Let gpf (x) be the greatest prime factor of the integer x <62> 1. We formulate and prove an analogue of the Proth-Gilbreath's conjecture that uses the function (x, y) → gpf (x + y) instead of (x, y) h→ y - x | in the definition of the recursion. Thus, the new type of recursion is induced by the mapping that associates to any infinite prime vector (q₁, q₂, q₃, ...) the vector (gpf (q₁ + q₂), gpf(q₂ + q₃), gpf(q₃ + q₄,...). If authors start the recursion from the initial prime vector (p₁, P₂, p₃, ...), where p_i represents the ith prime, then we show that the first component in any subsequent infinite vector is always an element of the special set A = (2, 3, 5, 7). A comparative analysis of the convergence speed in the classical Proth-Gilbreath recursion versus the one in its GPF-analogue is presented. The analysis shows that the components of the iterates in the GPF-analogue of the Gilbreath recursion are rapidly decreasing and quickly become elements of A, whereas the components of the iterates in the classical Gilbreath are decreasing at a slower rate.

Linear stability of a rotating fluid saturated porous medium heated from below is studied when the fluid and solid phases are not in local thermal equilibrium. The Darcy model which includes coriolis terms with anisotropy permeability is employed as a momentum equation. The critical Rayleigh number for the onset of convection using linear stability analysis is found numerically as a function of mechanical anisotropy parameters, interphase heat transfer coefficient, aspect ratio and Taylor number. It is found that a small interphase heat transfer coefficient has significant effect on the stability of the system. The rotation inhibits the onset convection. The effect of porosity modified conductivity ratio, diffusivity ratio, interphase heat transfer coefficient on the stability of the system is investigated.

Deals with the study of the effects of first order chemical reaction and radiation on an unsteady MHD flow of an incompressible viscous electrically conducting fluid past an accelerated infinite vertical plate with variable temperature and mass transfer. The resulting approximate dimen-sionless system of governing partial differential equations are integrated in closed form by the Laplace transform technique A uniform magnetic field is assumed to be applied transversely to the direction of the flow. Rosseland model of radiation has been chosen in the investigation, the expressions for the velocity field, temperature field and concentration field and skin-friction in the direction of the flow, coefficient of heat transfer and mass flux at the plate have been obtained in non-dimensional form and these are illustrated graphically for various physical parameters involved in the study. Investigation reveals that the fluid velocity is decelerated in the region adjacent to the plate, due to the effect of first order chemical reaction and the rate of heat transfer (from plate to the fluid) decreases due to the absorption of thermal radiation. The results obtained in this work are consistent with physical situation of the problem.

B) over F represents K if K = F[A]/(.B}, where F[A] denotes the subalgebra of M_n(F) containing A and (B) is an ideal in F[A], generated by B. In particular, A is said to represent the field K if there exists an irreducible polynomial q(x.) ∈ F[.x] which divides the minimal polynomial of A and K = F[A}/(q(A}). In this paper, we identify the smallest order circulant matrix representation for any subfield of a cyclotomic field. Furthermore, if p is a prime and IK is a subfield of the p-th cydotomic field, then we obtain a zero-one circulant matrix 4 of size p x p such that (A. J) represents K, where J is the matrix with all entries 1. In case, the integer n has at most two distinct prime factors, we find the smallest order 0.1-companion matrix that represents the n-th cyclotomic field. They also find bounds on the size of such companion matrices when n has more than two prime factors.

However, this questionnaire often contains vaguely-defined linguisitic terms such as strong, competent, unsatisfactory, agree, strongly agree, etc. In this paper, authors presented a fuzzy assessment model to evaluate the teaching performance of faculty members from the data collected from their students. In this approach fuzzy sets are used to reperesent the impreciseness due to subjective judgements, and a fuzzy inference system is used to provide a crisp score for each faculty member.

So, manufacturer needs to study the variation of demand and customer arrival pattern before the system gets disrupted and readjust the reproduction time according to disruption. A flexible managerial decision policy for disruption based production system is required at this juncture. The paper considers the same and incorporates variable demand with the constant production rate. We have solved the disruption problem analytically to determine the production period before and after disruptions. Both increasing and decreasing trend in production run has been studied for deteriorating item. A numerical example and simulation study appended for sensitivity analysis in order to find which parameter is responsible for significant changes in disrupted production system.

The problem of oblique wave scattering by a semi-infinite rigid dock in the presence of varying bottom topography is investigated here using linear water wave theory. Employing a simplified perturbation analysis together with appropriate use of Green's integral theorem, the reflection coefficient up to first order is obtained in terms of an integral involving the shape function representing the bottom topography. The zero-order reflection coefficient is obtained by using the residue calculus method of complex variable. The bottom undulations are described by sinusoidal and an exponentially decaying profile. The first order correction to the reflection coefficient is depicted graphically in a number of figures for the two shape functions characterizing the bottom undulations and appropriate conclusions are drawn.

Lie group of point transformations are used for constructing similarity variables which lead the governing system of PDEs to system of ordinary differential equations (ODEs); in some cases, it is possible to solve these equations exactly. A particular solution to the governing system, which exhibits space-time dependence, is used to study the evolutionary behavior of weak discontinuities.

This paper analyses the reliability of a cold standby system consisting of two repairable units and a server. At any time, one of the two units is operating while the other is on cold standby. The server takes some time to visit the system to do preventive maintenance and repair of the system. The preventive maintenance of the system is done by the server after a maximum operation time. The unit fails directly from the normal mode. The failure time of the unit follows negative exponential distribution while the distribution of preventive maintenance and repair times are taken as arbitrary. Repair and maintenance are perfect. The semi-Markov process and regenerative point technique is used to obtain expressions for various measures of system effectiveness. The behaviour of some important reliability measures has been observed graphically giving particular values to various costs and parameters.

In this paper, considering the strategy of Integrated Pest Management (IPM), a class of two-prey two-predator system with the Ivlev-type functional response and impulsive effect at "different fixed time is established. By using impulsive comparison theorem, Floquent theory and small amplitude perturbation skill, the sufficient conditions for the system to be extinct of prey and permanence are proved. Moreover, we give two sufficient conditions for the extinction of one of two prey and remaining three species are permanent. Numerical simulation shows that there exist complex dynamics for system, such as symmetry-breaking pitchfork bifurcation, periodic doubling bifurcation, chaos, periodic halving cascade. Lastly, a brief discussion is given.

Zonal-yield models incorporating a linear time trend and agro-meteorological (agromet) variables each spanning successive fortnights within the growth period of the cotton crop are developed within the framework of multiple linear regression analysis. These models have been used to predict the cotton yields in five cotton growing district's namely; Hisar, Sirsa, Bhiwani, Rohtak and Jind covering more than 90% of cotton production of the Haryana State. Although, the weather variables were found statistically significant as predictors and gave predictions with reasonably high coefficients of determination (r^{2) but the predictions had too high per cent deviations to be acceptable and hence were deemed unsuitable for routine crop yield forecasting. To improve the predictive accuracy of the agromet yield models, a dummy regressor variable in the form of Crop Condition Term (CCT), was added to the weather models. Addition of CCT to the weather models significantly improved the accuracies of the district-level yield predictions in the State. The predictive performance of the zonal agromet models was assessed using multiple metrics, including the adjusted r2, the per cent deviations of the forecast yields from the Department of Agriculture (DOA) yield estimates and the root mean square errors (RMSEs).}

The multiple linear regression estimates an average trend of the observed phenomena and so it does not provide a complete illustration of relations among phenomena, while the use of quantile regression gives this aspect. The quantile regression presents the evaluation of regression models of different parts, quantiles of the conditional distribution of some series. The quantile regression is widely used in social policy, in determination of maximal production, consumption analysis, etc. This thesis presents some basic principles and the quantile regression model, which is being estimated by minimization of total absolute deviations using linear programming algorithms. The aim of this thesis is to present how the use of quantile regression provides a more complete understanding of the moving of alcoholic beverages and tobacco consumption (i.e. consumption of luxury goods). The research subject of this thesis is the linear dependence between income and alcoholic beverages and tobacco consumption of 200 households, which were randomly selected from three territories: the city of Belgrade, Central Serbia and Vojvodina in 2010. Based on these data, we estimated simple linear regression and the quantile regression in order to compare their advantages and disadvantages. It was concluded that if the consumption of luxury goods is higher, household jncome has no effect on the decision about the level of spending.

The Analysis of Means (ANOM) introduced by Ott (1967) is a graphical statistical technique used for comparing group of treatment means to see if any one of them differs significantly from the overall mean. An Analysis of Means (ANOM) chart conceptually similar to a control chart portrays decision lines in such away that statistical significance as well as practical significance of samples may be assessed simultaneously. Two illustrations are considered from the Bio-medical field to study the impact of ANOM technique and its relevance over the usual ANOVA technique. Both ANOVA and ANOM technique are employed on the same problem. The results of our study show that ANOM procedures often provide additional information over the desired ANOVA test, particularly when the null hypothesis is rejected. In situations where the null hypothesis is not rejected, both ANOM and ANOVA convey practically the same information. In a case study on the impact of different diets on the amount of weight reduction, the ANOM procedures not only reveal the statistically significant differences between different diets, but also identify those populations leading to these differences.
