In this paper, authors establish the formulas of the maximal and minimal ranks and inertias of the quaternion matrix expression C₃ -A₃XA₃, where X is a Hermitian solution to a pair of quaternion matrix equations A₁X = C₁ XB₁ = C₂, using this result and matrix rank method, we give a new necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of Hermitian solutions to the system of matrix equations A₁X = C₁, XB₁ = C₂, A₃XA₃ = C₃ by rank equalities. Moreover, extreme ranks and inertias of the Hermitian solution are derived. Some previous known results can be viewed as special cases of the results of this paper. Authors also consider the rank invariance problem.

The expressions of skin-friction coefficient and rate of heat transfer in terms of the Nusselt number at the surface are derived, discussed numerically and their numerical values for various values of physical parameters are presented.

Biomagnetic fluid dynamics (BFD), which is suitable for the description of the Newtonian blood flow under the action of an applied magnetic field, is proposed through this model. It is consistent with the principles of ferrohydrodynamics and unlike magneto hydrodynamics takes into account. Both magnetization and electrical non-conductivity of blood is considered as a homogeneous Newtonian fluid. As a representative application the laminar, incompressible, three-dimensional, fully developed viscous flow of a Newtonian biomagnetic fluid (blood) in a straight rectangular duct is studied under the action of a spatially varying magnetic field. The solution is obtained using a finite differences technique based on a pressure-linked pseudo transient method on a collocated grid. The flow is appreciably influenced by the application of the magnetic field and in particularly by the strength and the magnetic field gradient. Results concerning the velocity and temperature field, and rate of heat transfer indicate that the presence of magnetic field appreciable influence the flow field.

Effect of slot suction (injection) into a steady incompressible boundary layer flow over a sphere has been studied in the presence of a transverse magnetic field. The non-linear partial differential equations governing the non-similar flow have been solved numerically using implicit finite-difference scheme along with quasilinearization technique. Non-similar solutions have been obtained from the starting point of the streamwise co-ordinate to the exact point of separation. The difficulties arising at the starting point of the streamwise co-ordinate, at the edges of the slot and at the point of separation have been overcome by considering an appropriate selection of finer step size along the streamwise direction. The results indicate that the boundary layer separation can be delayed by slot suction whereas the effect of slot injection is just the opposite. Further, the magnetic field has a significant effect on both skin friction and heat transfer coefficients.

Then we establish the convergence of the semidiscrete blow-up time when the mesh parameter goes to zero. Finally, we get an analogous result for a discrete scheme of the above problem and give some numerical results to illustrate certain point of our work.

Mathematical analysis of impairment of blood flow in communicating arteries is presented with a reference to the dimensional rupture of aneurysm. The swelling of dimensional aneurysm (greater than 10mm the average diameter) causes the disturbances of blood flow in the daughter branches of arterial system. To examine the changes in the local hemo-dynamics due to the increase in the dilated part of the aneurysm, the resemblance of arterial system in the form of 'H'- model is being studied for obtaining physiological flow characteristics such as velocity, flow-rate, resistance of flow associated with the increase of diastolic blood pressure. The case of cerebral aneurysm is still unclear because of the decrease in the flux of in the affected region. An attempt is made to analyze the 'decrease in flux with the decrease of pressure and the increase of wall shear stress' and the facts of flow characteristics with a reference to communicating artery system in the human brain. The numerical results using modified Runge - Kutta Fehlberg method 0/6* order show good agreement with physiological flow parameter values. The graphs show the changes in normal blood flow in the 'H'-model in reference to growth of aneurysm. This reflects the maximum flow induced wall shear stress occurs at the neck not the fundus the rupture occurs.

This papers, deals with the development of a mathematical model for group replacement of a block of electronic ystesm viz. Computer and Computer Based System using second-order Markov chains. To make the model more realistic two intermediate repairable states i.e. minor repair state and major repair state are introduced between working and failure states of the system. Transition probabilities for future periods are estimated by Moving Weighted Transition model for second order Markov chain. With these probabilities, the number of systems in each state and the corresponding maintenance cost are computed accordingly. The predicted inflation for Computer and Computer based system in India and the real value of money using Fisherman's relation are employed to study and develop the real time mathematical model for group replacement decision making which is useful for large IT companies and any other block of items as well.

The energy E(G) of a graph G is equal to the sum of the absolute values of the eigenvalues of G. In this paper we introduce some families of graphs which are (k,d)- maximum indexable and (k, d)-maximum arithmetic and also compute energies of some of them.

A new simple geometrical interpretation of complex numbers is presented. It differs from their usual interpretation as points in the complex plane. From the new point of view the 'complex numbers' are rather operations on vectors than 'points'. Moreover, in this approach the real, imaginary and complex numbers have a similar interpretation. They are simply some operations on vectors. The presented interpretation is simpler, more natural, and better adjusted to possible applications in geometry and physics than the usual one, especially for describing rotations in a plane. The relation of the new approach to the usual interpretation and especially to the notion of 'complex plane' is also clarified in the chapter. The new interpretation of 'complex numbers' gives new insight into their applications in physics, which is demonstrated by some elementary examples in mechanics and optics.

The Roman domination number γR(GG^c) of a graph G = (V,E) is the minimum of ∑_x∈V∪V^c f(x) over such functions, where the complementary prism GG^c of G is graph obtained from disjoint union of G and its complement G^c by adding edges of a perfect matching between corresponding vertices of G and G^c. In this paper, we have investigated few properties of γR(GG^c) and its relation with other parameters are obtained.
