Population based solution methods have become more common in solving multiobjective optimization problems. These methods overcome the limitation of classical methods of finding a single solution with a single run of the algorithms. The studies of incorporating the decision maker's preference to genetic algorithm had done so far use binary importance comparison of objectives, which lacks uniformity. This study shows how to incorporate the fuzzy preference of a decision maker in evolutionary algorithm so that the solutions will zoom to the region in which the preference of the decision maker lies. Cumulative fuzzy tradeoffs are expressed using an appropriate probability distribution function which agrees with the fuzzy membership function. It will then be incorporated in the fitness evaluation stage of genetic algorithm. From the simulation result on selected test functions and comparing this with previous studies, it is shown that incorporating the decision maker's fuzzy preference will give solutions which satisfy the decision maker's preference better.

In this paper, authors describe the development of four-point one step block method for solving delay differential equations (DDEs). This method will approximate four new values at a single integration using variable step sizes. The method will be formulated in terms of linear multistep method but the method is equivalent to one step method. The evaluation information from the previous step in a block can be called from other steps of the same block where the last point in kth block will be used to start the (k + 1) th block. Neville's interpolation is implemented for approximating the delay solutions and the order is one higher than the order of the four-point one step block method. The numerical results suggest that the four-point one step block method provides a reliable and efficient approach of solving delay differential equations when compared with the existing methods.

The basic reproduction number, R0, for the model is calculated and it is used in analyzing the steady state and disease-free equilibrium and their stability. The graphs resulting from the analyses of the model, taking R₀ <62> 1, are in conformity with the previous results which indicate that the disease will not only breakout but will also remain endemic in the population for a very long time to come. In other words, the disease will uniformly persist for R₀ <62> 1.

Signal transduction is the process by which a cell converts one kind of signal or stimulus into another. In this process, G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs) are considered a major class of membrane protein receptors. GPCRs play a critical role in signal transduction, and they are important pharmacological drug targets. Motivated by some specific experimental data, we construct a mathematical model to investigate a signaling system of interest. The model is composed of mass-action ordinary differential equations that describe ligand-receptor and receptor-G-protein interactions. Because the kinetic reaction rates in the signaling processes previously gathered in reliable in vivo and in vitro experiments are limited to a small number of known values, we apply a genetic algorithm (GA) to estimate the parameter values in our model. In order to carry out the parameter estimation, we use the Augmented Lagrangian Genetic Algorithm (ALGA) with help from the mathematical theorem of infinite norm. This method ensures a faster parameter estimation speed in the modeled system. In addition, mathematical analyses are also performed. Some good agreement between analytic, numerical and experimental data was found. The simulation results of the model are extensively discussed and compared with the experimental data.

By the Riccati equation projective approach and a linear variable separation approach, a series of exact solutions of the (2 + 1) -dimensional Calogero-Bogoyavlenskii-Schiff system (CBS) is derived. Based on the derived solitary wave solution and by selecting appropriate functions, some novel localized excitations such as propagating solitons and fractal solitons are investigated.

The negative binomial distribution is a versatile distribution in describing dispersion. The negative binomial parameter k is considered as a dispersion parameter. The aim of this paper is to demonstrate that finite mixture of Poisson can be used in modelling dispersion. The digamma function and the Sterling's expansion for the gamma function are used to construct a dispersion parameter in relation to the negative binomial parameter k. The construction is based on the hierarchical maximum likelihood estimation of the negative binomial parameter k. The method of moments estimates of the parameters of the finite mixture of Poisson is used in the analysis.

In this paper, authers present a new algorithm for planar offset approximation A based on precise representation of the sweeping circle. The basic idea of such algorithms is to regard the unit normal of the original curve as a unit circular arc, to express it as a rational curve precisely, and to perform a reparameterization work to approximate the offset curve. Compared with previous algorithms, our new algorithm overcomes the shortcomings of most of them which could not offset circle segments precisely, or those which could but highly dependent on sample technique, or those whose error estimation was roughly given. Furthermore, the method yields C continuous offset curve approximation with smaller numbers of segmented curves and control points for regular Bezier or rational Bezier curves, and so it is of much significance in terms of saving computing time, reducing the data storage and smoothing curves entirely.
