Sulphur release pattern in the soil was studied in a laboratory incubation study with five levels of sulphur (0, 15, 30, 45 and 60 kg ha^-1), two sources of sulphur (ammonium sulphate and gypsum ) at 0, 15, 30, 60, 90 and 120 days of incubation. The mean sulphur content in the soil was lowest (10.71 mg kg^-1 soil) at S₀ level over the periods of incubation, which increased to 31.42 mg kg^-1 soil at S ₆₀level.The rate of release of sulphur was negative (immobilization) between 0 and 15 days of incubation, which reached a peak value of 0.362 mg kg^-1 day^-1 between 30 and 60 days of incubation. The release of sulphur was found to follow a curvilinear pattern with time. Among the sources, ammonium sulphate recorded significantly higher So₄^-2 - S content in soils at any particular period of incubation. The release was 9.8% more in case of ammonium sulphate when compared with gypsum. The release was also more by 42.3% when the soil was at field capacity than at submergence, the So₄^-2 - S concentration was lowest (10.28 mg kg^-1 soil) at 15 days of incubation at submergence while it was highest (40.37 mg kg^-1 soil) at field capacity at 120 days of incubation. The decrease in So₄^-2 - S content at 15 days of incubation was more at field capacity than at submergence. The rate of release of sulphur was -maximum between 30 and 60 days which coincides with critical stage of nutrient reuqirement for most of the field crops.

Experiment was conducted to study the effect of dietary supplementation of bioboost, a commercial product, on nutrient utilization and growth performance in buffalo calves. Ten male buffalo calves (153.6±7.44 kg) were randomly divided into two groups (control and treatment) of five animals each and offered concentrate mixture supplemented without and with bioboost at l kg/ton of the concentrate mixture with limited berseem fodder and wheat straw ad libitum. The mean body weight gain (g/d) of the animals of the control and treatment groups was 472.89 and 486.67, respectively and was comparable. The supplementation of bioboost had no significant effect on the total DMI and digestibility of DM, CP, EE, CF and NFE. The DCP and TDN per cent of the control and treatment diets were similar. The animals were in positive nitrogen balance and the mean values of the nitrogen retained were also comparable between the two groups. Results revealed to that bioboost at the specified level of supplementation did not show any beneficial effect on nutrient utilization and growth performance in buffalo calves.

Trichoderma harzianum and Pseudomonas flourescens isolated from the rhizosphere soils of tomato and chilli were screened in vitro against Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lycopersici and Colletotrichum capsici causing wilt in tomato and die-back in chilli respectively. Soil application of bio-control agents effectively checked the diseases under pot culture experiments. Talc-based formulation of antagonists significantly increased shoot length, root length and dry matter production of tomato and chili seedlings. Either the indivdiaual or combined effect of these two bio control agents was on par with the carbendazim.

Feeding value of rapeseed-mustard cakes (RMC) from six genotypes with varying levels of glucosinolates (~20-100 μmol/g) was evaluated by in vitro gas production technique. The chemical composition of different genotypes of RMC was similar except acid detergent fibre (ADF) content that was lower in TERI (OE) EN 03 than other five genotypes. Except for genotype TERI-LGM 08 and Varuna of B. juncea containing >40% erucic acid (% of oil, w/w), rest of the genotypes used in this experiment had erucic acid level below 2%. The gas production was lower (P<0.0l) at <20 μmol/g glucosinolate level in B. napus [TERI (00) R9903] relative to remaining cultivars of either B. napus or B. juncea. However, the level of glucosinolates in RMC did not exert any significant effect (P>0.05) on in vitro truly degradable organic matter in rumen (TDOMR). Mean microbial biomass production (%TDOMR or per 200mg substrate) and PF (mg TDOMR/ml gas) were significantly higher for canola quality B. napus [TERI (00) R9903] containing lowest level of glucosinolates (<20 μmol/g) relative to other genotypes. It may be concluded that variability in the glucosinolates content of various genotypes of RMC may not exert any significant effect on substrate degradability; however, microbial biomass production could be varied in different cultivars.

In respect of yield and other qualities, both the genotypes were at par with the standard popular Dutch varieties Diamant and Cardinal. The CIP clone 88.163 named as "Saikat" (meaning sea shore) is recommended for cultivation in coastal areas of the country. 'Saikat' was superior to the check varieties in respect of resistance to late blight and virus diseases, and keeping quality under natural conditions.

Field experiments were carried out for two consecutive kharif seasons of 1998 and 1999 at Agricultural Research Station, Ragolu of North Coastal Agro climactic Zone of Andhra Pradesh to study the influence of varieties, time of sowing and nitrogen levels in rainfed upland rice. Distinct disparities with regard to growth structure, yield attributes and yield of rice were observed due to varieties, time of sowing and nitrogen levels. The variety Pushkaia (v₁) recorded the highest growth except plant height. The tallest plants were o served with MTU 1006 (V₃). Delayed sowing resulted in deflated growth and yield parameters, except tiller production, which were however, maximum with July first fortnight (D₂). A progressive increase in all the growth and yield attributes were observed with increasing levels of nitrogen, the highest being associated with 90 kg N ha^-1 (N₄) which was however in parity with 60 kg N ha^-1(N₃). Maximum grain yield was produced by Pushkala (V₁) supplied with 90 kg N ha^-1 when sown during second fortnight of June (D₁), which was comparable with 60 kg ha^-1 (N₃).

Growth and biornass production parameters (length of root and shoot, collar diameter, phyllode area per seedling and total fresh and dry weight of seedling) increased significantly with successive increments in the doses of external nutrition. Highest value for root-shoot ratio was recorded in the treatment receiving lower dose of inorganic fertilizers in addition to FYM. The difference in values of Dickson quality index (DQ1) and Coefficient of certainty in the treatments receiving organo inorganic nutrition was not significant.

Experiment was conducted to find out optimum requirement of methionine (Met) for Vanaraja chicks during 1 to 42d of age in diets containing constant levels of crude protein (CP) and other nutrients. A basal diet containing 19% CP and 0.31 % Met was prepared. Synthetic DL-Met was added to basal diet to get 0.33, 0.36, 0.40, 0.43, 0.47 and 0.50% Met. Diet containing each level of Met was allotted to 10 replicates containing six birds and fed ad libitum from 2 to 42 days of age. Body weight gain at 14, 28 and 42 days of age and feed efficiency at 14 and 42d of age were not affected by the concentrations of Met in diet. But, feed efficiency at 28d of age improved significantly (P<0.0l) with increase in concentration of Met from 0.33 to 0.40%. Further increase in Met concentration did not show any improvement in feed efficiency. Cost of feed required to produce a kg live weight gain was highest and lowest, respectively in groups fed 0.43 and 0.47% Met. Slaughter-variables studied i.e. ready to cook yield, abdominal fat deposition and relative weights of liver, bursa and spleen were not affected by the levels of Met in diet. Lack of response in weight gain and feed efficiency at the end of experiment might be due to slow growth rate of birds. Based on the results, it could be concluded that Vanaraja chicks does not require more than 0.33% Met in diet containing 19% CP and 2600 kcal ME/kg for optimum performance during 1-42d of age.

Study was conducted during kharif 2004 at department of Plant Pathology, Agricultural College, Bapatla. Five growth hormones were tested at three concentrations (10^-4, 10^-5 and 10^-6M) separately for their effect on pre and post emergence dampning off and collar rot disease incidence caused by Aspergillus niger van Tieghem. All the chemicals caused a significant reduction in disease incidence compared to the untreated control. Salicylic acid (10^-5 M) was the most effective in reducing 75 per cent pre and post emergence damping off disease incidence followed by Gibberillin A₃ (10^-6 M) and Maleic hydrazide (10^-6 M)which recorded 63.34 and 59.09 per cent disease reduction respectively over untreated control. Maximum reduction (79.36%) of collar rot disease incidence was observed when seeds were pre soaked with Salicylic acid (10^-5M) followed by Gibberillin A₃ (10^-6 M), Indole acetic acid (10^-6 M) and Maleic hydrazide (10^-6 M) which recorded 72.02, 70.24 and 64.19 per cent respectively.

One hundred fourteen progenies from line tester (19 x 6) design were studied for 10 characters in seedling and seedling-tuber crops. Specific combining ability (SCA) variance was predominant in expression of various traits than the general combining ability (GCA) variance except for tuber shape, which had almost equal variances. Genotypes JX 90, CP 3125 and JN 1197 were found superior in both crops based on their GCA for all the traits. Kufri Bahar x JN 1197, JF 4841 x CP 3125, JX 90 x JN 1197, CP 2161 x JN 1197, JX 90 x CP 3125 and JV 67 x JEX/A 592 were superior crosses for developing high yielding and uniform true seed populations.

Heriability, genetic advance and path coefficient analysis for rhizome yield, plant height, leaf number, leaf area, number of stomata, leaf temperature, relative humidity of leaves, stomatal resistance, transpiration rate and rhizome yield were reported in 26 Indian ginger (Zingiber officinale Rose) cultivars. The ciltivars varied significantly from one another for all the nine parameters studied. Results on both heritability and genetic advance showed that leaf number per plant is controlled by additive genes whereas, rest of the characters showed non-additive gene action. In path analysis, the direct effect of leaf area, number of leaves, plant height and number of stomata were positively high on rhizome yield. The leaf temperature, relative humidity and stomatal resistance showed negligible and relative direct effects on rhizome yield.

A field experiment was conducted to explore the economically viable 1PM module for managing major tissue-feeding pest fauna of brinjal (var. Mukta Keshi) through impact of intercropping and judicious application of granular insecticides incorporated around the root zone of the plant at 30 DAT (days after transplanting. Efficacy of intercropping were found to be in order of: brinjal + marigold > brinjal + French bean > sole crop of brinjal in terms of reduction in the incidence of H. uigintioctopunctata, Spilosoma obliqua, wilt intensity caused by Meloidogyne, Incognita acrila and Pseudomonas solanaceamrn occurring on brinjal and in respect of realizing higher yield of marketable fruits of brinjal. The efficacy of the insecticides in this regard remained in order of : phorate > carbofuran > quinalphos > no use of insecticide. The interactive effect of intercropping and soil application of insecticide (@1.0 kg a.i./ha) remained effective in suppressing the pest species and yield enhancement of brinjal.

NAA 20 ppm resulted earliness in panicle emergence, date of first and 50 % flowering, high sex ratio, increased duration of panicle emergence and higher percentage of flowering shoots, whereas, fruit set and retention were enhanced by the application of GA₃ 100 ppm.

Blends of Cheddar cheese comprising of 66% of 2-3 months old and 34% of 4-5 months old cheddar cheese were used to prepare processed cheese spread. Cheese solids were partially replaced by whey protein concentrate (WPC) (38.00 per cent protein) solids at different levels, viz. 1.5,3-0 and 4.5 per cent. Incorporation of WPC resulted in a significant improvement in body and texture score of spread particularly at 3.0 and 4.5% level. However, addition of WPC at higher levels imparted a milder flavour to the product. Processed cheese spread with good melt ability, desired characteristics with improved spread ability can be prepared by using dried WPC at levels up to 4.5% of cheese solids.

Brachionus rubens is often epizoic on large cladocerans. While this behaviour confers advantages in the presence of invertebrate predators, it is detrimental in the presence of vertebrate predators. This studies aimed to determine whether the epizoic tendency of B. rubens varies in the presence of infochemicals from vertebrates and invertebrates. For the invertebrate predators used Asplanchna brightwellii (Rotifera) and Acanthocyclops robustus (Copepoda) and for the vertebrate predator, the zebra fish (Danio rerio). Studied the population dynamics, morphometry and egg ratio of B. rubens in the medium in which the predators were maintained for 24 h and this was compared to controls (water without infochemicals). Experiments were conducted using 50 ml of test medium containing the algal food Chlorella vulgaris at a density of 1X10⁶ cells ml^-1. Introduces 5 individuals of Daphnia pulex into each container to quantify the number of epizoic individuals of B. rubens. The results shows that B. rubens suffered considerable exploitative competition from Daphnia pulex. Growth rates however did not vary significantly due to the presence of vertebrate or invertebrate infochemicals. In the presence of Daphnia more than 68% of B. rubens population was epizoic. The data have been discussed with special emphasis on the protective value of epizoic behaviour against predalion pressure in nature.

The results emerged out of the studies on spectral reflectance under normal and nitrogen and phosphorus stress condition in soybean (Glycine max L.) conducted at Marathwada Agricultural University experimental farm, Parbhani during kharif 2004-05 showed that crop growth and bio-physiological parameters viz., Height, chlorophyll, leaf area index and total biomass influenced by pest and disease and nutrient stress resulted in detectable spectral reflectance variation. Poor crop growth, reduced canopy cover, chlorophyll content and biomass production are the effects observed in nutrient deficient crops. These above changes in soybean crop were related to spectral indices (RV1 and NDVI) that are resulted in discrimination of stressed and normal (non-stressed) soybean crop.

Eight potato cultivars were studied for the three adaptability parameters (gi, bi and S²di) of yield at early harvest 75 days) and full maturity (90 days) at Deesa and Ladol in North Gujarat during rabi 1999, 2001 and 2002. Genotype x Environment interaction was significant for both the harvests. Non-linear component was predominant in genotype x environment (G x E) interaction for both the harvests. A simultaneous consideration of the three parameters for high yield at early harvest (75 days) showed Kufri Pukhraj to have wide adaptability, whereas Kufri Badshah and Kufri Jawahar were adapted to favourable environment only. However, in main season crop (90 days harvest), Kufri Badshah was found ideally stable.

The indigenous potato processing cultivars Kufri chipsona-1 and Kufri Chipsona-2 were evaluated under eight nutrient management strategies (related with substitution of inorganic fertilizer with organic manure and supplementation of secondary/micro nutrients like Mg, Zn and Fe) during two seasons (2003-04 and 2004-05) in west-central plains. Year to year variations were observed in most of the variables studied. Plant growth parameters (plant height and number of compound leaves) remained unaffected up to 50 percent replacement of inorganics by organic source (FYM). However, 100 percent organic fertilization showed significantly poor plant growth, whereas stem number was not influenced by various nutrient management treatments. The processing grade and total tuber yields remained unaffected up to 25 percent substitution of inorganics by organics. However, the yield decreased significantly at 50 percent replacement or more. Similar trends were observed with mean tuber weight (36.6-56.4 g) and mean process grade tuber weight (64.4-90.6 g). Neither substitution of inorganic fertilizers with organic source (FYM) nor supplementation of micro nutrients (Zn, Fe and Mg) with inorganic fertilizers affected the processing quality traits, such as specific gravity, tuber dry matter content, chip colour score and reducing sugars content. Across the nutrient management options cv. Kufri Chipsona-1 had significantly higher tuber number and yield than Kufri Chipsona-2. Keeping the soil health and sustainability of production system in view, the integrated use of inorganic fertilizers and organic manure i.e. 75 percent of recommended NPK through inorganic source and 25 percent from FYM (on N basis) is suggested.

India has 1,49,410 hectares area under turmeric cultivation with a total annual production of 527,960 tonnes. The compound growth rate of turmeric area is 6.30 and production is 3.37 when comparing 2000 levels over those of 1970. It shows that the increase in area is not having significant effect over the production rate. The suitability maps and area productivity graphs are given to show the position of turmeric in the important turmeric growing states. It was found that site suitability is an important factor to determine the productivity of the crop. A highly suitable location may not result in larger yields than suitable or marginally suitable areas. Suitability maps are useful to determine areas which will have the greatest success for growing a particular crop in a region.

The variety Kufri Himsona has been developed to provide processing quality potatoes from highlands at a time fresh potatoes from plains are not available. This variety, tested at different locations in highlands, has shown excellent processing quality, both in the laboratory tests and industrial frying. Kufri Himsona gives high total and processing grade tuber yields and possesses field resistance to late blight. Its round-oval tubers contain high dry matter (22.4%), low reducing sugars (<100 mg/100 g fr wt) and are free from internal defects. Kufri Himsona is expected to be a good replacement for the variety Kufri Jyoti, as it will be possible for hill farmers to market the produce both for processing and table purposes.

Study was conducted to see the effect of dietary incorporation of alkali (1.5 % NaOH, w/w) processed solvent extracted karanj cake (SKC) supplemented with methionine on serum haemato-biochemical profile, humoral immune response and skeletal status of broiler chickens during 0 to 8 weeks of age. Incorporation of alkali treated SKC with or without methionine supplementation did not significantly influence the serum concentration of a hemoglobin, glucose, protein, albumin, globulin and uric acid or the activities of enzymes such as AST, ALT or LDH. However, alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity increased significantly (P<0.05) in the birds fed alkali treated SKC diet as compared to that of either reference diet or alkali treated SKC incorporated diet supplemented with methionine. The feeding of alkali processed karanj cake replacing 12.5 per cent protein of soybean meal had no significant influence on antibody production as measured on 5^th day of sheep RBC inoculation. However, the persistency of antibody production decreased significantly. On the contrary, supplementation of 0.2 per cent methionine to the same diet alleviated the depression in antibody production. Incorporation of alkali treated SKC replacing soybean meal nitrogen at (12.5%) level, with or without methionine supplementation, had no influence on the serum concentrations of Ca and P, bone ash, leg score and bone breaking strength.

An experiment was conducted to evaluate the performance of commercial White Leghorn (WLH) layers fed diet supplemented with DL- methionine (Met) during summer (29-43°C). WLH layers 26 wks of age with an average of 78 per cent hen day egg production (HDEP) were equally distributed into 3 groups of 24 each and were housed in individual California type cages in open side housing system. A basal diet based on maize-soybean-sunflower-deoiled rice bran without supplemental methionine (Met) was formulated (0.3 % Methionine). Test diets were prepared by supplementing DL-Met at 0.0, 0.06 and 0.12 per cent to arrive 0.30, 0.36 and 0.42 per cent Met in the diet. The HDEP and feed efficiency increased significantly by supplementation of 0.06 per cent Met to the basal diet containing 0.30 per cent Met. However, no further improvement in egg production could be noticed by enhancing the Met supplementation to 0.12 per cent. Neither egg weight nor daily feed consumption was influenced by Met supplementation. The egg quality parameters such as specific gravity, shell-breaking strength, shell weight and shell thickness were Dot influenced due to supplemental Met in the diet. However, Haugh unit improved significantly due to 0.06 per cent Met supplementation. The serum protein, albumin and globulin concentrations were significantly higher in Met supplemented groups compared to that of control. The serum ALP activity lowered significantly due to 0.06 per cent Met supplementation and increasing the level to 0.12 per cent did not prove to be advantageous. The antibody production in response to sheet RBC inoculation improved significantly by supplementation of 0.06 per cent Met to the basal diet. No further advantage in antibody production could be noticed by enhancing the Met supplementation from 0.06 to 0.12 per cent. Similarly, the persistency of antibody production was higher in birds fed supplemental Met as compared to control group. It may be concluded that supplementation of 0.06 per cent DL-Met to the basal diet containing 0.3 per cent Met (375 mg Met/hen/day) is essential to support egg production, albumen quality and immune response in commercial WLH layers during summer (29-43°C).

Leaf leachates (20, 40, 60, 80 g L^-1) of Zanthoxylum bungeanum affected the soil enzymatic properties and growth of its own seedlings. Leaf leachates at concentrations of 60, 80 g L^-1, significantly inhibited the seedlings root biomass. With the increase in leaf leachate concentrations, soil polyphenoloxidase activities increased greatly but soil catalase, protease and acid phosphatase were decreased significantly. The lower concentration (20 g L^-1) of leaf leachates had no effect on ascorbate peroxidase (APX), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) of seedlings but higher concentrations were inhibitory. Likewise, the malondialdehyde (MDA) contents in seedling leaves decreased significantly at 20 g L^-1 and increased at higher concentrations (over 60 g L^-1). Soil available nitrogen was greatly enhanced at the 20 g L^-1 concentration, but declined at higher concentrations. However, soil available phosphorus decreased in all concentrations. Some significant relationships were observed among the soil chemical properties, enzymatic activities and the seedling physiological indices with leaf leachates.

In thirty diverse genotypes of finger millet grown in kharif 2005 and rabi 2005-06, the path analysis indicated that ear weight per plant, 1000 seed weight and days to 50% flowering exerted significant direct effect on seed yield during both the seasons indicating that selection based on these traits would be effective for yield improvement in finger millet with a reasonable level of protein and calcium. The discriminant function including yield per plant, days to 50% flowering, plant height, fingers per ear, length of finger, ear weight per plant, 1000 seed weight and calcium content showed maximum genetic advance and relative efficiency suggesting that simulataneous selection for all these characters would be better over straight selection for yield.

Investigates the allelopathic effects of dominant plants in 3-microcomplexcs (dominant spp. Melica Uniflora, Lithoxpermum purpureocoeruleum, Quercus virgiliana) on 6 ecophysiological groups of microorganisms in soil and litter in Omo-Quercetum virgilianae forest on Avala Mountain (Serbia). Numbers of all investigated microorganisms were much greater in litter than in surface soil. Except the users of maltose, there were large numbers of all microorganisms in the litter of Q. virgiliana compared to M. uniflora and to L purpureocoeruleum, this showed the stimulatory effects of oak litter on majority of microorganisms. The lowest number of cellulolytic, humifying, ammonifying and oligonitrophyllic microorganisms were found in litter of L. purpureocoeruleum indicating its allelopathic inhibitory effects. The maximum number of cellulolytic microorganisms were found in litter of Q. virgiliana and M. uniflora, which showed the stimulatory effects of these plants. L. purpureocoeruleum completely inhibited the mould development in soils, than M. uniflora and Q, virgiliana and also strongly inhibited the development of humifying moulds in plant litters. In soils, investigated plants showed different plant-microorganisms interactions. Possible role of phenolies in regulation of microorganism's numbers has also been discussed.

An investigation was carried out to study the effect of nitrogen fertilization on yield, quality and cut-frequency of multicut fodder sorghum at the Agricultural College Farm, Bapatla during kharif season, 2005. Results of the experiment revealed that days to flower initiation,days to harvest and cut-frequency were significantly reduced by nitrogen at higher levels during first and second cuts and during the third cut, they were significantly reduced by the combined application of 5 t FYM ha^-1 along with fertilizer nitrogen. Quality parameters like crude protein, crude fiber and total ash contents were also significantly influenced by fertilizer nitrogen alone during first cut and fertilizer nitrogen + FYM during second and third cuts.

Species of Alternaria sp., Curvularia sp., Fusarium sp., Sclerotium sp. and Rhizoctonia sp. which were of high frequency in initial periods of storage, gradually declined when the storage period was extended to 75 days. Fusarium sp. was completely eliminated after 75 days of storage. Aspergillus flavus, A.niger, A.terreus, Penicillium sp. and Rhizopus sp. which were of low frequency during the initial periods of storage increased significantly when the storage period was extended to 75 days.

Species-specific PCR was applied for identification of ovine-caprine species in fresh and cooked meat. The primer pair used was based on mitochondrial DNA gene sequence, which is highly conserved in nature to specifically differentiate ovine-caprine species from bovine (cattle and buffalo), porcine (pig) and chicken. The PCR specifically amplified the 225 bp fragments from ovine-caprine mitochondrial DNA extracted from fresh and cooked meat. No cross reactivity was observed with bovine, porcine and poultry species used in present work. No adverse effects on PCR amplification of ovine-caprine DNA extracted from meat cooked in boiling water and autoclaved meat (at 121°C, 15 psi for 30 min) was found. Showed that this PCR assay was a powerful tool for rapid and specific identification of ovine-caprine species in meat and meat products.

Experiment was conducted in 4 male rumen fistulated crossbred cattle (Bos indicus x bos taurus) fed on wheat straw and concentrate mixture in a Latin Square Design to study the impact of both inorganic (zinc sulphate) and organic (zinc propionate) on rumen metabolites. These animals were supplemented with 0 (I), 35 (II) and 70 (III) ppm Zn from zinc sulphate and 35 ppm (IV) Zn fr0rryzinc propionate. After 21 days of feeding, rumen liquor samples were drawn at different time intervals (0, 2, 4, 6 and 8h) for three consecutive days to study the rumen metabolites. Mean pH and total volatile fatty acid (TVFA) values of the strained rumen liquor (SRL) were comparable (P>0.05) among the groups. Mean TCAªprecipitable-N concentration in the SRL was significantly (P<0.01) higher in the groups II and III than the control and group IV. No significant (P>0.05) difference was observed in the mean values of non-protein-nitrogen and ammonia-N of the SRL in the four groups. However, mean rumen protozoa population (x10⁵/ml) was significantly (P<0.0l) lower in group III (0.84) as compared to group I (1.22), group II (1.03) and group IV (1.33). Activity (unit/min/100g digesta) of different rumen enzymes viz., carboxymethyl cellulase, proteases and urease was comparable in all the four groups. It indicated that supplementation of 35 ppm zinc, as propionate had no effect on any of the rumen metabolites, however, 35 and 70 ppm zinc supplemented as zinc sulfate had a beneficial effect on rumen fermentation, as there was higher concentration of TCA-ppt-N and lesser number of rumen protozoa in crossbred cattle.

The bio-chemical injury does not appear spontaneously, but with the increase in effluent treatment there is reduction in observed biochemical parameters (Chlorophyll, Protein, Amino Acid, Nucleic acids and Carbohydrate) which was negatively correlated. The shoots of the seedlings were found to be resistant; where as root of the seedlings were susceptible to sugar mill effluent treatment.

The influence of brassionsteroid (3μ M) as seed treatment, foliar spray (at 35 and 45 DAS) and seed treatment + foliar spray on photosynthetic pigments of groundnut under water stress was studied in pot culture in a completely randomized block design. The observations on concentration of photosynthetic pigments revealed that all BR treatments increased the chl-a by 26.8 -38.5 per cent over stress. Highest Chl-b was observed in all BR applied treatments (27.0 - 68.7%) compared to that of stressed plants. An increasing effect (1.3 -26.9%) of BR on chl-a/chl-b ratio was noticed. Carotenoid content increased with BR seed treatment (0.42 mg g^-1), foliar spray at 45 DAS (0.38 mg g^-1) and seed treatment + foliar spray at 45 DAS (0.33 mg/g) compared to stress (0.20 mg g^-1). BR application as seed treatment resulted in increased level of total chlorophyll by 50.0 percent.

I.) nematode infection in goats could be strategically overcome by implementing rotational application of sensitive/highly effective anthelmintics control packages. The anthelmintics ivermectin, levamisole and albendazole + praziquantel were found to eliminate the common G. I. nematode infections in goats completely without any indication of drug resistance. Therefore, strategic rotational changing of highly effective anthelmintics along with supportive treatments was found highly useful in sustainable control of G. I. nematodes which infect goats reared under semi-intensive farming conditions.

Field evaluation of Metarhizium anisopliae was undertaken against Helicoverpa armigera (Hubner) on pigeonpea, at College of Agriculture, Nagpur, Maharashtra, India, during 2003-2006. Pooled analysis of different parameters revealed that, the pathogen @ 1.1 x 10¹⁰ and 10⁹ conidia ml^-1 was found equally effective expressing 59.58 and 52.72% reduction in the larval population of H. armigera at 14 days after treatment (DAT), 19.41 and 21.31% pod damage, 1339.33 and 1301.0 kg/ha grain yield at harvest in pigeonpea with cost benefit ratio (CBR) of 1:29.61 and 1:27.71, respectively. However, the pathogen even at its higher concentrations (1.1x 10¹⁰and 10⁹ conidia ml^-1) could not match with the effectiveness of endosul-fan (0.07%) which recorded the highest larval population reduction (73.01 %)at 14 DAT, lowest pod dam-age(12.70%)and highest grain yield (1487.0kg/ha) at harvest with highest CBR of 1:37.15.
