsapp and similar with facebook uploads, while at the remote receiver end we have decoded the image to get the original data. Similarly we have added the text to speech conversion process along with the decoder portion where the decoded message can be converted into speech for ease of access of the data and for emergency notification.

Ann Lib Inf Stu 2018, 65(1), 7-42.
This part of the study highlights the contents of the published articles in terms of various disciplines or sub-disciplines and the bibliometric aspects discussed in these articles. The analysis of 902 papers published by Indian scholars during 1995-2014 indicates that the main focus of bibliometrics/scientometrics is on assessment of science and technology in India in different sub-disciplines including contributions by Indian states and other individual countries followed by bibliometric analysis of individual journals. Papers dealing with bibliometric laws received a low priority as compared to other sub- disciplines of bibliometrics/scientometrics. The analysis of data indicates that the share of theoretical studies using mathematical and statistical techniques which were missing in the earlier period (1970-1994) has increased during 1995- 2014. The field of medicine as a discipline received the highest attention as compared to other disciplines.
