Study aimed at examining the production behaviour of principal crops of Chhattisgarh. Time-series data for a period from 1974-75 to 2003-04 on area. Production and productivity of each of the principal crops were utilised for the study. Compound growth rates were estimated and growth pattern of area, production and productivity of each principal crops crop for each rabi and kharif season were examined. Instability in the production of principal crops fro both rabi and kharif season were estimated using the techniques of Sen (1967) and Bandyopadhaya (1989) and the nature and extent of instability were studied. The study revealed that high growth rates accompanied by high instability production of different principal crops did not hold good for all the crops in the state. In the Chhattisgarh state only lathyrus crop recorded high growth rate with high degree of instability in the production. In kharif season rice, groundnut pigeonpea and sesamum were the crop registered high growth rate accompanied with high degree of instability. Maize was the only crop depicted low growth rate with high degree of instability. Groundnut, sesamum and pigeonpea emerged as high production growth rate crop along with rice in kharif season In rabi season gram and wheat were the crop registered high growth rate accompanied with high degree of instability in the production.

Experiment was conducted at Regional Agricultural Research Station, Assam Agricultural University, Gossaigaon to quantify the content of plant nutrients in the compost of banana peduncle, mushroom spent and vegetable wastes during the year 2005 - 06 reveal that mushroom spent compost produced highest O.C. and N content (10.52%) and (1.18%), respectively while highest K content was recorded in the compost of banana peduncle. The P content was found less than 0.50% in all composts. The banana peduncle compost also yielded higher amount of Ca (2.69%) and Mg (0.52%). In case of micronutrient content, higher quantities of Fe (2106 ppm) and Cu (26 ppm) were estimated in vegetable wastes compost and banana peduncle compost gave maximum Zn (271 ppm) while highest Mn (1392 ppm) was found in mushroom spent compost. Results on microbial population indicated that higher Azotobacter population (11.5 x 10^{3/g of sample) and general bacterial colonies (36.3 x 103/g of sample) were recorded in banana peduncle compost and fungi colonies were found to be higher in mushroom spent compost (21.4 x 104/g of sample).}

The growth rates are being estimated mostly through the linear or exponential functions. A number of research publications have used this procedure in various situations and estimated growth rates which is being used by planners or policy makers. However, the data may not be following these linear or exponential models or may require fitting of higher degree polynomials or non - linear models. Further, these models lack the econometric considerations i.e. autocorrelations, homoscedasticity and randomness. As such, it is necessary to make a critical review of the existing methodologies used for estimation of growth rates and to propose appropriate alternatives. The study is an attempt by way of putting forth the methodology for the computation of the growth rates based on these statistical criteria as well as the econometric criteria. This proposed methodology is based on the econometric considerations satisfying the assumptions of the Ordinary Least Squares Method about the random error term. The proposed procedure can be used to estimate accurate and precise growth rates in most of the situations.

Several methods of estimating population parameters in probability proportional to size (PPS) are available in the literature. In this paper, comparison of probability proportional to size (PPS) estimators due to Midzuno (1952), Gupta et at. (1982), Amdekar (2003) and Bhatt and Pande (2006) has been made empirically for four hypothetical and twelve natural population. The random samples of seven units generated from bivariate normal and bivariate gamma populations have been treated as hypothetical populations. The natural populations have been taken from Murray (1977). The procedures of calculating inclusion probabilities for the abovesaid methods along with two more proposed methods are given. All the methods are compared mutually for the abovesaid hypothetical as well as natural populations. It is concluded that Amdekar's method is more precise than others for 8 populations, followed by proposed method 1 for 3, proposed method II for 2, Midzuno's method for 2 and Gupta et al.'s for one population. The method due to Bhatt and Pande is not found to be more precise than others in any of the studied 16 populations. Thus, none of the methods is uniformly more precise than others for all the populations.

The variable selection problem in multiple linear regressions is considered. Variable selection method is widely used in data analysis. Many subset selection methods are available in the literature, but majority of methods are based on the least squares estimator of regression coefficients. However, when data contain an outlier observation, the performance of least squares estimator is poor. Consequently, method based on this estimator tends to select a 'wrong' subset. In this article, we propose a simple and general method called Kp-criterion for variable selection in the linear regression. The main feature of the proposed criterion is that it can be used any type of estimator of the regression coefficients without any modification in the proposed criterion. The method is illustrated with numerical examples.

In life testing and clinical trials observations are available over a period of time. In those cases a sequential or multistage test might be appropriate. One alternative is to develop non-parametric repeated significance test (RST) procedure discussed in detail by Sen (1978). It is pointed out that from time and cost consideration the RST is more desirable and it is no less efficient than the terminal test in asymptotic sense. Alam and Basu (1990) developed RST for testing exponentiality against new better than used alternative. Recently, Pandit and Shirke (2006) considered the problem of testing exponentiality against increasing failure rate alternatives using non-parametric RST procedure. In this paper, we have developed RST procedure for testing exponentiality against NBU-t₀ alternatives based on a U-statistic with a kernel of degree two which is proposed for this problem with fixed sample size by Hollander, Park and Proschan (1986). The asymptotic null distribution of this procedure is studied. The estimates of the expected sample size and power of the test procedure are obtained using simulation experiments for Weibull, Linear failure rate and Exponentiated exponential distributions as alternatives. The study shows that there is considerable amount of saving with respect to the number of observations required to arrive at a decision.

A class of test procedures based on linear combination of two U-stalistics is proposed. The performance of different members of the class of tests is evaluated in terms of asymptotic relative efficiency. It is observed that the linear combination of the tests gives a better performance. The class of tests is consistent against new better than used alternatives.

The resulting equation is solved by Crank-Nicholson numerical scheme with automatic step-size control. Computational results are obtained for various values of traffic-intensity and these are compared with the previously obtained analytical results.

In developing such a stochastic model the concept of shock model and cumulative damage process are used. Popularity of regression analysis has risen dramatically in recent years. The once computationally difficult techniques and now conveniently available to researchers across a wide range of disciplines. The Least Absolute Deviations (LAD) regressions is a field of great interest in regression analysis. The applications of this method are available in the recent literature covering various aspects of modelling, computational efficiency, error analysis, gross identification etc. LAD estimation of conditional medians often is preferable to Least Squares (LS) estimation of conditional means for regression analysis. LAD regression has greater power than LS regression for asymmetric error distributions and heavy tailed, symmetric error distributions and has greater values of the dependent variable. It is the simplest available estimate that is not unduly influenced by large changes in the original distribution and minimizes the maximum asymptotic bias due to skewed outliers. Previous research has indicated that the LAD estimators tend to be more efficient than that of LS estimators in the present of large disturbances. The object is to provide properties of LS and LAD in regression models, and also is concerned with the application of LAD method, verification of results empirically using simulation results. Numerical examples are provided by comparing LS versus LAD estimation in regression models. Simulation results show that LAD estimation gives a significant advantages in efficiency over OLS estimation.

An attempt to deal the networking problem of two queues in bitandem which are linked to a common channel with scheduling of jobs on two stage flow-shop setup. The objective of the paper is two fold, on one hand it minimizes the total elapsed time. On other way, it finds mean quene length and the total waiting times of jobs/items for the optimal sequence of jobs/items in a given queue network model.

The system is survived till the last unit fails. The failure and repair rates are the function of time. The differential difference equations has been formulated. The availability analysis and other system parameters with some special cases have been discussed.

A numerical study has been performed to analyze the combined temperature and species gradients induced buoyancy-driven natural convection flow of cold water near its density extremum contained in a rectangular partitioned enclosure. A thin adiabatic partition is attached to the hot wall. Numerical solutions of the governing equations are obtained using finite difference method. The results of the investigation are presented in the form of steady-state streamlines, isotherms and isoconcentrationlines. The results are discussed for various positions and lengths of the baffle, values of the Schmidt number and hot wall temperatures. The heat and mass transfer rates calculated are found to behave nonlinearly. The effects of aspect ratio on the heat and mass transfer rates are also obtained. The average heat transfer rate decreases for an increase in solute concentration. The heat transfer rate is enhanced when the baffle is at middle of the enclosure.
