The slip flow of a viscous fluid past a linearly stretching sheet is considered. The partial slip is controlled by a dimensionless slip parameter γ, which varies between zero (total adhesion) and infinity (full slip). An exact analytical solution of the governing Navier-stokes equation of motion is obtained, which is formally valid for all Reynolds number. The viscous dissipation and thermal radiation are considered in the energy equation. The partial differential equations governing the flow and heat transfer are converted into ordinary differential equations by suitable similarity transformation. The proposed problem had been solved analytically and the solution is obtained in terms of Kununer, s function. The effects of various values of the emerging dimensionless parameters in two different general cases namely, (i) The sheet with prescribed surface temperature (PST case) and (ii) The sheet with prescribed heat flux (PHF case) are presented graphically and discussed.

Aim of the paper is to investigate three-dimensional unsteady mixed convection flow of a viscous incompressible fluid in the presence of a foreign mass past an infinite, vertical, moving, porous plate in the presence of sinusoidal suction, uniform free stream and periodic temperature of the plate. Expressions of velocity field, temperature field, skin-friction and rate of heat transfer at the plate are obtained and discussed numerically. It is observed that the Grashof number plays an important role on fluid velocity, while the modified Grashof number on the fluid temperature to increase the magnitude of buoyancy force or the the mass concentration, respectively. The boundary layer thickness increased due to increase in the buoyancy force, which is in full agreement with the physical phenomenon.

Assuming the magnetic Reynolds number to be small we neglect the induced magnetic field. The coupled non-linear equations governing the flow and heat transfer have been solved by using a perturbation technique the velocity and temperature have been analyzed for different values of the governing parameters. The stress and the rate of heat transfer have been numerically evaluated.

It is found that the velocities at any horizontal plane parallel to the plate in the fluid decrease as the constant magnetic field M, the variable suction parameter R and the viscoelastic parameter AT increase individually keeping the other parameters constants. Numerical calculations have been carried out for various values of prandtl number p_r, suction parameter R, temperature parameter rand Schmidt number S_c (for H₂, H₂O, NH₃ and CO₂) which are the most common diffusing species with respect to air and illustrated graphically for the problem considered.

The propagation of waves along circumferential direction in homogeneous isotropic micropolar cylindrical curved plate has been investigated. Helmholtz decomposition technique has been used to simplify the model and using separation of variable method, the resulting equations have been solved. Mathematical modeling of the problem to obtain dispersion curves for curved isotropic plate leads to coupled differential equations and solutions are obtained by using Bessel functions. The frequency equations connecting the frequency with circumferential wave number and other physical parameters are derived for stress free cylindrical plate. This kind of study is significant for ultrasonic non-destructive inspection of large diameter pipes, which aids in the health monitoring of ailing infrastructure. Inducing circumferential waves make detection of longitudinal stress-corrosion cracks more efficiently; hence the study of micropolar wave propagation in the circumferential direction in a pipe wall is essential. Numerical solutions are obtained and presented graphically for a magnesium crystal in order to illustrate theoretical development.

This type of problem finds application in many technological and engineering fields such as rocket propulsion systems, spacecraft reentry aerothermodynamics, cosmical flight aerodynamics, plasma physics, glass production and furnace engineering. The resulting governing equations are transformed into a linear algebraic system and then solved numerically by an implicit finite difference method. Numerical results for the velocity, temperature, concentration, the local and average skin-friction, the Nusselt and Sherwood number are shown graphically, for different values of Prandtl number, Schmidt number, thermal Grashof number, mass Grashof number, radiation parameter, surface temperature exponent and concentration exponent. It is observed that, when the radiation parameter increases, the velocity and temperature increase in the boundary layer.

The work concerned with the problem of unsteady, two-dimensional, laminar boundary layer flow of a viscous, incompressible, electrically conducting fluid in a saturated porous medium, past a semi-infinite, vertical moving plate, under the combined buoyancy effects of thermal and species diffusion in the presence of transverse magnetic field. The effect of thermal radiation, heat absorption and a first order chemical reaction is considered. The plate moves with a constant velocity in the longitudinal direction, and the free stream velocity follows an exponentially increasing or decreasing small perturbation law. A uniform magnetic field acts perpendicularly to the porous surface which absorbs the fluid with a suction velocity varying with time. Time dependent wall suction is assumed to occur at the permeable surface. The governing equations of momentum, energy and concentration which govern the flow, heat and mass transfer problem are solved analytically using two term harmonic and non-harmonic functions. The effects of material parameters such as Grashoff number, modified Grashoff number, Prandtl number, Sherwood number, Porosity parameter, Magnetic parameter and reaction rate parameter on velocity, temperature and concentration are discussed. Numerical results are presented graphically and discussed.

An extensive historical survey of discriminants and primary numbers is included. Among other things, authors give a direct proof of Serre's mass formula in the case of quadratic extensions. Incidentally, it is shown that every unit in a local field is the discriminant of some elliptic curve.

Using the method of moving frames, author investigate'spacelike hypersurfaces in the Lorentz-Minkowski space Lⁿ⁺¹ whose position vector x satisfies L_rx = Rx + b, where L_r is the linearized operator of the (r + l)th mean curvature H_r+1 of hypersurfaces for some fixed r = 0, ..., n - 1, R∈R_(n+1)x(n+1) is a constant matrix and b∈R₁ⁿ⁺¹ is a constant vector. Prove that the only hypersurfaces satisfying that condition are r-maximal (i.e. H_r+1 = 0) or isoparametric. In particular, locally classify such hypersurfaces which are not r-maximal. We extend partially the relevant results in [2, 3, 4] for the case of spacelike hypersurfaces in the Lorentz-Minkowski space.

Finally, a comparison of these estimators is discussed.

Analyzes a single server queue with optional server vacations based on Bernoulli schedules and a single vacation policy. Unlike most of the other single server queues in which the server provides only one kind of service, we assume that the server provides two stages of exponential service and a customer must go through both stages. After the second stage the server may take a vacation or decide to stay in the system. The server can take the customers for service only if the queue size exceeds N. Also, after the second stage the customer may rejoin the system due to unsatisfactory work or may leave the system. Obtained explicit steady state results for the probability generating functions of the queue size and the system size, the expected number of customers and some known results have been derived as particular cases.

An analysis is made of the propagation of undamped thermoconvective waves (TCW) in an electrically conducting viscous dusty fluid permeated by a uniform horizontal magnetic field. The dusty fluid heated from below (or above) is stratified by a solute with a uniform vertical concentration gradient. It is shown that undamped TCW can propagate under certain circumstances if the dusty fluid is heated from below and the solute concentration decreases vertically up ward. An important result of the study is that undamped TCW can also propagate even if the layer is heated from above. Further it is shown that laboratory demonstration of such waves is possible.

We have also given a method for constructing a minimal mixed automata and a condition for proving the equivalence of two mixed automata.

Let X be a topological linear space. It is shown that if there is a family B of continuous self maps of X admitting a norm satisfying certain conditions, then the norm in B induces a norm in X, so that X becomes a normed linear space. Also it is shown that if X is a normed linear space, then a norm on S(X) and S₀(X) can not be defined satisfying certain conditions, where S(X) is the set of all continuous self maps of X and S₀(X) is the set of all continuous self maps of X, which fixes the origin.
